Are kids becoming more violent in schools? In nowadays everyone sees the violence that is shown on the media. Kids can see violence on their TV, phones, laptops, or any other device. For example, there is violence shown on Snapchat and Instagram that display videos of people fighting in different places. Kids at school became more violent because of the videos, images, shows, and movies that contain violence that is exhibited from various types of media. The more access to the media affects many children to the way think and the way the act with other people.
More access to television gives the children more access to violence images. In the past, there were not many videos or video games. Kids only watched non-violent cartoons and movies and played outside instead of video games. Now in our time, most kids watch television, play video games, and watch videos on their portable devices. Kids can watch or search anything on the internet that includes violence. A large number of the kids play video games that contain violence that is actually for older children. They would spend a great deal of their time playing those violent game and might use what they saw in games and do the same to the real world.
About 90% of the kids in the United States play video games, and over the 90% play games that contain mature content that most of the time include (Alice Park, Little by Little, Violent Video Games Make Us More Aggressive). This had caused some worries about all the violence in the video games might play out in actual reality, and have led people to tax violent video games to putting age restrictions on them. This caused the president in 2013 to convene more research on how video games that are aggressive effect children who play them. A scientist named Craig Anderson did research about how the violent video games affect children. He proved that they do
play a role in making children more aggressive and violent. Young kids always watch shows, movies, and videos on their devices or the TV. He revealed that kids who spend more time playing
the games each week show signs of an increase in aggressiveness and violence behavior, unlike others who only spend less time playing them. He asked some of the kids who were part of the research questions about would they strike their peers if they provoked them. Most of them would say yes, and sometimes think how they would hurt the person they disliked. Anderson’s response after the research was “What this study does is show that it’s media violence exposure that is teaching children and adolescents to see the world in a more aggressive kind of way,” says Anderson. “It shows very strongly that repeated exposure to violent video games can increase aggression by increasing aggressive thinking.”
There is a portion of the kids that are incapable of knowing the difference between reality and fantasy. Some children would see what is happening on their devices would be something real. Some violent movies cause kids to believe what they watch and think that’s the way the real life works. This causes children to perform crimes, get into trouble, and cause pain and chaos to someone or something. Some kids in school would commit dangerous crimes and see that its nothing and affects nobody. For example, a twenty-year-old boy named Adam Lanza killed about 25 people and injured others in 2012 because he was obsessed with how the video games he was playing was similar to life.
Sometimes the television should serve as an educator to children and help them understand and learn some facts about the world. The violence the children see on the television would educate them as if that violence is an answer, and that would make them want to become criminals. It
makes them think that they should not follow the law. This caused many children to grow up to become criminals and not follow the law. Kids now get arrested at a much younger age. Most kids
get sent to juvenile for the crimes that they committed. The violence that is being shown in the media lessens the value of life. Kids see that the value of someone’s life is nothing. They learn that
killing someone means nothing and this causes them kill anyone or someone they might dislike. They would not care if they killed someone or they might laugh about it. This would have the children not have any feelings about their actions. This tells us the that exposure to violent gaming may change the brain for some time. In 2011, there was a study that consisted of one week of video gaming each day. Each day there were brain scans of a small group of volunteers and displayed there was a decrease in emotions, attention, and inhibition of impulses compared to the other volunteers who played video games that were non-violent. The results of this study showed that long hours of playing violent video games could cause changes to the brain.
On TV, it sometimes shows to everyone that violence is a good way to solve problems. It teaches young children that they should solve their issues by pain or destruction. Many kids get into fights in schools’ cause pain to each other. They think that the fighting is a good way to solve their problems. However, they fight more violently than how kids usually fought in the past because of the violence they see. Some would use weapons to fight each other and not care how bad the person is hurt. Some would fight in secret places to make sure the adults would not find out and cause even more serious pain on each other. These kids should learn that always violence is never a good way to solve problems.
In the television, people watch violent movies or shows and see that violent crimes go without being punished. Kids watch that criminal and violent acts don’t get punished can get away
with it. This demonstrates to kids that they can do any violent acts and not get into trouble. This causes kids to do different violent acts and school and think that they will not get punished. Some
children destroy property or cause pain to other students in school. Kids begin to believe that it’s okay to commit crimes and nothing will happen. Some examples of aggressive shows are
Hannibal, Nikita, Criminal Minds, Banshee, The Following, Boardwalk Empire, Sons of Anarchy, True Blood, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones. These are some of the shows that are some of the most gruesome shows. Some of them are for people who 18 years old or older. Even though there are age restrictions for these kind of shows, adolescents still watch them secretly or freely with bad parenthood. Some violent shows present that people getting beaten up get back up unharmed. Kids are taught that violence does not hurt other people. They are taught that other people won’t be affected badly and that its okay. Some children hurt other kids and think that they did not get hurt and would not care if they say they are injured. Young students would hurt each other badly and would believe that they are not hurt at all and that it’s just like in movie or show they watched.
Kids at school became more violent because of the videos, images, shows, and movies that contain violence that is presented from different types of media. The more access to the media affects many children to the way think and the way the act with other people. The media has caused damage to the minds of young children with the violence that they have revealed to them. It is important how violent children have become in school. They are more disrespectful and disruptive than they were in the past. They are more influenced by the things they see on television and their portable devices that are mostly bad.
