Art is everywhere around the world. Many people in the world take the art in the world for granted, not realizing what life would be like without it. It can provide satisfaction and entertainment in people’s lives. Art brings color and theme to the world. Other than keeping the world from being dull and boring, it also has many other benefits. Many people rely on art for many different reasons. Whether it is for entertainment or for a sense of security. Art serves as a learning tool, it can provide relief from pint up emotions or trauma, and it has the ability to bring people together.

Art is able to provide a way of learning through music. Music is a type of art that is a significant part of our lives, as it provides satisfaction and pleasure. Children often use music to express themselves, and come to terms with their own fears and desires (Brouillette). It is a very important part of a child’s life, because many children grow up hearing nursery rhymes and songs that help educate them as they develop. The ABC’s and The Itsy Bitsy Spider are examples of a few of those songs. The Itsy Bitsy Spider is about a spider that climbs up a water spout, but when it starts to rain the spider falls. After the rain stops and the sun dries out the water from the rain, the spider tries to climb the spout again. This teaches children to never give up. If children cannot get it the first time, they learn to try again. The ABC’s song teaches children the alphabet, which can help them learn the letters and how to spell words.

Music can also be used to introduce daily routines and behaviors to children, such as a cleanup song or a lunch time song. It can teach them how to express themselves and how to understand and assume basic personal responsibility. Singing about feelings can help children learn words to describe their emotional experiences. For example, the song If You’re Happy and You Know It. It teaches children how to express themselves if they are happy. Children can also learn about themselves and each other by playing music together and listening to each other. Music lessons that were designed to develop visual, auditory, and motor skills have also benefited reading skills.

People can learn a great deal of things from music and art. Music helps people better themselves and learn skills that could help them throughout life. It has shown the ability to enhance a range of personal and social skills. There are many ways that it can enhance a person’s skills. One way to enhance a person’s skills could be by learning to play an instrument. Many instrumental teachers do believe that the benefits of learning to play an instrument does not only include gaining a love and enjoyment of music, but it also can include development of social skills developing team-work, developing physical co-coordination, and developing a sense of achievement, self-discipline, and confidence (Kokotsaki). Learning to play an instrument and being a part of a band can help develop team work by working together. A group of instruments need to work together in order for their music to be in sync and sound good. If they do not work together, they will not be able to create good music. Their music would not be in sync. It can help develop self-discipline, because that is what it takes in order to practice constantly and get better. Not only does it help develop self-discipline, it can also be a way to expression one’s self and provide a type of relief.

Art can also be used to provide a form of expression and relief. It is essential that people express themselves in order to maintain physical and mental health. There are many ways for people to express themselves and find relief. One of the most useful ways for someone to express themselves is through music. Sometimes it can be hard to find the right words to describe how a person may feel. Creating music is a way to express those feelings and emotions. Some artists use music without words to describe what they are feeling or to describe something. Creating music can allow writers to get in touch with their inner emotions and express them. Song writers can write about experiences that they have gone through and how those experiences have made them feel.

Listening to music can also be a way to release bottled up feelings and emotions. It can be a way to escape from the outside world. It can have lyrics that can captivate people with powerful messages that can touch them in a special way. It can express someone’s emotions for them and can be therapeutic in a way. Listening to music can be a very effective way for people to express themselves and to cope with challenges they may come across in life. Life can be hard at times. In these hard times, listening to music can be a positive way to express who the person listening is and what they are feeling. Everyone has moments in which they feel as though they are full of pain, confusion, sadness, etc. Whether it is because of an ending relationship, problems with family, or even experiencing some type of trauma.

Many people use art therapy to provide different kinds of relief. It allows people to escape from their pain and concentrate on what makes them happy. According to therapists, “Art therapy is a form of psycho-corrective interaction, using different artistic means to facilitate a patient to express emotions” (Hoffmann). It can be used on patients as well as healthy adults and children. There are various kinds of art therapies. One kind of art therapy is music therapy. It is used to improve the lives of individuals. There is also a concept known as chronotherapy in which therapeutic activities are used by engaging the use of film, theater, visual arts: painting, drawing, and sculpture (197). People can create, establish self-awareness, gain artistic skills, develop communication, and imagination thinking skills from a setting that art therapy can provide, Veterans that are diagnosed with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) rely on art therapy to release from any trauma they may have.

A clinical study of drawings from war veterans was done. Male veterans were admitted to the Day Unit, Clinic of Psychiatry, between 1992 and 1996, and were treated for two months. Eighty-nine of the male war veterans were diagnosed with PTSD. Five hundred fifty-three drawings were collected from the PTSD veterans.  Only 17.2% of the drawings were non-war related themes. The most frequent type of war-related themes among the veterans were “horrifying war zone traumatic events with threatened death or injury and witnessing wounded and killed combatants in 48.3%” (Mandić-Gajić). During discussion the veterans expressed horror, grief, loneliness, anger, helplessness, guilt and the need to forget anything related to exhibited drawings. They stated that they felt unpleasant when calling up memories. Though, after a few sessions most of the veterans changed their perspective, and were more interested in discussing drawings or people with everyday life themes (Mandić-Gajić). As the sessions went by the veterans were more concerned about everyday life than the trauma they had encountered. Art therapy helps people by allowing them to draw how they are feeling or what is on their mind. By doing this, it allows them to move past the emotions they are feeling or the trauma they have endured and move on to better things.

Art is a type of language all on its own. It has the ability to bring people together. Music concerts is a time when people from all over gather together to participate in a musical activity. Listening to music, or playing it, with other people can make you feel more connected to them. Being a part of a band or choir, can also bring people together. People in a band come together to make music by playing instruments. They cooperate with one another in order to perform in sync and make good music. This increases their trust between each other and increased their chances of cooperation in the future. In choir, individuals come together in order to sing in a harmony. This also increases their trust in each other (Suttie). Music has the ability to strengthen social bonds.

Music can provide a sense of belonging. People often tend to think better of other people after discovering that person likes the same kind of music as them. Music can also influence how people might think others can get along. Studies find that when people listen to music with their peers and family members the social cohesion is higher within them. Even in some cultures where interdependence is less valued this effect is true, pointing to the fact that music can act as a “social glue” that can bind people together (Suttie). Music has the ability to bring everyone together. It is able to make people from around the world come together and feel connected.

Art plays a huge part of our lives. Without it the world would not be as joyful or as bright as it is now. Music, theater, poetry, stories, and many other forms of art provide entertainment, satisfaction, a sense of security, etc. Art can allow a type of escape from the world. If someone is feeling depressed the can look to art as a way of escape. Art can benefit people in many different ways. A few of those benefits are that it can be a type of learning tool, it can provide relief, and it has the ability to bring people together.
