Diversity is an art. It is the art of thinking independently together. A government that consists of different people with different races representing their own, could always promote equality and justice throughout the nation. I believe that the government should maintain to have an equal number of officials according to race, in order to give importance to representation. It’s just like what former President Barack Obama did when he appointed a high diverse cabinet to help him lead the country. When he was elected as the President of the United States back in 2008, his fellow black men and women rejoiced since he was the first African-American who became the president. All the memories of the oppression and slavery were brought back but at that time, the Blacks felt that they finally had a voice. Nevertheless, he was also supported by the Whites and other races because of his meaningful advocacy. This is a great example to prove how a great government influences its people to make a great nation.
As a matter of fact, there are so many benefits of diversity and inclusion in the government. First, the government’s capacity to serve and protect its people who have different backgrounds would be increased and its ability to be receptive to different traditions and ideas will be enhanced. As a democratic country, the US should maintain a workforce that is reflective of the mixed-cultured American society, in order to be responsive and have high-quality services to the public. Also, a diversified kind of government can increase innovation. According to research, it shows that diverse management has been very effective if coupled with an inclusive environment to improve performance. When it comes to the government’s investments on salaries, training, benefits, pensions, and recruitment, they would definitely get a healthy return on human capital if they engage in recruiting the best and the brightest. The government could not secure the best and the brightest to help run the government if it would not reach out widely to all kinds of communities, where great talent and leadership exists.
Moreover, a meaningful diversity could definitely give voice to every race there is in America. As time passes by, we’ve seen missteps by leaders and officials because they fail to consider how people of different backgrounds might respond or be affected by their messages and point of view. Some offended other people by their insensitivity, some even lacked awareness when it comes to the people’s needs and relevance. These are some of the consequences that the United States government experienced when it’s not as diverse as it supposed to be. The government should consist of people who have a real concern for the citizens by helping the president connect with the communities. The president and his officials should engage with the opportunity to influence and promote policies that will recognize the diversity of its people as well. At a certain perspective, men cannot speak for women. The youth could not speak for seniors. White people cannot represent black people. That is why the maintenance of every possible diversity should be represented because it is necessary to create good governance. On the other hand, the people should also take part in making this country a better one. If we continue to believe in the advocacies and mission of the government then we, ourselves, are promoting peace and unity among us. Although it is difficult due to the differences in beliefs and opinions, we must all learn to trust the government in order for them to confidently do their duties in serving the nation. It is not an easy job, but them knowing that they have full support coming from the people will surely motivate them to govern the country and be of greater service to the people.
All things considered, United States of America is still experiencing a rampant division among its people. If it wants to continue being a global leader, if it wants to still be the land of opportunity for people worldwide, and still help those people who want to give themselves and their families a better life, then the government should reflect the diversity of its main treasure which is its people.
