Company Profile

1. Background of company:

Ringo’s Foyer Guest house is the perfect accommodations for budget and chilled out travellers who came to visit Malacca, especially foreigners. It is situated in the heart of the city which makes it more convenient for people to access anytime during the day. The hotel located in Jalan Portugis, Kampung Dua, Melaka nearby to Jonker Street, which is one of the most famous night market in Malacca. It has a modern and improved concept of dorm that is also very spacious and well maintained. Besides, the hotel provides a bicycle tour for the hotel residents so that they can have an evening activity to tour around the area. It was planned to start operation in 2006 and it was delayed due to the licensing process, thus they only managed to establish their business in early 2007. The best part is the big rooftop where people can easily make contact to other guest, play cards, barbeque, or just relaxed. The customers can do reservation via online or walk-in.

2. Nature of the business:

Ringo’s Foyer Guest house is born individually in Melaka. This is because the hotel runs as a family business, thus it has no branch in other states. Furthermore it is easier for them to maintain and manage the business as it exists as one entity. The major services provided by the business are accommodation rendering, thus the business nature would be hospitality and tourism industry. The hotels are focusing on giving travelers a safe place to stay when they have to be away from home. The lion share of the Ringo’s guesthouse hotel is it comes in low cost. The dorm that is being provided is their core product. Their uniqueness that attracts many backpackers is the cozy dorm that offers them a comfortable place to sleep rather than they had to rent the whole room. Furthermore, they had two different kind of dorm that being offered to the customer that will align with their demand. For a night, the price would start at RM40 for a basic bed to RM80 for superior bed. Considering the place is very near to town, the rates are quite reasonable and cheap compared to other hotel in that area. Next, the hotel residents will get a free delicious breakfast served by the hotel every morning. Free tea, coffee, and filtered water are always available.

3. Country Chosen and Reason:

We agreed to choose Indonesia as the country to expand our business as the country itself has a high number of tourist coming from different countries all around the world. We do believe that our business is able to adapt the Indonesian norms and culture. Besides, there is less Guesthouse hotel that available in Indonesia where we think that this going to be a huge opportunity for Ringo’s Foyer Guesthouse hotel to open a new branch there. The cost to open a new business in Indonesia is rather cheaper compared to other countries due to their low rate of currency. Next, the environment is quite similar with Malaysia, so it is easier for us to communicate with the people. Therefore, by expanding this business it can generates more profits and provide the locals there with job opportunity. Plus we have a good relationship with the Indonesian Government, so our business and the Indonesian Government can cooperate very well.

4. Mode of expansion and Reason:

The entry mode for the Ringo’s Guesthouse hotel to expand to Indonesia is wholly-owned subsidiary. Which means the business that operates overseas is totally owned and controlled by one party. This is because we want total control over the business as we believe we can be more efficient without outside partners. This mode of entry can be done in Indonesia since the fact that, the Indonesian Government welcomes the foreign direct investment in their country. By looking at the statistic, rate of inflation in Indonesia will increase by 3.7% in 2018, and expanding our business there will create and provide more jobs opportunity which subsequently might help them to overcome the inflation rate step by step. Meanwhile, Indonesia already accepts foreign company to set up a business there, for instance is “Double Tree Hilton Hotel” that originated from the states. In conjunction to what has being stated, expanding the business to Indonesia will be a perfect choice.

Industry Profile

Ringo's Foyer Guest House is a guest house which provides hospitality and lodging services. It is a type of inexpensive hotel-like lodging. In addition, it is a private home which has been converted for the exclusive use of guest accommodation. The hospitality industry is an industry that focuses on customer satisfaction. The physical products of hospitality such as food and drink in a restaurant or the actual hotel room, are products that are sold at a price to the guests. These are often regarded as the tangible aspects of hospitality. A successful hospitality business does not only count on its products and services, but also how they are delivered. The qualities of staff and the way they deliver the service are often more important than the tangible products in making a hospitality experience satisfactory or unsatisfactory. These are the intangible aspects of hospitality.

Besides that, the hospitality industry is additional fields within the tourism industry. People who travel from house for more than a day need lodging for sleep, rest, food, safety, shelter from cold temperatures or rain, storage of luggage and access to common household functions. A manager in the hospitality industry must keep in mind that the objectives are making the guests feel welcome personally, making things work for the guests and making sure that the operation will continue to provide service and meet its budget.

Indonesia political

Indonesian politics has been rocked by two major developments in recent months, both involving the governor of Indonesia’s capital and most important city, Jakarta. The first came on April 19, when the sitting governor, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama better known by his nickname “Ahok” was decisively defeated in a gubernatorial election. Ahok’s defeat is surprising given his general popularity among Jakarta voters, with an astonishing 76 percent of voters approving of his record of office.

The second came several weeks later, when courts sentenced Ahok to two years in prison for blasphemy for comments he made in a speech referencing a verse in the Koran that some Muslims believe forbids them from voting for a non-Muslim politician. Indonesian law protects freedom of religion and religious expression, but makes blasphemy illegal as a threat to public order and religious values. Ahok’s opponents used doctored recordings of these comments to make the case that he had insulted Islam.

But far more attention has been paid to religious discourse. Ahok’s opponent, the new governor-elect Anies Baswedan, courted the Muslim vote, exploiting and nurturing the sentiment among Jakarta’s Muslim voters that, indeed, Muslims could not vote for a Christian. He also appeared before the Islamic Defenders Front, a hard-line Islamist group, in a move seen as allying himself with more radical streams in Indonesian Islam. For a politician such as Anies with a reputation as a moderate Muslim, this was a meaningful shift.

The Jakarta election and Ahok’s blasphemy case are therefore interpreted by many as two “tests” of Indonesia’s democracy. For many who look to Indonesia as a standard-bearer for contemporary Muslim democracy, the results have been disappointing. Scholars of Indonesian politics have interpreted these events through two frameworks: one based on class and another on identity. Ahok undone primarily because of his religion or ethnicity, or because of his perceived indifference to the plight of Jakarta’s urban poor. Some early survey-based research suggested that Ahok would suffer because of his Chinese heritage, but more recent research targeting the large segment of voters who supported Ahok’s performance in office but voted against him anyway finds that religious motivations drove their decisions.

Impact

The spread of terrorist groups throughout the world, and what seems to be the major threats to tourism. The Ringos guest house must learn to create not merely security and safety but “surety” the interaction between the two. That means that locations without TOPPs the tourism policing programs will suffer and eventually decline. Private security and public security will need to learn to interact and work well not only with each other but with the media and marketers. The old and outdated adage that security scares visitors is more and more being replaced with the adage that the lack of security provokes fear among visitors. Cyber-crime will continue to be another major challenge the travel industry faces. Tourism cannot merely hobble from pandemics and health crisis to the next. The travel and tourism industry can protect visitor privacy and lower the incidents of fraud, it will face an ever greater and daunting challenge.

The world tourism suffers from poor infrastructure. These infrastructure challenges range from substandard docks and ports of entry to modes of transport to urban infrastructure such as access roads, electricity, water supply, sewerage and telecommunication. The lack of
