An HR Manager is expected to deposit substantial efforts to develop and implement strategies that later will contribute to the efficiency and performance offered by employees and teams coordinated by other managers. The HR manager will advise the managers of other departments on HR activities, will help motivate employees and reduce levels of turnover. In a company’s business an important role plays the quality of employees and HR managers capabilities, who are meant to identify the best employees who make the company prosper. A company that aims to achieve the expected success must take great care to choose the best HR experts. But what kind of qualities they should possess?

HR management must have a good understanding of the company’s needs. While experience is important, managers should not forget that they are not only hiring a person, but a potential result for the future. For example, experts say that a company does not need a sales manager, but a person who knows how to sell well.

If you find yourself in such a position it is better to think about how the candidate will adapt to that company, how he/she will integrate into the organization, what kind of skills and weaknesses he/she has. An effective HR manager must ensure that the candidates come prepared, that they know exactly what they can expect: when, where and who will conduct the interview. A HR manager with exceptional qualities knows to ensure that those who will attend the interview will not be faced with unpleasant surprises or uncertainties.

It is believed that the first day of work of an employee is not the one when they come to the office, but the one when they go to an interview and they get to interact with the organization for the first time. HR managers know all about the candidates! A good HR manager must do their homework, and that is to know the candidate who attends the employment interview. He must start with the candidates resume, and not focus only on the qualifications, but notice the passions and goals that drives the candidate.

To be successful in their field, HR managers must have certain skills. Ability is an individual attribute that conditions a certain performance. HR managers should have four basic skills: professional, interpersonal, conceptual, analytical and diagnostics.

Professional skills

Professional skills are those that define a person’s competence in a particular field. HR directors must have the necessary knowledge in their professions. They acquire this knowledge, mainly in formal way.

Interpersonal skills

Interpersonal skills are the ability to work with people. They imply the manager to have the ability to communicate and get along with groups or individuals. The importance of these skills will increase with time, this element being favored by the information technology advancements.

Conceptual skills

Conceptual skills are those that allow a manager to consider the organization as a whole. They depend on the manager’s skills to abstract. They need to understand the cause-effect relationships in the organization and to think in strategic terms.

Skills for analysis and diagnosis

It is the manager’s ability to identify the nearest response to a given situation. It must define the problem, to discover possible causes, to consider settlement options, to choose the best option, to implement and then monitor the results.

Characteristics of successful HR managers.

In order to be successful in the HR management, the specialist must possess a combination of abilities. They should combine business objectives with employees’ desire for job satisfaction. We can mention the following characteristics of successful HR managers:

• Use a positive attitude:

– Enthusiasm should be spread out among staff;

– Encouraging subordinates;

• Flexibility:

– Rapid adaptation to circumstances;

– Quick response to the challenges of competition;

– In a short period of time must:

– Respond to a complaint;

– Lead a session;

• Follower of continuous improvement because:

– Business is in constant motion;

– There are new advances in technology;

– Any new products or services;

• Initiator of quality:

– Quality of goods and services is essential to the success of the company;

• Assessment of subordinates:

– Promoting the workforce diversity;

– Recognizing the role of human resources.

Managers are interested in increasing the performance of the companies they lead. Other concerns include promoting workplace satisfaction, increase productivity and quality of goods or services that the company offers to consumers. It is very important for HR executives to make all employees of a company understand that they can and should contribute directly to achieving these goals.

HR managers are responsible for working with other people, and through them, influences people and systems in an always changing environment. Some managers are leaders and visionaries, qualities that are needed when managers play a central role and decision-maker within an organization.

The Human Resources Management has a big role and influences everyone in an organization. HR divisions, the same as all departments of the organization must prove their contributions and values to the whole business strategy. Without an efficient human resource management, it would be difficult to adopt a vision or achieve the mission within an organization.

Many HR managers came to realize that the demands for new qualities, skills and management techniques are continuously evolving, and not being able to cope with this changes will make the organization lose the competitive advantage.
