The political climate in Germany is ever changing and with increasing dissent among the Christian-Democratic Union, I, as the leader of the Left, will bring about true change to the Bundestag and the Bundesrat. It is time that the people of Germany are represented by a progressive party union rather than the capitalistic CDU/CSU union. It is time that we work for all people rather than the political elite. We must work to bring about unity, peace, and prosperity, and through the progressive reforms we offer, I believe we can achieve our goals. The Left is proud to stand behind our policies accepted at our last party conference. Believing in values that have helped German’s and others over the last 80 years, we believe that through true progressive reforms we can make Germany great again.
Since our dark era and the fall of the Third Reich, Germans have been dedicated to the betterment of society for all persons in a non-prejudicial way. We have been working together to bring about change and help our neighbor. It is through this that we have become such a strong power again in the international arena. It behooves us to use our power as a rising leader to do what is right, not only for Germany but for the entire world we influence. Here on the Left, we believe in international peaceful disarmament. Through this we can be a safer world with a flourishing population. We believe in a reformation of the United Nations to best serve all countries and not have an imbalance of power that is ever-present today. The progressive reforms we would implement will help everyone get more out of their lives rather than being constantly subjected to a foreign power’s influence.
In recent years, we’ve noticed that the great Super Power of today’s age, the United States of America, has been taken aback by the extreme welcoming nature of so many countries to allow the International Criminal Court jurisdiction over they’re citizens. They believe that their sovereignty is more important than an international cooperative measure to ensure justice. We believe in a unified international force under a strict balance of power for developed and developing countries to help bring about lasting peace and justice for all nations and states. The International Criminal Court is a good start on providing a united front in combating genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, as well as crimes of aggression. We are very proud that Germany was one of the first countries to sign on to the Rome Statute and when in power, we hope to expand the capabilities of the International Criminal Court.
In addition to the current status of the Rome Statute, we would find it ideal to extend the duties of the Court. We support an amendment to create a more collaborative Court in which international cooperation is used in carrying out sentencing. We support criminalizing the use of weapons prohibited for use in the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons. International disarmament is the ideal structure for which our world will grow and flourish. The expansion of jurisdiction will be pivotal in fighting international crime syndicates.
The International Criminal Court is a vital measure taken by the international community to help stop the spread of aggression, human rights violations, and crimes against humanity. The Left party of Germany supports the innocent girls and other victims of the vicious acts Boko Haram has carried out. These atrocious attacks are a blatant attack on the peace and a clear violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The fundamental freedoms of these persons are being breached by an organization who’s perversion of the defensive jihad propagated by Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria has led to an increased militant force, destabilizing the region.
As far as the Left party is concerned, we do not, in any way, support the dissolution of the International Criminal Court. Its complementary nature is best suited for dealing with situations that plague our world far too often. We believe that with the reformation of the United Nations into a more respectfully balanced, international legislature-styled body, it and the ICC could work in tandem to effectively create a peaceful world. With this, the power of the individual state is not diminished but emboldened through the power of unity and cooperation.
Terrorist organizations not only threaten the way of life of those in Nigeria or Syria, they threaten the lives of us right here in Germany. They threaten the peace that we have worked tireless to achieve. They threaten the stability of Europe, the Americas, and Asia. Terrorist groups like Boko Haram must be stopped. We must work together. In the case of Boko Haram in Nigeria and the surrounding region, we fully support a coalition of international actors working together in a joint force to ensure stability is reestablished in the region. No one should have to live in fear from terrorists. It is imperative that action is taken to swiftly bring justice to those responsible. The International Criminal Court has begun its preliminary case hearings and fact finding missions to determine whether or not they will carry out charges. The Court has jurisdiction over the Nigerian nationals since the ratification of the Rome Statute. The carrying out of justice will be slow, but we believe the ICC will find the correct answer.
While we support the development of an international cooperative security force, we do not support the use of the Bundeswehr, in any form, anywhere outside of Germany. If intervention takes place, it must be done at the hands of an international, non-partisan force that will not be representing any one country’s interest. The international community is dominated by overpowering state’s who capitalistic ventures have cost them trillions of dollars in expenditures on so-called “defense.” Undue influence from the United States is exerted over the people of the world and so we call for the removal of U.S. Military bases here in Germany as a testament to the sovereignty of our great republic.
Throughout the Boko Haram crisis in Nigeria, Germany has been at the forefront of aid and we have been working diligently to identify the best course of action. Through joint training operations and enhanced boarder security, the threat Boko Haram poses on the Nigerian people can be diminished. Without the aid of the international community, the number of innocent civilians engaged in this conflict will just continue to rise. The collaborative forces working together for the common goal on stomping out terrorism and restoring peace will be a beacon of hope for Nigeria and other developing countries plagued with anti-development terrorist groups.
Through continuing the German support of the International Criminal Court, and expanding its purview to include more offenses through proposed amendments, I will work to strengthen Germany as a whole and increase our standing in the world scene. I will fight for the restructuring of the United Nations in an unparalleled reformation movement. I will diligently work to keep our military here at home and not out on an imperialistic expansionary path. I will work to unify the country so that we may best help each other, and from there, the world. The Left Party is the progressive party that Germany has been in need of. We bring fresh ideas to help solve grievances across party lines and on a global scale. We wish to bring about sound financial institutions and a peaceful era for history to look kindly upon.
