Author

“A spiritual battle between a psychiatrist and her patient at another time today… There is an exotic fiction in the novel, in the Körfez Earthquake people have experienced in the recent past, “time” has been split and Fuat has found the origin of love at another time… In tandem with mystic atmosphere, readers will meet with an accomplished sample of the stream of consciousness.”

Metin Savaş is one of the quiet and retiring Turkish novelist but at the same time he will mention by his name with his post modern pieces. Savaş gradually advances, rarely appears on television, rarely seen on a part of page (column). He did not graduate from even highschool he never received a good education that is the way, it was fated to collect the rewards. The life of the booming author is not as bright as can imagine. In Balıkesir, he was born into a rural family which can be considered as crowded and wealthy. During age of five his family moved to Istanbul. While there is a bet time for getting a good education for Savaş, he had to drop out of Vefa High School and rolled up his sleeves to embark in working llife. He made money being a waiter and a call boy at a low ordered hotel. Being a waitress did not provide for the goodness, when financial problems occurred his parent’s peace disturbed. At the end, they came back to hometown, Balıkesir. From then on, he earned his keep as a stallholder (operating market stall). At the end of 2012, Savaş put up the shutters and dedicated himself to reading books and writing novels. He is a lack of any literacy training. The International Adult Literacy Survey (IALS) released in 1995, defined literacy as:

“The ability to understand and employ printed information in daily activities, at home, at work, and in the community to achieve one’s goals and to develop one’s knowledge and potential”.

UNESCO defines literacy as:

“a human right, a tool of personal empowerment and a means for social and human development.”

Literacy then involves understanding and being able to use information that is required in order to function effectively in the knowledge-based societies that dominate the twenty-first century.  As the Ontario Literacy Coalition describes it,

“Literacy has moved from a skill set that is nice to have to one that is necessary to have if a person wants to meet his or her personal and economic goals.”

In the second IALSS report, the literacy issue was described this way:

“While most people can read, the real question is whether their reading and writing skills meet the challenge of living and working in today’s information-rich and knowledge intensive society and economy…

Except for the fact that not graduated from even the high school, literacy training is a complicated occupation for Metin Savaş. Surprisingly, he became one of the greatest Turkish novelists. Even though he wrote an award-winning novel, his workmates did not even know Savaş was a novelist. In the past few days, an assistant professor guided his students who read Savaş’s novels and wanted to get them signed with Ihlas Press Agency. Until that last moment, townfolk was unaware that such a writer’s existence in Balıkesir. As stated, he never appeared on tv shows he can only be seen in his canteen in front of the Zagnos Pasha’s mosque, Balıkesir.

Having the biography reports indicating that, Savaş wants to write The Time Regulation Institute, when the reporter asked. Unstable economic structure caused a mental disorder and unstable human relations analyze in an unrivaled way. The character’s mental attitudes and spiritual conditions described transparently. Yet another exotic aspect of Savaş, finding a traditional novel character name such as ‘’buldumcuk’’ (to go wild with joy on finding something one has greatly desired).

Characters

Fuat: Fuat has fallen to the time of the great Istanbul earthquake a hundred years ago, is a journalist A type that likes to form long sentences, draw attention and read neurosis books who succumbs to depression. The son of Fuat’s uncle (his cousin) Tolga, throws together Fuat and Doctor Hayrunnisa for a “good job” rather than health problems. Fuat has been seeing a psychiatrist Doctor Hayrunnisa. Zemheri Kuyusu, starts with dialogue between Fuat and his Psychiatrist Hayrunnisa and continues with the form of Fuat’s self talks. The drollest one Fuat is aware of his psychological disorder when he talks nonsense he hides behind his neurosis. Fuat gets something off his chest peculiarly Arzu. Fuat is still in love with his ex-girlfriend Arzu. If so not Fuat always mentions about Arzu to his psychiatrist. Arzu leaves this neighbourhood in a while, it is not good to move from this area fort he sake of Fuat. It means that Fuat’s memories are going to disappear, which means that she moves from place to place. At the same time Fuat also wants writes a novel, he always tells his psychiatrist about his dream about being a author. It is probably misunderstood readers sometimes wonder whether speaker is a writer or Fuat. It makes the impression that Fuat is an author. In addition to his top list he always mentions about Deranged Mehmet. Deranged Mehmet tells a story he is the narrator of the village. Fuat gives an high importance to his dreams and nightmares and he acts so pleased while telling to his psychiatrist. Whenever Fuatg goes to therapy session, he loses track of time neither Doctor Hayrunnisa does. Fuat finds himself in the Istanbul earthquake occured a century ago and the common values between them come to the light.

“Professor looked at his guest. Fuat missed his eyes from the young girl. A slight aftershock rocked the apartment. Feride opened the TV by running. Earthquake on the screen called Dede nation. The channel changed. On the screen, the rescue crew from Western countries was crying out: “We do not want blood samples!” The channel changed. A discussion program on the screen. The heads of the nation are fighting.”

Tolga: Tolga is Fuat’s uncle’s son (cousin), who convinced to go see a psychiatrist and psychologist Hayrunnisa, irony of fate Hayrunnisa is the sister of Işık and Işık’s boyfriend is Tolga. Tolga shares the same flat with his cousin Fuat. They have common areas and interests virtually. In any case, Tolga stands by his cousin Fuat. Tolga, throws together Fuat and Doctor Hayrunnisa for a “good job” rather than health problems. Tolga conduce to Fuat and Doctor Hayrunnisa a common ground on this occasion only. Get back to the subject of Işık’s and Tolga’s relationship, their relationship is predicated on fiduciary and romance relationship. When examining the relationship between Fuat and Hayrunnisa and Işık and Tolga, Fuat and Hayrunnisa’s relationship puts Tolga and Işık’s relationship in the shade.

Psychiatrist Doctor Hayrunnisa: Hayrunnisa is an extremely successful lady who has the beauty to attract a man’s attention with ease, and attaches importance to the bonds of brotherhood and friendship. But in the therapy session, an event occures that never guessed. An event that never develops between the patient and the psychiatrist. Fuat finds himself in the Istanbul earthquake  a century ago and the common values between them come to the light. So they start an emotional rapprochement between them.

“His psychiatrist knows his inner thoughts and feelings better than anyone. He can say anything to her and she doesn’t judge him, but only seems to understand him better. He feels safe and comforted whenever he sees her. She knows just when to hand him a tissue when he’s about to cry, and they share laughs together because his sense of humor is so like his. He finds himself looking forward to sessions and even wondering what to wear. He daydreams about her and wonders if she feels the same special connection to him. Perhaps he’s become her favorite patient.” (“The Naked Lady Who Stood on Her Head: A Psychiatrist’s Stories of His Most Bizarre Cases, Gary Small, M.D.”)

Işık: Işık is the sister of Psychiatrist Hayrunnisa, and the girlfriend of Tolga. She is working her sister’s therapy center. It can not be said that she has much to do with work. A girl who always sticks with her friends and goes to the cinema, who is the number one in hair and nail care, and who cares much about her personal care and appearance.
