Marginalization of minority ethnic groups especially the immigrants coming to a white dominated protestant united states have been continuing for a long time now. Individuals who are marginalized are pushed beyond the edges of the society. This marginalization of people centers around preventing the immigrants from engaging in political, economic or political activities that help people in transitioning to modernity. The term marginalization has been recently been replaced by the term exclusion. The term can be seen as a synonym to extreme poverty or even social exclusion. In most human groupings, there are "in-groups" and "out-groups". From the universe of a youngsters' play area to the perplexing structures of a company, from the substances of a substantial family to those of religious foundations, a few people are "in" and a few people are "out". In the not very distant past in North America, dark individuals were not permitted to utilize an indistinguishable restrooms from white individuals. Somewhere else untouchables were ousted.  “Snow” explains what an immigrant child goes through in a new environment. They need to be taught separately from others due to their difficulty in mastering the English language. They are marginalized due to their inability to keep pace with other as they cannot fully understand what the teacher is talking about due to language barrier. Being in a new environment also tends to confuse children as they get to interact with things they have never seen before like snow.

 “The secret lion” shows how people are marginalized in certain parts of the country. Children are not supposed to go to the other side of the highway to arroyo.

 “New York Day Woman” gives a unique insight regarding the state of marginalization of the black-Americans. According to the story given is that the woman does not want to walk in the subway because they do not want to find the black preachers cursing black women for straightening their hair. It states how the outsiders are treated in an inhuman manner. It gives an example of how a person kicks an outsider with a car and gets furious and kicks him again for getting his car dirty with blood.

“Sonny's Blue” is a story where the narrator paints a picture of a bad relationship between two brothers. They are later brought together by the talents of Sonny (Baldwin, James 1).
