Eating Disorders.
Television does not make children fat. Sitting down all day makes children fat. The study says that the 10% of children who suffer most from attention deficit, and who are most confused, are likely to be the same 10% of children who watch more than seven hours of television a day. That is why the first and the most dangerous effect of watching too much of television is mass physical degradation in our society. People, who spend hours and hours in front of the TV sets, are under very high risk of becoming overweight and obese. At that, television works for putting on weight form two different directions which it considerably reduces physical activity of obsessive TV viewers, and, at the same time, promotes unhealthy eating choices, like the foodstuffs with high content of sugar and fat, and so on. Also it is very common to snack excessively of to drink a lot of beer when watching some exciting programs, like sport, different competitions of thrillers. Therefore, supported with the models of extreme alcohol consumption in different TV shows and movies, television encourages drinking, especially among the teenagers and adolescents. That is why obsession with watching TV can cause some dangerous addictions. For example, my cousin who is 9 years old, he starts to watch cartoon’s chanels right after school until he goes to the bed. As a result he doesn’t spend time to do other activities, such as homework, playing with other kids, eating at regular times, and interacting with his family. By this laziness, they’re not being active. At times they will eat in front of the TV, making their food not digest properly, which leads to being overweight. For this reason, it is not a good idea that kids is spend a lot of time watching TV because it make the children inactive.
As a summary, one of the most important physiological effects of watching TV in excessive amounts is eating disorders. People are captured by the TV; they never get enough of it. So they begin to eat in front of the television. Their meals are often unhealthy because they also don’t take the time to cook a healthy meal. Besides, they are very inactive and don’t do anything else. As a consequence, people get eating disorders and have to deal with obesity.
2.1.2 Focus on Psychological Effects
Possible Mental Disorders
The other group of effects, which can be caused by watching too much of television, is connected with possible mental disorders or disturbances. The most spread of those are attention deficit disorder and other problems with emotional health. In addition, obsessive TV watchers frequently feel so called exhaustion of the orientation response, which results in constant feeling of tiresome and weariness. Bringing the effects of relaxation into our minds, television actually disturbs human brain and makes it tired even within the first minutes of TV watching session. Recent researches discovered that television slows down our thinking. Also, image and color flickering affects human vision and, especially, functioning of heart, because the frequencies of such flickering can correspond to the frequencies of the heartbeat or to some electrical frequencies, which support functioning of human heart and brain. Resonance of such frequencies is especially dangerous for a human organism.
One reason why people should not watch too much TV is reduction of mental capacity. As we know that when people watch an excessive amount of television they do not look for new solutions of any problems. TV changes the way of thinking. This is especially noticeable in the younger generation. Usually the film ends happily, even if the characters in the film were pursued by criminal group or Interpol. Because of this, people stop to look for the solution of problems and expect that everything will be resolved by itself well. In their brains creativity and the desire to create completely replaced by continuous consumption of the information which was produced by TV. That is why after watching too much TV people get typical forgetfulness and decreased ability to think abstractly. Also excessive TV watching changes the outlook on life. Most of those who met in real life with the representatives of various professions, say that, in reality, these people are quite different. They are very different form television characters, because TV does not show the reality, but try to show perfect life.
As an another reason, excessive TV watching leads to emotional frustration in families and problems with relatives. It happens, because people get used to observe the dramatic developments of hero screen, to share all their experiences, tragedies, challenges and so on. Rather than spend time with family and friends, people are worried about fictional characters. People are so accustomed to these characters that other people may seem less intimate than the vending hero of the next series. Maybe if people will spend more time with their relatives and families instead of watching TV, the statistics of broken marriages will be many times better.
Violence
Everything that children see or hear in the media such as too much watch TV early on in their lives affects them in some way. Positive parenting role models indicate that in the best interest of our children we should limit their exposure to violent acts. Unfortunately, violence is one of the most popular forms of entertainment. Over sixty percent of television shows being shown in prime time contain some form of violence. There are two very opposite sides of this issue. The media who market the violent television, video games and other forms of entertainment argue this is safe entertainment and the others argue that violence promotes violence. Current research tends to agree with the proponents who argue that violent media is associated with aggressive behavior. Risky behavior by children and young adults can include violence against others, lack of remorse of consequences. The type of faulty thinking creates stressors in children which can lead to the onset of many different symptoms. Children who view media violence are more likely to have increased feelings of hostility, decreased emotional response to the portrayal of violence and injury that lead to violent behavior through imitation. An example here would be the television show Jack Ass. There have been several accidents related to young men attempting stunts that are done on the show. The act of imitating what they have seen on a television show causes injury to themselves or others around them.
The Academy Of Pediatrics says "More than one thousand scientific studies and reviews conclude that significant exposure to media violence increases the risk of aggressive behavior in certain children, desensitizes them to violence and make them believe that the world is a ‘meaner and scarier’ place than it is". If children begin to think that this type of violence is normal behavior these thoughts are often said to be difficult to change later on in life. This is similar to the studies of domestic violence where children who are exposed to violence either become offenders or victims because they believe that what they are exposed to is the norm. It’s easy to get the wrong idea what happens in the TV screen, happen in reality. Whatever happens on the screen, kids would do the same actions from whatever they saw on their TV screen. For example, watching Power Ranger, a kid focus on one actor that fight on the screen, the kid would take the same action when in real life, the kid cannot fight, and he could get hurt.
On the other hand the makers of these violent types of media such as movies, video games and television argue that violent children are drawn towards these types of violent entertainment. These people believe that the child must have been exposed to more than just programming in order to exhibit behaviors that they may have seen on television or in the media. Some will argue though that the real effect is so small that in fact one hypothesis suggest that exposure to violent media such as watch TV can actually provide a healthy release for the frightening emotions of children and young adults, At the age children begin to watch TV they have not quite developed the ability to distinguish between what is reality and what is not. This can cause young children to act upon the violence they have viewed on television, not knowing that what they are doing is wrong or inappropriate.
As a result, another important psychological effect is being exposed to violence. After seeing so many violent scenes on TV, people start considering violent actions normal and they lose their sensitivity to their environment. Due to these violent scenes people tend to aggression. TV programs with violent content especially influence the behavior of children. So, the next generation is going to be aggressive and violent. The fact of the matter is that parents should monitor and be more attentive to their children. In the act of a busy life we all tend to forget the real life issues. Parents need to pay more attention to their children’s lives and not sit them in front of the television, weather it is for movies, video games, or general television shows.
