ABSTRACT – In the present era everything needs to be maintained at virtualized data centers to increase the accessibility and security of the data, here comes Cloud into Role. Private Cloud facilities any organization to make its own data centers works as a cloud for its users but it is for only those who belongs to that organization. To make a cloud Private we have to distribute the keys like Microsoft Azure provide for its Dreamspark service. For this we have to feed up our keys in a database and every time when a new person gets a membership of our Private Cloud, he/she has to fill the required key. In an organization this key can be a cyberoam username and password and thus only authorized person can access that private cloud within that organization only. Creation of Private Cloud helps any institution that all the members of that institution can access the important data related to institution immediately uploaded by any other member.

I. CLOUD COMPUTING

The mechanism of storing, processing and  managing a data on the network of internet hosted remote servers instead on local servers for faster access and high security. There are majorly three types of services provided by cloud such as IaaS, SaaS, PaaS. IaaS – Infrastructure as a services, it creates a  virtual infrastructure to store the data and migrate the workload for generating better efficiency. Virtual server creates the user interface with the desired specification of the computerized infrastructure on the local computer that is termed as virtual machines. IaaS refers to online services that abstract user from the detail of infrastructure like physical computing resources, data partitioning, security, location, scaling, backup etc. SaaS – Software as a services, it provides software application over the internet such as CRM, email, games , communication, virtual desktop. SaaS wipe outs the requirement to install and run the application on local computer and thus abridge maintenance and support. A user can access all the SaaS application and services using any device having internet access. SaaS is also recognised by “on-demand software” that are priced on the basis of pay-per-use. PaaS – Platform as a service, it creates an environment for application developers. PaaS models typically includes operating system such as windows or linux, environment for programming language execution such as jdk for java, database for the storage, and the web server to access the HTTP files over the web. PaaS also possess specialized application such as dPaaS and iPaas. iPaaS (Integration Platform as a Service)  enables the developers to develop, execute and govern integration flows without installing or managing any hardware or middleware. dPaaS (Data Platform as a service) lend data management products and integration as a fully managed service. dPaaS users retain transparency and control over data through Data-Visualization tools.

II. FEATURES OF A CLOUD

(a) Characteristics a cloud already possess

1. On-demand-self-service – It is the allowance given to the user to interact the cloud at any time they needed for performing several tasks like building, deploying, managing, and scheduling without having any interaction with the cloud-service providers.  This lets the users to control and make decisions with their agility and their present-future requirements.

2. Elasticity and Resource Pooling – In cloud, there is gathering of all the resources over the network of internet hosted remote servers. cloud dynamically allocates and de-allocates the resources to the user as per their need and demand. The resource allocation should be elastic, so that all the demands can be fulfilled in a managed way.

3. Measured services and pricing – Systems on cloud automatically control and optimize the resource use by leveraging a metering facility to the type of service such as storage, bandwidth, processing, and active user accounts. This completely reflect the property of pay-per-use as resource can be monitored and controlled by both the service provider and the end users .

(b) Characteristics cloud needs to be possess

1. Cloud portability – It is the ability to move the applications and their associated data between one cloud service provider to another as well as between public and private cloud environment. A private cloud can be moved over the public cloud with the concerned effort but the actual problem arises when there is a shifting of public cloud over a private cloud as in this we have  to restrict the access of that public cloud from all the users who active or non – actively use it..

2. File versioning – Services with this facility don’t overwrite the existing file and make multiple versions of the file so the user can retrieve the old copies later. Major kind of cloud provides this facility but for a limited no of copies as well as the old copies are deleted after a limited time which may cause data loss. To avoid this drastic situation there must be a provision for the user that they can storage their highly recommended data for the lifetime.

3. Collaboration Tools – The best services should  allow the user to collaborate with the authorized user in multiple ways such as direct link and email with advanced password protection enabled at folders and sub-folders level.

4. Automatic synchronization – Services with this feature will update the user files that reflect all the edits made in real time.

The best cloud services should allow the users to schedule the permanent backups to an external drive to occur at specified time intervals for preventing any data loss.

5. View and edit files from the cloud – Cloud services such as music- and media- focused Amazon Cloud Drive doesn’t  permit the user to made a change directly to the file, for making a change the user needs to download the file and then upload it again after making the necessary edits. Transferring such  files from device to device is a time-consuming hastle. So the vast majority of the cloud in nowadays providing the facility to view and edit the files from the cloud using any of the devices such as tablets, laptops, mobiles, pc etc and the edits made are synced across all the devices.

6. Flexible storage capacity at an affordable price – Many storage platform offer a limited amount of data for a cheap price and get progressively more expensive as they grow large. The price of 1TB of storage can vary from $250 upto $1000. But  still there is no facility that a user or an organization can utilize the data as per their need not according to the plan and the charges will be accordingly to the use.

7. Security and File Encryption – Security is the prior concern when the users take their   crucial data to the cloud. If there is any leakage of private information, there would be great disaster. The data must be encrypted at least once before they are transmitted from the servers. The best encryption would be user generated so that the service providers themselves can’t access the data. Cloud must provide the facility to protect the files with a password particularly when they are accessed with mobile phones.

8. Reliable Tech Support –  whenever we talk about IT professional or Technical work, there arises technical problems that causes time havoc. To avoid this, help and Support Services must be present 24/7 hour.

III. PUBLIC CLOUD:

Public Cloud includes a service provider which makes the resources like applications and the storage, which is available over the internet to the general public. Public cloud services are either free or the payment is offered based on the model usage. Public cloud provides services to multiple clients using the same shared framework.

Cost saving is the most frequent benefit of public cloud computing. Organizations may develop their own applications, but a public cloud provider itself has to host them. The payment to the public cloud provider is made by hour.

(a) Features & benefits of public model

1. Ultimate Quantifiability- On the demand from the public clouds’ vast pool of resource, cloud resources are available so that to the fluctuations in activity, the applications that run on them can respond constantly.

2. Cost Effective- Greater levels of resource are brought together by public clouds and so from the largest economies of scale, public clouds can be benefited.  Some mass market propositions can even be free to the client, depending on advertising for their earnings.

3. Utility Style Costing-Often employment is given to a pay-as-you-go charging model by public cloud services where the customer will be able to approach the resource they need, whenever they need it, and after that only payment is done for what they use; therefore abstain from wasted efficiency.

4. Reliability- The number of servers and networks participated in creating a public cloud and the excess arrangement mean that should a physical component fail, on the remaining components the cloud service would still run unaffectedly. There will be no single point of failure which would be able to make a public cloud service endangered.

5. Flexibility- There are a multitude of IaaS, PaaS and SaaS services available on the market which follow the public cloud model and that are ready to be acquired as a service from any internet enabled device.

6. Location Independence- The accessibility of public cloud services via an internet connection guarantees that the services are available wherever the client is located.

(b) Services for Public Cloud providers

1. Become an enterprise-class cloud provider- All cloud services are not equal. The cloud services that customers use could be enterprise-class. For example, the member of the Cisco Cloud and Managed Services Program (CMSP) have approach to a file of 22 enterprise-class Cisco Powered services.

2. Accelerate Cloud Transformation- they must meet the growing insistence for cloud computing with the help of a desegregated services solution.

3. Automate Network and Infrastructure Management- They should give their customers an unusual experience, legalize new solutions faster and get better performance at lower cost.

IV. PRIVATE CLOUD

The main difference between public and private cloud is of dedication. Private Cloud unlike public cloud, is dedicated to a single organization. A Private Cloud is a software defined data center that combines essential hardware and other computing resources into a unified virtualized unit. A private cloud is typically hosted within a company’s firewalls. The private cloud model is closer to the traditional model of individual local area networks (LANs) but with the additional feature of virtualization.

(a) Features and Benefits of Private Cloud

1. Higher security and privacy – Private cloud use distinct pools of resources with the restricted access to connection made from behind the organization’s firewall, on-site internal hosting and/or dedicated leased lines, that keeps the data secured from the preying eyes.

2. More Control – As private cloud is only accessible within the single organization, that organization possess the ability to manage and configure it inline according to their needs to achieve the tailored network solution. Thus a high level of control can be achieved with the centralized management of the hardware.

3. Faster Access – Private cloud is only accessible by a limited number of users that increases the efficiency of load balancing of cloud and thus making the access faster.

4. Cost and Energy Efficiency – Implementation of a private cloud can improve the allocation of resources by ensuring that the availability of resources to individual departments/ business functions can directly and flexibly respond to their demands. Private Cloud make the use of computing resources more efficient than traditional LANs as they minimize the investment made for unused capacity. Private cloud also reduce the carbon footprint of an organizations.

5. Cloud Bursting – This service allows the provider to switch certain non-sensitive functions to public cloud to free up more space in private cloud for the sensitive functions whenever required. Cloud bursting is also considered as partial integration of private cloud with public cloud.

6. Improved Reliability – when resources   (servers, networks etc.) are hosted internally, private clouds are more resilient to individual failures across the physical infrastructure, but the creation of virtualized operating environments means that the additional servers pull the resources of remaining unaffected servers and compensate for the malfunctioning server. Having an internal private cloud hosting or in the data centres of a service provider, users get their own dedicated set of resources in a virtualized environments that

allows them to deliver infrastructure, platforms and software applications in a easily managed, scaled, and billed service architecture.

(b) Recently added additional features of Private Cloud

1. Secure VPN connections –   Enterprises have been enabled to settle mission critical environments with the facility to create VPN connections by using a bunch of security protocols to interact with multiple sites simultaneously. For example, “Greenclouds” Private cloud uses IPSec and SSL/TLS to interconnect manifold sites

V. PROPOSED WORK

A system has been built in HTML5, PHP, and Sql which can provide the facility to the

user that they can upload their personal document such as images, videos, pdf, doc, Rar files upto  64 MB at a once. This system is then shared over LAN of college which is secured by cyberoam. Since the system is in security of cyberoam, users can create and access their account only if they know the cyberoam id and password. Only the students, faculties, and other staff  possess  the cyberoam id and password which would restrict the use of the system by invalid users. As the system is shared over LAN of college no user can access their account of this personal system beyond the range of college.

Both the feature that are –

• No access of the system outside the institution/ organization, &

• No user who do not have permission to access the system can use it.

fulfills the attributes of Private cloud and also makes the efficient form of cloud at the college level where users can upload/ download their personal data. Here Admin can  also upload the documents such as assignments, time table of exams etc that are visible to all user from their profile. thus we have also fulfilled the concept of  sharing data of cloud computing.
