“Prohibiting the communist influence in Australia”;

Good morning/afternoon my fellow Australian citizens, today I would like to express the importance of prohibiting the communist influence in Australia to all of you, it is vital to the Australian society that we have a leading government which does not follow the policy or any comparable policies to those of the labour party. Some of which are the introduction of the welfare state, in which the protection and promotion of the social and economic well-being of its citizens depends on the state, the labour party policy attempted to control rent and housing prices, as well as endeavour to nationalise banks. These are all policies that us as the opposing coalition unquestionably do not agree to and we do not suppose that the application of those policies will do our nation any benefit. Although the opposing political party, the labour party, denies being a communist party, they have policies which embody the characteristics of a communist party.

Following the most recent World War, World War 2, it developed a fear within all of us Australians that we would one day become a communist nation, however that is not the belief and ideology that the Liberal Party would like to pursue as we anticipate Australia to be an equitable democratic country. Subsequently, the strife that the last world war placed Australia and many other nations around the world in, it is of great priority to myself and the Liberal Party to improve our state of freedom, security and economy making us the strong nation we once were, rather than introducing new policies which may provoke an even larger issue for the citizens of Australia.

The trade union movement is now portrayed through increased militancy and the presence of the Communist Party. Although the communist influence densely impacted the labour movement, it also led to feuds between unionists against and for communism. On the other hand, the trade union is now addressing their focus to more social issues outside of the norm, such as Indigenous rights, gender discrimination and migrant welfare.

Whilst serving my second term as Prime Minister, I had intentions to eliminate the communist influence all throughout Australia and the union movement, as it had a negative effect on the citizens which constituted an everlasting fear in Australians’. At the time I concluded that the only way to achieve this was to abolish the Communist Party. If you weren’t apprehensive of this already, the parliament passed the Communist Party Dissolution Act in October of 1950, which I had conducted, nonetheless the law I had once prospected to be successful was challenged by ten trade unions in the High Court and it was from there announced to be invalid as of March 1951. Due the plan that was designated to abolish the communist influence failing, I had resorted to a referendum in September of 1951, in attempt to alter the constitution. The constitution stated that no members of the Communist Party were to be given a job by the government and they could no longer work as a trade union official in an industrial company. The Australian Communist Party Dissolution Bill 1950 said the Communist Party was to be declared an unlawful organisation and that the party's property could be seized and disposed of. The Australian Labor Party (ALP) officially responded to the Bill in May 1950. The leader of the Labour Party, Ben Chifley, accused the government of moving towards a totalitarian state, and that it was not necessary to proceed with the development of the law as the numbers of communist members were continually declining. The court case began on the 14th of November 1950 in the High Court. The court case carried over four months to make its decision that the Communist Party Dissolution Act 1950 (the Act) was invalid. Six of the seven judges ruled against the Act. There for 2,137,927 votes for the change of the constitution and 2,370,009 against the change.

Evatt’s perception of the Petrov Affair aggravated the existing unsolved controversies within the Labour Party, as the anti-communist side of the party opposed to his conspiracy theory that he mounted at the Petrov Royal Commission, this led to the ideology of him defending the Communist influence. His conspiracy theory was that I had manipulated and controlled the actions of Vladimir and Evdokia Petrov, in order to succeed in abolishing the communist influence. As you would've most likely been aware of prior to this meeting, the recent Petrov affair which caused a widespread political confusion, resulting in many legal changes and actions. It is correct that I was accused of conspiring the Labour party through the use of internal agents and manipulating the Petrov Affair. However, the two agents, Vladimir and Evdokia Petrov, involved in the scandal were under their own contract working for the Soviet Union without our government’s recognition until Vladimir’s defection which led to major turmoil between the Soviet Union government and the Australian government. But thankfully, Evdokia was able to seek asylum in Australia following the almost successful deportation back to Moscow whilst her spouse, Vladimir, was hidden in a safe house up north shore.

I cannot state how crucial it is to ban communism in Australia, if the communist influence takes leadership in Australia, then all citizens will not have the right to own any businesses or properties, there will be no freedom of speech and opinion, the needs of the citizens will not be considered as highly as in a democratic country and poverty is prevalent, Australia should not be embodied by these features, we should be a free standing country, everyone must have the right to life, speech, freedom and ownership. Thank you.
