Remember, Piano, Poem at Thirty Nine (poetry)

All three poems have several moods and tones that allow the readers understand what and why the poet feels this way throughout the poem. ‘Piano’ is a nostalgic, retrospective and reluctant poem although the mood in this poem is toward the dampening and melancholy side, "my manhood is cast," throughout the poem he explains how he misses her mother in the past memories, "pressing her poised feet" and at the upmost importance that he "weeps like a child for the past," this represents remembrance because he misses his mother the most since he was the closest to his mother out of all of his family. He misses her mother from this quote as she had left this world around years ago; we know this poem is retrospective as he "weeps" that suggests the term crying. He also let’s the reader know how his childhood was revolved around his mother, "the glamour of childish days is upon me," this conveys that in his childhood there was nothing to worry about because he had no problems and was living his life beautifully with his mother. Similarly, ‘Poem at Thirty Nine’ is also nostalgic, but at the same time fast-paced. The mood and tone of this poem is going to be depressing similar to ‘Piano’ as she is in thought of her father and what characteristics had been passed down to her, "he would have grown to admire the woman I have become." This illustrates that she has become very independent and self-explanatory for herself at the age of and suggests that her father will be proud of her. Each stanza represents a different memory of her father; this is why the structure of each stanza is different. Another reason why the mood and tone is sad in this poem is, "how I miss my father" this gives evidence that her father has passed away and the poet is in remembrance of him which causing the reader to be unhappy about the loss, at the same time this also introduces the theme of remembrance. Throughout this poem, it gives a feel as if Walker did not spend any paternal time with her father as a cause of this it causing Walker to remember her father even more.

In comparison to ‘Remember’ they differ slightly in mood because the mood in ’Remember’ tends to be imperative and depressing. The mood of the poem is ordered but increasingly cautious, the inevitabilities of being able to remain with the beloved of audible advice and prayer are replaced by vestiges of memory amongst increasing absent-mindedness. The poem shows a depressing mood in the mood because the persona is explaining when she is gone away from this world; she wants to be remembered for the good things. Unlike "Piano" and 'Poem at Thirty Nine', ‘Remember’ utilizes a progression of commanding words. "Remember me when I am gone away" "Only remember me," with the two quotes it is similar to Rossetti requesting her mate and her nearby ones what to do and take after when she is gone into the "silent land." This creates an impact to the loved ones on how she needs to be remembered. Additionally there is Rossetti's utilization of repetition. The poems ‘To My Mother’ and ‘Digging’ explains how the appreciation and respect for their beloved parent can grow. ‘Poem at Thirty-Nine,’ ‘Digging’ and ‘Follower’ have similarities and they show how memories can stay back and remain with the others in points such as actions and activities. Last but not least, ‘Remember’ portraying the theme of remembrance shows how it can depress others under different circumstances. Overall, all the poems express the theme of remembrance as their own style of perspective, although the poems also convey death in the poems too. Remembrance is a normal part of life and it is truly formidable.
