Young Adult Aid Center of Support
This program, called “Young Adult Aid Center of Support” would help young adult to transition from jail or prison into the community, for the staff will help them with their mental health problems where they find themselves a hard time fighting the obstacles that they encounter. Also, this center will work with “Vera Institute of Youth Justice” because, people help restore the juvenile system so young people can learn from the program and to shape out their path.
The program is eligible to any race, for both females and males between the ages of 14 to 26 but they would need to have at least a good conduct or the staff can help them control the emotions that they hold inside. In addition, this program mission is to help the juveniles get back into school so they can have a bright future and everything back. I chose this group because the young adults don’t have the motivation that would help them look forward and put aside the bad memories that they experience during their time in jail or prison. Also, this program is good for those juveniles who recently got released from jail because they have a place where to go and be provided with programs that would help them along their road. In addition, we would get help from “The Vera Institute of Youth Justice,” will help some juveniles receive education who are still serving in jail or prison so they can have a better future and young adults who are from ages 18-26 years can get help on finding an employment, for they can help them on how to present themselves. These programs will help young adults to comfort any obstacles that are coming across their path and to not commit convictions again. Juveniles and young adult would have a commitment to 1-3 years, for it will depend on how much help they would need and how much progress they need. The goal of “Young Adult Aid Center of Support” is to help juveniles and young adults to have a recovery from their mental health problems, for we would work on their anti-social behavior so they can have a good relationship with their family and to have a positive attitude. Also, we would focus on their education, for the young adults can have an employment that they would like and not to return into their criminal ways. This program will have mentors that would help young adults get through their bad memories that they experienced and to share their stories so they can be motivated and to learn how they survived. According to Weinwrath (2016), “Studies show that mentorship reduces likelihood of offending and produces other positive outcomes for youth, but it is not always clear why and the effects are not as robust as is desirable” (p. 297) Mentors are great influence to the young adults just as the quote states and this builds them a strong relationship, since it helps the mentor intervene when the young adults are at risk for getting in trouble again. We want these young adults to go back into the community with a better future for themselves, having a good relationship with their family and to be in a better state with their mental health problem.
This program is beneficial to the young adults because it helps them transition easily back into the community and being able to not relapse into their mental health, for it might take a while to get them in shape but they will succeed if they meet their goals. While being incarcerated, juveniles aren’t receiving a good treatment that would help their mental health problem as it can get worse threw time if not treated correctly. According to Davis et al. (2009), “Discovered females receiving care in the community mental health system were arrested at younger ages and more frequently than girls not receiving mental health treatment.” This shows that female juveniles would receive the correct treatment in our program, will have exercises that can help them on their antisocial behavior and receive an education so they can be more open or friendly. Our medical staff would meet 2 times a month so they can receive additional help on how to assist their patients and to have a bond with each other. Their credentials will have to be 3-5 years medically trained, educational training and a psychology degree with young adults. The young adults are the most important priority because after they come out of jail or prison, for they encounter difficulties as they have poor outcomes from being in there and don’t know where to go after. In addition, these young adults need some support so they won’t fall back into their negative ways and would need to be heard so we have design the program in a much better state. According to Dawes (2011); Day (2011), “The broader service system is required to identify and respond to a series of risk and protective factors if young people’s crimes and other risky behaviors are to be curbed, and if more positive and sustainable outcomes to be achieved (p. 329). This is why young adults are eligible for this program because we can help them to be more open to the society and proving them aid in managing their mental health problems. We want young adults to rebuild their important connection with the community and families because if they are apart from them it can lead to a conflict where they can relapse again. In addition, young people engaged with the communities can be a great factor which would be good for their needs and mental health problems. Incarceration had been a limited positive influence to the young adults and this can lead to a negative impact because they don’t have the support that they need. The “Young Adult Aid Center of Support” is a great opportunity for helping young adults with mental health problems and assist them with transitioning from jail or prison into the community. This program for young adults and some juveniles would start off small but will become a bigger program if it succeeds so young people can continue on with their life. In addition, they will receive treatment for mental health problems and to be active with their families or the community, for we would work with “The Vera Institute of Justice” so some juveniles can keep on with their education and succeed. On this program, every young adult will take a step by step as it won’t be an easy process, but they will learn about how to break the barriers from the jail or prison. The money that’s given to this program would be used for a great purpose like a medical treatment to young adults with mild or severe conditions, on education materials like textbooks, notebooks, etc., so they won’t go back into their criminal activities. According to Lockwood and Nally (2017), “Incarcerated young adults have a high likelihood of continuous involvement with the criminal justice system due to their educational deficiency or lack of employment skills.” This shows that young adults don’t get the support that they need from someone so they can continue with their studies, for there’s a high percentage that shows young adults get incarcerated again. This program needs the funding of $250,000 because we need to assist those young adults who seeking for help and helping them to transition back into the community. On the other hand, 15 to 24 of our staff members would be paid from the money funded and the money will help the program running so the young adults can be helped with their mental health problems and more.
In conclusion, the city needs this kind of program because it’s a great opportunity for young adults to accomplish their goals and to have a healthy social life with their families or communities. Also, the mission is to help them continue on with their studies so they can succeed and have positive outcomes from the help of our staff members or mentors. The money provided would be a great chance for the “Young Adult Aid of Support” to become a part the community because this won’t be like anything else but unique, for the young adults would be part of an amazing journey. They will learn many new things that no one provided them with and to be able to comfort with any obstacles so they won’t go back into the crimes.
