The Renaissance

The term “renaissance” came from the French word meaning rebirth. It is used to describe the phase of European history because many of the changes happened during the Middle Ages. It has been characterized by a surge of interest in learning and classical values. Renaissance Humanism is the investigation of the traditional vestige, at first in Italy and afterward spreading crosswise over Western Europe in the fourteenth, fifteenth, and sixteenth hundreds of years. Renaissance Humanism was a reaction to the useful approach and what came to be described as the "restricted exactness" related with medieval scholasticism.

To begin with, Humanism developed as a reaction to the rigid and narrow teachings of medieval Scholasticism, which promoted the education of a small portion of the population in preparation for becoming doctors, lawyers, or theologians. Humanism was an outlook or system of thought attaching prime importance to human rather than divine or supernatural matters.

In Comparison, documents 5, and 8 are really similar to each other. In Document 5 there are examples of scientific revolution and Italian Renaissance. Scientists announced that the sun was the center of the solar system.  In document 8 scientists began to observe the world and try to develop the ideas about why things happen. They thought God had nothing to do with anything happening. Due to the fact that nothing they’ve researched was connected to God. Thanks to this statement individuals impacted, and the society people were losing faith in God.  

To continue, Petrarch, studied the works of the Romans and Ancient Greeks for inspiration and ideology, mixing the philosophies of Plato and other ancient thinkers with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. Under the influence of the literature, humanists, and the arts climbed to new levels of importance. Petrarch influenced the renaissance by his books, he made more achievements to Christian philosophy. Petrarch (1304-1374) and Giovanni Boccaccio (1313-1375) looked back to ancient Greece and Rome and sought to revive the languages, values and intellectual traditions of those cultures after the long period of stagnation that had followed the fall of the Roman Empire in the sixth century. He is also considered one of the fathers of the modern Italian language. He inspired humanist. He was considered the "Father of Humanism," a philosophy that helped spark the Renaissance. “Humanism downplayed religious and secular dogma and instead attached the greatest importance to the dignity and worth of the individual.”

Moving forward, in Document # 2 it mentions the art that was constructed during the Renaissance era. The renaissance men believed that the art was not stable and that it should be more creative. The art of Renaissance 1400-1475 examines light, color, and the space used by the Greeks and Roman Artist. They created a new, and modern art. The artist from the medieval period was different from the Renaissance period. The medieval period painted religious art, and the human body, they were realistic paintings and sculptures. they came to known as realism. One of the famous artists was Masaccio, who painted religious themes. Some of his painting is about the saints, who wore people clothes and had natural expressions. The artwork of early Renaissance was about people in their everyday activities. This represents the Italian Renaissance because in document # 2 shows more about religion. Document #9 Leonardo da Vinci studied the anatomy of the human body. He studied human corpses and the structure, functions of the human body. He wanted to learn about the body, he studied human corpses. He was interested in the structure, and function of the body. This can be compared to document #2 because the artist was painting the human figures in painting and sculpturer based on what they do. Document # 9 is the scientific revolution because Leonardo da Vinci was trying corpses to get a better understanding of the human function, and structure. Individuals represented the idea of Humanism because in Document #2 realistic expression. In document #9, it represented the idea of humanism because Leonardo da Vinci studied the human body and its function, therefore, his art would be illustrated better, and so they both by this act impacted the society.  In the renaissance time period was a movement in art, art has changed to be more modern in which a lot of their art was religious also because during the renaissance era religion was a big topic during that time period.

Document #9 is the scientific revolution because Leonardo da Vinci was trying corpses to get a better understanding of the human function, and structure. Individuals represented the idea of Humanism because in Document #2 realistic expression. In document #9, it represented the idea of humanism because Leonardo da Vinci studied the human body and its function, therefore, his art would be illustrated better, and so they both by this act impacted the society. Leonardo da Vinci is perhaps the most famous figure of the Renaissance. Many consider da Vinci to be the epitome of the “Renaissance man” a Renaissance polymath, someone whose intellectual achievements and interests span a wide variety of fields in art, science, and literature.  A “Renaissance Man” is someone who is able to do a little bit of everything. In many ways, Leonardo da Vinci reflects the fundamental components of the Renaissance, as his interests spanned the fields of art, architecture, music, science, mathematics, anatomy, geology, and botany. Leonardo da Vinci studied and dabbled in an extraordinary number of intellectual and artistic branches. Along with Leonardo da Vinci other Renaissance figures such as Michelangelo, Galileo Galileo, and Copernicus are considered to embody the qualities and characteristics of a classic Renaissance man. At the age of 15, Leonardo was showing that he was a great painter. During that time Leonardo created one of his most famous artworks The Last Supper. Later in his career, he became a journalist in which he would write down his observations, and findings.

In Document 4, Martin Luther was very religious. “Martin Luther, O.S.A., was a German professor of theology, composer, priest, monk, and a seminal figure in the Protestant Reformation.” He noticed that people were saved not by their good, but by faith. During that time  Martin Luther acknowledged that the Catholic church practice of selling indulgences, the pope told people in other to forgive people's sins if they do not pay they would not be forgiven and they would go to hell. So people paid the pope to “reduce the punishment for their sins.” People started to read the Bible and noticed that they just need to confess so God can forgive their sins. The Renaissance was an interesting era because people were reading the bible and the pope lied to them and he was taking money from people.

    Machiavelli's views revolved around the ideas that one must do anything within his power to keep the influence and power. The prince plays one of the most important roles in the dramatic developing of political in the Renaissance period and still hold a universal impact on today's politicians. However, its views point have been debating over time. Machiavelli maintains the thoughts which are the essential for the cruel to a successful leader. To those of viewpoints according to Machiavelli's thoughts are the arguments that a prince is to be clement or cruel, to be feared or loved. Those significances are appeared in his written and plays the main role in his viewpoints. The Renaissance, however, represented a dramatic transformation from the Medieval outlook. Secularism humanism and individualism were three aspects of life that appeared in the Renaissance and each of those three aspects had a great impact on the political structure of the era. The Renaissance was the period following the Middle Ages in Europe saw a great revival of interest in the classical learning and values of ancient Greece and Rome. Against a backdrop of political stability and growing prosperity, the development of new technologies including the printing press, a new system of astronomy and the discovery and exploration of new continents was accompanied by a flowering of philosophy, literature and especially art. The style of painting, sculpture and decorative arts identified with the Renaissance emerged in Italy in the late 14th century; it reached its zenith in the late 15th and early 16th centuries, in the work of Italian masters such as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael. In addition to its expression of classical Greco-Roman traditions, Renaissance art sought to capture the experience of the individual and the beauty and mystery of the natural world.

 To conclude the renaissance era was spawned by the birth of the philosophy of humanism, which emphasized the importance of individual achievement in a wide range of fields. The Renaissance was an era of movement, improvement, Italian  Renaissance, Scientific Revolution, and Protestant Reformation.
