Essay: Difference between the power the state and national governments hold

There should be an extreme difference between the power the state and national governments hold. I believe that the government is easily undermined by an excess of democracy. As Federalists, we believe in a strong central government. The government is an important agent for change and will help bring prosperity to all Americans. We believe that the national government will be safe in the hands of a small governing elite. Their leadership will bring stability to the nation and convey strength and dignity to the new republic. Once we elect our officials into office, we should leave the important decisions to them because they know what’s best. Our desire is to fight for a new and more effective constitution. By ratifying the United States Constitution, we will divide power between the state government and national government reducing the chance of tyranny in our country. There will be a three-part government in place to protect the rights of the people through sections of different but equal power. There will be checks and balances in place to ensure no one branch is abusing their power over the people.
Our political party wants a fiscally sound government. Over the past few years, our government has accumulated an extremely large amount of debt at just under $78 million dollars. This needs to be fixed immediately in order to gain public credit and create a respect for the new government. We believe that the government should take over the debts of the states and repay the national debt at full value rather than at its decreased market value. If we pay in full we give the people a message that the government can meet its obligations. Taking over the state debt would create more loyalty to the national government and allow states to eliminate the majority of their taxes. We also fully support Hamilton’s idea for a national bank. There are many European countries that have national banks, and we would be smart to follow. A bank in America would increase the flow of money through the country and it would help our government to collect taxes and negotiate loans. I believe and advocate for fiscal programs that are modeled after a strong central bank. The government should source wealthy manufacturers and merchants who will promote business and production. If we put emphasis on banking and commerce we will be able to lay a great foundation for our economy in this nation.
We admire the French peoples attempt to create their own republic, but in the wake of the Reign of Terror, we question the liberty of their efforts. We believe they have gone too far and fear they may destroy our experiment. As the French begin a war against Great Britain we strongly support maintaining diplomatic harmony with Great Britain. We support the ratification of Jay’s Treaty. The treaty will help us solve the outstanding issues between our two countries since American independence. It will bring about order and stability by promoting commerce and investment in America. England has stood a strong example of constitutional order as opposed to the radicalism of the French Revolution.
The Alien Act increases the residency requirements for American citizenship from five years to fourteen years. It also requires all aliens to register upon their arrival in the United States. This act is important to our country because it is designed to eliminate people who might pose a threat to the United States. If any immigrant is viewed as dangerous to our country their deportation will take place immediately after authorization from the President. Foreigners are a deep threat to American society and the French immigrants arriving are more than likely going to side with their home country because of their hatred of Great Britain. This act makes it harder to vote if you’re not a naturalized citizen, this will decrease the impact on the vote and keep things in our party’s favor. The Sedition Act makes it illegal for any American Citizen with the intent of opposing the government take action through the media. The act isn’t intended to impose on anyone’s free speech, but to prevent disrespect and abuse of our government. It is important that the government has control over what is printed to avoid any malicious or untrue writing that may disturb our country’s peace.
