Some people think the media has been so massively global since always, especially the new generation who didn’t lean about the media history. For those this is quite obvious point, that Facebook or Instagram has been here forever, but the truth is 50 years ago people didn’t use social media because it didn’t even exist yet. People also, didn’t read the newspapers on their phones or iPads, because the technology wasn’t quite there yet as well. Everyone who wanted to know what is going on in the world had to either buy newspaper or just pick up free version of “metro” in front of the tube station or just either watch news in the television or listen on the radio. However, the world has change and it’s constantly changing everyday. The technology is now on its very,very top of development and people should be glad, that they have an access to digital news and can read about all the breaking stories which happened on the other side of the world. The society especially in the countries like United Kingdom, is mixed it. The people who live in this country moved from other parts of the world and for those people, this availability to read, listen or watch the news streamed online from their home country is massively important and also,for those who just feel that need to get general knowledge of world news.  

Media are going global, that’s for sure. However, there are a few media outlets which are being an excellent example. Globalisation itself means the process by which the world is becoming interconnected as a result of very increased trade and general cultural exchange. Globalisation has  massively increased the production of goods and services. The companies are growing bigger and bigger, national firms are becoming a multinational corporations with sub-offices in many countries. Globalisation hasn't started yesterday though, it has been on for years. Globalisation has effected increase of international trade and cultural exchange all over the world. The companies are not just in one city anymore, they’ve become global – they’re based in a few countries. Globalisation is used to explain the integration of economies, industries, cultures and government policies around the world. The process of globalisation definitely helps to develop efficiency of world trade, communication and transportation. Globalisation is an interesting development as also increasing standards of living in the countries which are part of this big process.

As Sparks (2000) has argued, no media is genuinely global in nature .In addition, the so-called global media’s audience is ‘too small, too rich and too English-speaking to be considered inclusive.” (reference)

There is a very little evidence that supports the existence of a global public sphere. Habermas argued that the public sphere is a space for a rational and very universal way of politics, from which both the economy and the state was destroyed by forces that had brought it into existence. However, the development of the economy in the way of capitalism led to an uneven distribution of wealth. “The liberal model of the public sphere… cannot be applied to the actual condition of an industrially advanced mass democracy organised in the form of the welfare state. In part the liberal model had always included ideological components, but it is also in part true that the social pre-conditions, to which the ideological elements could at one time at least be linked, had been fundamentally transformed.” ( Habermas 1979)

Regarding to Habermas words, the public sphere should be open for the society, which includes accessibility to the information, elimination of privilege. He’s also saying that the media should include public opinion and communication between writer and reader. At the global market at the moment, there is not many public media sectors which are there to tell people the truth and to cover all the important news and stories. However the private media are mostly taking over the market. The private media are not worse than public media. Nowadays the power to control media industry is concentrated in the hands of private owners and small number of big media corporations. Some of the private media are able to do more than public media, just because they have easier access to the funds, which they can use to cover more controversial stories and spend some more time for research. Although, some of the private media are just simply entertaining and covering gossip stories about celebrities. Thankfully, some of the private owned media are focus to produce breaking through and controversial stories. One of the examples might be Vice documentary films, which are made by independent producers and some of them might be strictly entertaining, but some of them are talking about very serious themes.

There is no doubt that all these globalising trends are made possible with the big help of mass media at the domestic and international level.

Globalisation emerged as a buzzword in the 1990s, just as "interdependence" did in the 1970s, but the phenomena it refers to are not entirely new. Our characterisation of interdependence more than 20 years ago now applies to globalisation at the turn of the millennium: "This vague phrase expresses a poorly understood but widespread feeling that the very nature of world politics is changing.”

Like all popular concepts meant to cover a variety of phenomena, both "interdependence" and "globalisation" have many meanings.One of the meaning might be globalisation of media which is probably most pervasive at the level of models in the industry. The world is becoming a much more integrated market based in capitalist or marketplace economics. This expert’s pressure on nations to make media more commercial, supported by advertising, aimed on consumers and to privatise telecommunications companies that formerly were government owned. As we shall see, most countries produce increasing amounts of their own televisions, music and magazines. But if they produce them by drawing on U.S., British, or Japanese models and genre ideas, then those “national” media products are still at least somewhat globalise

What are the media outlets? types of media outlets?

Media outlet is some sort of publication or broadcast program that provides news and feature stories to the public through various distribution channels. There is a lot of different media outlets,such a magazines which cover more in-depth, feature-style stories. Television is a medium of feeling,viewers in general react to appearance, voice, and attitude.Radio stations that feature news segments generally run them in the morning or during afternoon drive-time. Daily local newspapers and weekly community newspapers are an excellent means to communicate news about an activity, service, event, or issue. While daily local newspapers follow regional or national news, they place a strong emphasis on covering the stories from local angles. One of the biggest and newest at the moment media outlets is definitely social media which allows an organisation or individual to directly communicate news and messages to members, subscribers, the general public and even other media outlets. Speaking about Social media, we can’t forget about magic power of Facebook or twitter where just a little new written in a few seconds might be firstly faster than newspapers, television or radio and secondly it might be something of the other media don’t want to talk about,however it’s important.  The media due the intensive process of convergence changed immediately from the paper magazines to digital versions and so on. Jenkins (2006:3) defines convergence as “ flow of content across multiple media platforms”, he also suggests that the audience play a key role in creating content and that the convergence has to be analyse as well in social as technological way of changed within the society. Whole the process has been pushed through by the society and the development of technology, people wanted to have easier and faster access to news. A massive influence an intensive process of convergence has social media, which are people are obsessed with. The media have to be connected to the different platforms as society expects the original and the digital version which they can play on their phones or tablets.

what is vice? how does it work globally? why is so popular?

Vice is a company with a long history which started in 1994 from one magazine and its live until today. However Vice has changed, Now, Vice is a global multimedia company, partly owned by Fox. Vice does a lot of great things. It makes a point of covering the dirty corners of the world. It does stories in war zones, and poverty-stricken slums, and authoritarian hellholes. Sure, some of those stories are little more than wide-eyed disaster tourism and painfully oblivious smirks at situations that deserve sobriety. But as a media entity, Vice produces a great deal of content on issues, places, and situations that tend to be neglected by what is colloquially called the "mainstream" media. And that is worthwhile in aggregate, even if it is sometimes exasperating in its particulars. Vice’s office is based probably in every main country in the world. However, do we know if the content which appear either on the website or in the Vice free magazine has been written by writers from this particular country? Have you ever picked up Vice magazine when you were away in France or Mexico? Even, looking at the Vice website in the foreign language and just clicking in first article, very often the name of journalist who wrote this particular piece will be an english name. Why? The process is really simple,even though, Vice is a massive global company still hiring a person to do translations on the freelance basis is much cheaper than to pay a journalist for the publication. From the other hand, as Vice is a global monster the audience expects from them to be posting the content every couple of hours. The strong article doesn't take a few minutes, to do it the journalist needs hours or even days for research,interviews and to finally write and edit the text. It all takes time, of course a little news stories are produced on daily basis and these just usually take a few minutes to prepare and post them. Vice is not just a Vice News, the company including a separate Noisey, Motherboard,Munches and a few others which are covering a particular topics. However, Vice does thrilling documentaries as well as video interviews. Most of these projects are covered by the film companies which are not part of Vice, however they’re just do some sort of collaboration together. The process looks more or less like the producer pitching the story to Vice office, then someone from the head office review it and decide whether they wanna go for it and buy the idea or not. While my work experience at Vice I’ve learnt a lot about how this weird sometimes in a way company works.A lot of content which is produced is sponsored by brands and stories, however Vice do a lot of good journalism. The mission is basically to speaking truth to power, going where others won't, doing the stories that the mainstream media is too lazy or afraid to do. Hamilton Gawker in his article about Vice Salaries says that a lot of Vice employees are not happy with their annual pay, even though they’re working very hard. He says also, that Vice emperor Shane Smith watches his millions increase, his employees cannot afford rent in Brooklyn. The employees do not hate Vice, they all love it, the only things that everyone expects a decent pay from one of the most decent and successful media companies which clearly is Vice. Gawker in his article says "The appeal is street cred, lots of free parties/booze and the hope that one earns a coveted Vice ring." (Literally, a ring that says "VICE," given to lucky employees.) “. Smith should definitely think a little bit about how his empire works and how to make his employees happier, as because of them he can earn his billions of dollars.

Globalisation is not over yet, the process is on all the time and the media world is constantly changing every day. Globalisation just pushed the modernity process of changes a bit further and faster. However, globalisation itself is not a perfect god creation, it’s a process made by people. Globalisation has many,many good aspects. Perhaps, without the process of globalisation we wouldn't be able to know about wars in The Middle East or about poor people from Africa who desperately need help. It also gives people kind of mobility to be able to read or listen about news in the digital version wherever and whenever they want. There are even phone application which can send an alert and inform a person what just happened. Although, in all this positives aspects, there are a parts of the process of globalisation which might be very negative. Globalisation makes people mostly just think in this very selfish way and most of the media owners are just thinking about money and commercialism. People are all about money and self improvement in this modern age, which is sometimes very sad. Vice, which is one of the media pioneers and for some people is just a dream place to work. It meant to be a place where people are happy to work and where they can actually make their own projects or ideas happen. However, unfortunately there is no perfect place in this world. Even Vice have a little defects which are low pay for hard working journalists and just simply probably blindness of the CEO Shane Smith who earns millions and his employees hardly can afford life in the city. Everyone knows Vice as this “cool” place, where employees are dressed very casual and atmosphere is very light and easy. It’s “coolness” which people can hear from the gossips doesn’t really represent a reality, as this place is not as “cool” to work as they say. Most of the Vice employees are not getting relatively enough money for their hard work. The company is spread all over the world and Vice office is based in quite a few major countries. However, Vice is cheating, in the way, they’re translating content from English to other languages. Why don’t they just employe a young, determinate journalist who want to tell world the truth? Well, the world probably will never find out what the truth really is. Globalisation is a process which absolutely helping people, opening new opportunities but also, might really easily overwhelm people.
