The American culture is one of those cultures that require careful attention to be able to define its outlines as well as having relevant meaning in agreement with what is the reality. Just like many other cultures in the world that have maintained the traditions, the American culture has not lost grasp within the period of transition. American culture is not necessarily a definition by law or decided according to the authority that is in charge. The behavior in that manner produces that the character of a person or the society. A culture does not reflect what the law says, but what the traditions provide. For example, the case of homosexuality happened to be disobeying the law and not morally correct for some people to practice. However, American culture continues to excuse the behavior every day and lacks the right to have it condemned in accordance with the law. In simple, the culture is based on the beliefs and not what people tend to apply as law or regulations in their everyday applications. That is the reason for having such practices not necessarily provided by the law but the American culture.
The available social institutions in American culture reflect a reason behind the nature and behavior of the people. It is evident that the existing social institutions in American culture have a stronger sense of individualism in the culture than the sense of community working. The American individualist culture fostered by the institution offers individual benefits and avoids upholding the community beliefs under one accord. It may be the reason there exist such huge gaps between the class of people that is the poor and the rich, a factor that is present in the Korean culture that overlooks community perspective. Also in the American culture, things seem to move a bit slower other than what I have experienced in Korea in everyday life, starting from handling the paperwork to simple package delivery. It could show that in the United States there is less teamwork as provided in South Korea.
Korean culture is much more of a different culture from the American culture given even the difference in its practices that differs from each of the two cultures. Having to be raised up in Korean culture, I can vouch for it of being a beneficial aspect in my life and contributed more deeply in building my character and what I stand to believe in every day of my life. Our culture believes in the sense of community development away from the individualism practice of the United States. It has helped to impact my life through the association with others in our everyday interactions as one community. My childhood was a community affair from where I learned on how to relate and share with other people on different dimensions of life. The sense of living as a community has helped me to maneuver through the foreign land under the friendly association with people from other cultures. Away from being self-reliant, it has been of great help through my studies receiving assistance from other students and learned good morals of existing with others as brothers and sisters. All because the culture taught us on how to develop the sense of community away from individualism. Korean culture has impacted more beneficial and gains to my life and of all facilitating me to develop a moral character. Absolute elderly respect is the tenet of my society that I have decided to reject from Korean culture. Absolute elderly respect makes no sense to me because respect is a feeling which should be earned by setting a model figure. I find it awkward to continue sticking to the old fashion of Korean culture and instead I have embraced the western styles where everyone is equal. However, from the early childhood practice and teachings, I have not opposed my cultural practice in favor of Western culture and instead incorporate few aspects of the American culture as I continue maintaining the majority of the beliefs from my culture every day. It is through weighing different aspects and their relevance I have taken in to conform to the standards of my society and traditions.
According to Benedict’s view on the culture, perspective is that observers should not base a consideration of their own beliefs or practices while reflecting on the culture of other people. Taking into consideration, the aspects provided by one’s culture, it is not worthy or does not make it acceptable to apply such instincts while assessing the culture of other people. Looking back, the arrangements of one’s culture are important factors that have seen the best part of that person or the observer's behavior. The values of the observer allow integrating the condition of certain practice. For example, the view of homosexuality without the inclusion and imposition of the observer's values would give it go ahead mark since the culture makes an excuse for such practice even if the law is against the undertaking. It is important to have the imposition of the observer's value in observing the arrangements of other culture to avoid relative toxic initiation towards discovering what is best for that practice. Observer’s values also allow a less influenced opinion and limit biased towards making an observation to apply the arrangements of the culture. However, viewing the practice, it is wise to have them classified as slavery because they tend to tie one to the beliefs that might not be the reality or correct. The cultural practices will not generate an agreement on any of the arrangements by the parties but instead, requires the people to follow the guidelines and conditions. Such an act resonates as slavery as people do not have to perform or give their view before that consideration.
According to Benedict’s view of human nature, it is that the values of the people are based and situated in agreement with the influence that the culture defines. It means that the cultural arrangements and beliefs are guides to human character and not anything else. However, on his part, Hobbes’s identifies that human nature resonates the existing of guiding authority like law and the rights of human being. Hobbes’s differs with Benedict on the view that human nature is defined by the law existing and in case there is no law at that particular moment the people’s right define their nature away from what the cultural belief applies to define. It is differential in that the law is more purposely respected to condition a normal situation other than the cultural beliefs that might produce some abnormal conditions. Hobbes’s considers political authority as the factor serving as a natural condition while expressing the behavior of the people in a given setting or group of people. However, according to Benedict, the cultural aspect resembles the aspect of people beliefs and practices that guide their way of functioning and relation to other instances. Both the two different identifications by the author’s, they give rise to what people act or do as supposed to get followed in their activities and livelihood. It is the practice of the people and what they need to conform to whatever culture they have in mind to practice.
