The nursing profession is one of the fastest growing fields in the health care industry today in USA, and even all over the world. Nursing practice has tremendously changed in the last decade and as a result, the need for changes in nursing practice is becoming more and more important. According to the institute of medicine report, nursing is undergoing fundamental changes within the underlying operations of the field .A new regulatory environment coupled with increase watch of the profession will dramatically affect the nursing profession. The iom report discusses so many aspects of nursing, like nursing practice (transforming practice), nursing education (transforming education) ,The role of nursing as a leader (transforming leadership), and work force planning . These recommendations outline in this report focus on the critical intersection between the health needs of the different populations across the life span and the actions of nursing workforce with the intent to improve the health of the u s population through nurse’s effort.

Nursing practice; nurses should practice to full extent of their education and training, there should be no limitation and restrict against their scope of practice within their educational bracket. Nursing education; nurses should achieved higher levels of education and training through an improved education system that promote continuous academic progress. In U.S today major change in health care system and the environmental practice of the nurse requires change in their education before and after receiving license. Improved education system is important to ensure, current and future generations of nurses are able to deliver quality and safe care to the patient.

Nurses should be full partners, physician and other health professionals, in revising health care in united state. Nursing profession should have a strong leader throughout the system, from the bedside to the boardroom for this vision of a transformed healthcare system to be realized . Nurse leader must be full partners with the physicians and the other health professionals and must be responsible for their own contributions to delivering high-quality care while working in collaboratively with leaders from other health professions.  Finally, effective workforce planning and policy makes require better data collection and an improved information infrastructure.  In order to achieve this transformation of heath care system and practice environment, there is need for balance skills among the physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals. In addition, data collection and analysis across the health profession is necessary because of the overlap in scopes of practice for primary care provider, like the physicians, physician assistant, nurse and nurse practitioner.

The IOM report influence on nursing education and nursing leadership, because of this report there is need for expansion in the roles for higher levels of education and improved system of education required for nurses to meet the diverse needs of the patient and provide better care. Improving the education system and achieving a more educated work force increase number of nurses having baccalaureate degrees, that means a traditional registered nurse to bachelor of nursing program or a traditional 4year bachelor of nursing program or program that will allows smooth transition from associate in diploma  nursing to bachelor of nursing. . Total examination of the nursing education and training is very necessary to re-gain the roles of nurses in a reformed healthcare system. Also nurses taking up leadership positions along with physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide high quality healthcare.

It is very important that nurse’s role and education evolve to meet the needs of aging and increasingly diverse population. With higher education, advancement and nursing practice nurse stand at better position to give quality and safe care to patient. Nurses achieve higher levels of education and training through an improved education system that promotes seamless academic progression.” (Institute of Medicine, 2010, p. 163) As the IOM reports, changes in the health care system are requiring major changes in the nursing education requirements to meet the immediate needs of our patients. So with this nurse are better equipped with what it takes to meet the need of the aging and increasing diverse population.

The significance of professional development and its relevance in caring for diverse population, are it enhance our understanding of the different kinds of diseases and their mode of transmission and the best treatment option that is available for the cure , also it provide a better opportunities and improvement of quality life. It give a broad knowledge of diseases, it prevention, treatment and cure.

With the advancement in health system today, nurses can effectively manage the care of patient with advance technology like the CAT scan, MRI to detect and diagnose patient diseases. Also with the advancement in education and nursing practice in nursing, nurse is able to handle diversified cases of illness by providing quality and safe treatment with evidence-base practice. The report of IOM of 2010 has also help in effective management of patient care through the recommendation of  nurse practice , higher education ,nursing leadership and full partners with physician and other heath care professional ,and the effective workforce planning .
