Food, Initial Needs For Survival
The human need for food is one of the inherent and physiological needs; it is the most important factor for the survival and life. Food is an essential need, and human is forced to obtain food to quench the hunger. Proper nutrition and balanced is good for growth and leads to better health and longer lifespan. Initially, eating was only to crunch hunger, and feeling of hunger forced the human to consume everything that was available regardless of the quality and nutrition. Later, humans learned how to use the land and nature to provide their variety of food to consume. The urbanization and social life have caused many changes in the way human consume nutritional food. Today in regard to the growth of population and their need for food producing is one of the human concerns in contemporary society. As it is forecasted that by 2050 the world population will be 9.6 billion people. Due to the growing population and changing diets, the world will need to produce 69% more food (Ranganathan, 2013). Now, this question comes in mind that how this amount of quality food should be produced for the population. Although, we have advanced technology, several factors such as climate change and soil quality of the lane will restrict the production of food around the world. Thus, these factors will give negative impact and restriction in the different region. We will face a difficult challenge of overtime to meet with these four principles: access, availability, utilization and stability to provide food for all people (Sandhu, 2014). These are some of the reasons for food shortages, hunger and death in the world.
Food Source and Food Challenges
From long ago, the land has been the only source of food for humans, therefore, owning land has been creating many problems like war and slavery for the human. Nevertheless, until today, this problem has not been solved in some parts of the world and still we see there is the war over owning land. Other sources of food production for human come from raising animals which are also connected to the land. These two food sources have an essential role in food products. Although these two are the main source of food production, but with a rapid growing population partially they have lost their significance. Growing population, agricultural land converted to residential complexes. The shortage of land means lack of crop and livestock and finally food shortages. To fill this gap, human resorted to the use of chemical products for the rapid growth and increase production from the land. In fact, these are the challenge in the field of food production. Environmental degradation from two aspects associated with food: limiting the food (reduces food production) and an improper activity agriculture (soil erosion, water pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions and loss of biodiversity) is a serious threat to global food production. According to Brown (2013), “Growing demand for food and fuel has put pressure on the world’s agricultural lands to produce more. Now, a trend in “land grabbing” has emerged, as wealthy countries lease or buy farms and agribusiness in poorer countries to ensure their own future supplies. The result may be further economic disparities and even food wars” (p. 21). Nevertheless, global warming and large parts of the non-agricultural land is the global food crisis, also modern nutrition, poverty, and malnutrition have a significant impact on this crisis.
Corrective Solutions to the Food Crisis
Achieving food security more than anything else draws our attention to reforming consumption patterns, thus to solve the food crisis, we need a targeted plan with contributed to all countries because it does not belong to a particular region or specific individuals, but the whole world is involved in it. As the Ranganathan (2013) suggested that the “Achieving a sustainable food future, then, requires meeting the needs simultaneously: closing the food gap, supporting economic development, and reducing agriculture’s environmental impact” (p. 12). Since passage of the food crisis, we cannot produce more food without considering of environmental impact, so we should not provide food in the same way as today. By investing in the agricultural sector and support of health education, we can help the food security that will be beneficial to the whole world because freedom from hunger is a fundamental right person. In the other word, for skipping the food crisis we need innovation and a variety of technologies to meet the world's food demand such as technology to help us produce a safe, abundant, sustainable, and nutritious food supply. Use of GPS satellites to crop treatment without any threatened for soil, which decreases environmental impacts. Developments in livestock production, though raising animal health. Using of modern packaging technologies to raise the safety and freshness of our food (Reed, 2015). Supporting of cultivating and especially of small farmers, raising the level of knowledge in this field, and using different cultivation methods give an opportunity to consumers to have a variety of food. Todays, most of our foods contain the same ingredients and do not have the proper nutrients for growth and healthy life; every day, a lot of statistics release from obesity and malnutrition. The fast food industry is growing; Food marketers, television, and other advertisement engage the children and youth (2–11 years) to fast food purchasing that they are more likely to demand high fat energy dense snacks than healthy foods (Arredondo, Castaneda, Elder, Slymen, & Dozier, 2009). It is here that sense, the importance of education about food intake for consumers. This is a consumers’ right to be aware of what they eat and be familiar with the advantages and disadvantage of the food product.
Conclusion
Human life is dependent for food, and the food is dependent on agriculture and husbandry. The high rate of obesity in advanced countries, the percentage of world hunger in the world, and increasing population growth is warning that show we will be face to the food crisis in the future. Thus to the passing of this crisis we should make some changes in lifestyle, eating habits, and food production. These changes are not belonging to a specific country or region, but also include the whole world and it is not possible unless with the help of all governments and needs a program precise and targeted because it is all human’s right to have food and nutritional to adequate quantity of quality food at reasonable prices to provide people living a life with dignity (Sandhu, 2014).
