The participants were excused by the researchers during their free time and was interviewed with the prepared question while being recorded.

There were a few conflicts regarding the schedule of both the researchers and the participants because of the availability of both sides. It was a difficult and hassle week for both however, the researchers were able to finish in time and the researchers were able to gather the necessary information and data needed from the interviewed participants.

Phase III. Processing of data and analysis

In the processing and the analysis of data, the researchers transcribed the data from the recorded interview from the Emic, or the raw transcription of the data and the Etic, or the reinterpreted and sorted data. In the emic data, it includes the fillers and the researchers let the participant speak the language they feel comfortable with the most. Although, the researchers translated them to English in the Etic data or transcription. Every word spoken by the participant has to be registered in the emic to ensure the validity of the information.

Furthermore, after the transcription of the researchers, the researchers examined the information and come up with the analysis based on the following. (1) Relevance to the researchers gathered from the other media, (2) the correlation in the answers of the different participants, (3) new information gathered from the participants. The researchers came up with a conclusion on how they choose to aspire a career they want or a career that rather help their family. It also helps them for planning and facing future.

DATA GATHERING & ETHICAL CONSIDERATION

The researchers conducted or made use of semi-structured interview with prepared questions that was formulated prior to the day of the actual interview. The interview involved a chosen set of participants from the grade 10 level based on their career preferences.

The interviews were recorded by the researchers to be analyzed and examined to see the different factors and influences on career preference of grade 10 Philippine School Doha students of school year 2017-2018.

MODE OF ANALYSIS

The qualitative type of research method used by the researchers was a phenomenological study which helped and aided the researchers in the gathering and obtaining the data and information needed

Phenomenology as stated by Patton (1990), a phenomenological study is one that focused on descriptions of what people experience and how it is that they experience what they experience. One can employ a general phenomenological perspective to elucidate the importance of using methods that capture people's experience of the world without conducting a phenomenological study that focuses on the essence of shared experience. He explained on how this method captures people’s experiences of the world and things in our everyday lives.

The research data was correlated from the information gathered through the documented semi-structured interviews, mode of analysis, and the conclusions based on the response of the different participants of the grade 10 level of the Junior High School Department.

CHAPTER IV

PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS, AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

This chapter illustrates the analysis of the data gathered by examining through illustrations. The data were interpreted to identify, discuss and examine the influences that affect the Grade 10 students in Philippine School Doha. Data were applied from the interview completed by the 5 participants.

RESULTS

MOST INFLUENTIAL THAT AFFECTS THE STUDENTS

Figure 2 indicates the influences that affected the participants the most. All of the three (3) participants are influenced by the parents/family. Only one participant is influenced by a teacher, and the last participant said that no one influences him. These influences were affected the most by the participants in choosing their preferred career choice.

The researchers also asked the participants to what influence them to choose their career preference. Based from the interview, two students still say that their parents influence them.

Participant 3 said that he was inspired by other people and that he chose a career that he inspires.

Participant 4 said that because of her specialization in TLE (drafting) she decides to choose architect as her preferred career.

Lastly, participant 5 said that it’s because that’s what she really wanted. It was her personal choice even from the start that’s why she decided on her preferred career that she really wanted.

Figure 2. Most Influential that Affects the Students

INFLUENCE OF FINANCIAL AND ECONOMIC BACKGROUND

Financial and economic background can really influence the students’ decision too, depends if they could afford that kind of career without any struggles or problems on the status of their family.

As shown in figure 3, it shows the decision of the participants if they will still continue pursuing their preferred career or they will find a career that can help their family. Three of the participants said that they will still pursue their chosen career preference. Other two said that they will find a career that is affordable and can help their family.

Still pursue with their career   Find a career that can help their family

Figure 3. Influence of Financial and Economic Background

Based on the answers of the participants, the participants’ decisions are depending on their financial status. It varies depending on their financial and economic status of their family whether they are economically challenged or financially stable. The participants would rather still pursue their own career if they are financially stable, and the other participants would rather find and choose a career than can help their family, in some cases the participants would rather would choose their own career choice and still help their family at the same time. However, they were answering hesitantly due to the question being related to family and financial background.

PARENTAL INFLUENCES

Parental influences can also influence the students’ preferred career choice. Parents can greatly affect the students’ preferred career choice since they can tell them to choose, avoid, etc. a certain career.

As show in figure 4, with the support they are giving to the student, the student will continue on pursuing a certain career that they want or in a way the parents can contribute to the change of decision the student will have, be it continue on pursuing the career they want or a career they decided to take instead.

Figure 4. Parental Influences

Based on the answers of the participants, the participants’ parents were all supportive on the students’ preferred career choice. It can greatly affect the student’s decision whether they support the student on their decision or not. All of the students’ parents were all supportive so they we’re all going for the career they really wanted from the start and they were able to explore different options and was able to conclude a career they really want.

STUDENTS’ CAREER CHOICE CONCLUSION

The students’ conclusion of his/her own career choice is an important stage they will go through since that will be the time the students will choose a career that they will have for a long period of time.

As shown in figure 5, the students will choose a career they want depending on the influences that affected their decision. The different influences are important in this part due to it affecting the students’ career choice and more. The three of the participants are already sure of the career they want despite all the different influences. However, two of the participants are still unsure of the career they want to pursue.

Figure 5. Students’ Career Choice Conclusion

Based on the answers of the participants, the majority of the participants are already sure of the career they want to pursue and the rest of the participants are still unsure of the career they want to pursue. Even though the participants are affected by the different influences they were still able to conclude an idea of a career they want, although the other participants are still unsure because of the different influences affecting them, making them confused and have a harder time in concluding a career they really want to pursue.

CHAPTER V

SUMMARY, FINDINGS, CONCLUSIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter shows the summary and conclusions of the research study. Furthermore, the researchers also included recommendations that were composed to the results of the study.

Summary

This research was done to recognize on how these factors will affect the choice of the participants. This research was done to answer the following questions:

1) What influences Grade 10 students in choosing their career?

2) How do the following affect the decisions of the Grade 10 PSD students in terms of the following:

a) Parents’ Choice

b) Peer Influence

c) Financial Status

d) Environment

e) Students’ Personal Choice

3) What are the proper guidelines in the right career preferences of the Grade 10 students?

FINDINGS

1. The grade 10 students were greatly influenced by the different influences be it parents’ choice, peer influence, financial status, environment, and students’ personal choice. By knowing their own self abilities and skills that can help them decide the preferred career for them.

2. Financial Status, environment, and students’ personal decision influenced students the most and it affects the decision of the Grade 10 students.

3. Students must know their strengths and capabilities to know what will be their preferred career. Moreover, students need to achieve their goal, even though there are a lot of obstacles, students must be strong in order to pass through these obstacles.

CONCLUSIONS

Based from the findings, the following conclusions were shown:

1. The researchers concluded that even though there are different factors that influences the students, the students still need to follow more on their abilities and skills because it helps the students more to decide their preferred career easily.

2. The major aspects that influences the students greatly affects the decision of the students.

3. The researchers concluded that parents’ choice didn’t affect the decision of the students, instead the parents supports their children more than they are the one who decides the career for their children.

4. Peer influences didn’t affect the students also, they support and give motivation to them in whatever the students preferred career will be.

5. The researchers concluded that the proper guideline in order to decide what their preferred career will be is to fulfill your dreams, goals, or hobbies. If that’s what the students want and love to do, they must continue it and work hard for it in order to know your preferred career.

Recommendations

Based on the findings and conclusions made, the researchers recommend the following:

1. The researchers recommend to add more participants/subjects in order to get more information for this study.

2. The researchers recommend that the students should not follow more on other people or other aspects that influences them, instead they must follow more on their aspirations and goals to achieve their preferred career.

3. The researchers recommend to choose or decide their career preference more carefully to avoid any problems or dissatisfaction if ever the students choose the wrong choice of career.

4. The researchers recommend, since there was only limited time given, to conduct this study longer to gain more details and information for this study about influences on career preferences of the grade 10 students.
