The word immigration is defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary as “specifically: travel into a country for the purpose of permanent residence there.” (Webster). Immigration has become one big contradictory issue everywhere in the world, but mostly in the United States. Since the United States might be known for being the best place to migrate due to its history of being the dream land and the place in which you will have a better chance of living. Many people from other countries seek coming to the United States because their home countries do not offer them that safety and good future. Immigrants from low income countries are seeking a new start, the United States is known for helping Americans have promising futures, and immigrants feel how if they get to live in the United States, their lives will become better. Immigration should be accepted with strict requirements to follow and be legally approved.

Most of the immigrants goal is to work at any job, they just want to be able to offer a better future for their families. Even if they have to work illegally they have that desire of working and grow as a person. There are different cases in which you can see how just men seek their way in the United States, or woman or even families send and risk their kids to go in the United States. Many families do this because they are not able to offer a healthy lifestyle for their kids. Sine the United States discloses how they are a free land, safe and with lots of benefits immigrants want to find their way in. In 2016 it was informed by the Migration Policy institute that there were about “42.4 million, or 13.3 percent.”(Zong, Barlova)  immigrants residing in the United States. Every year the amount of immigrants getting in the United States increase.

The United States has been always a land in which many people immigrate to. About 12,000 years ago people started to immigrate to the United States (Sutori). In the 1790’s it was known the the United States was made up of many diverse cultures, in this year a census was made to know how many people were residing in the country and where did they come from. Most of the people that were residing in the country were Europeans, from a population of 3.9 million, 65% were British descendants and over 19% came from Africa (Sutori). The other leftover percentage were mostly French or were not from any country and had Jewish descendants.  This same year during President Washington presidency he attempted to set up a control over immigrants. It was with the Naturalization Act, “Naturalization was limited to immigrants who were free white persons of good moral character who had lived in the United States for two years.”(Sutori).  Those who were African Americans, servants and slaves were excluded from having the opportunity of getting their citizenship. As years went by, the number of immigrants trying to reside in the United States just doubled, increasing the population in the country. It was not that late when anti migration movements were created and held around the United States. By the 1850’s , the first anti immigration movement was created. Everyone saw how immigration was increasing in their country and they wanted to stop this. Up to date, there will always be a group of people that will not accept immigrants in the United States.

On October 13th 2018, a caravan of migrants from Honduras was formed. They started their journey from San Pedro Sula a city in Honduras with the goal of getting inside the United States and asking for asylum. More than a thousand of immigrants are on their way walking to the United States with several members of their families from kids to elder people. A woman named Karen Martinez from the Non Governmental Organization for Human Rights, warned the people from the caravan the risks they could over see in their long journey. She said “You are leaving due to the bad administration of our country, if they have given you education, health and security there would be no need of leaving the country.”(Martinez).  The lack of jobs in Honduras are causing Hondurans to want to go to another place where they will have a better job opportunity and they will be able to grow as a professional.

This Honduran caravan is already facing several problems in their long journey. Guatemala, one of the countries this caravan had to go through was first against this caravan getting inside their territory and president Trump administration asked Guatemala to not let them in and try to man them stop and go back to their home country. At the end Guatemala decided to let them in, they even gave them a place to sleep and some of the Guatemalan families offered to give them food. Guatemalan government stated that they will only let them in if they  met they legar requirements. The government gave a notice that the immigration code states how there is a right to migrate  as long as the national and international legislation to which Guatemala is part of, is respected and complied with (Huffington Post). As of Guatemala, Mexicos Chiapas governor said that he will humbly let the Honduran caravan cross over Mexico.

Since Honduras receives aid from the United States government, president Trump is aware of the amount of people that could get into the United States legally if they have all the legal documents and illegally if they are not able to present the required documents. On CNN news Catherine Shoichet informs how President Trump “has already weighed in, threatening to cut foreign aid to Honduras if the group isn't brought back to the Central American country.”(Shoichet).  It is said that President Trump has had a word already with president Juan Orlando Hernandez from Honduras. President Juan Orlando Hernandez talked to the new in Honduras and asked all the people from the caravan to please go back to Honduran territory, and not to lend themselves for political games since president Trump had already threaten to take every aid away from Honduras(El Heraldo).

There is an understandable reason why the American government do not want more immigrants in their country. Since it might be obvious in the eyes of many Americans that this immigrants want to take away their jobs, opportunities and privileges. There is a vast population living in the United States and allowing this large amount of immigrants is increasing the population. In a Honduran newspaper, they published a news of Chargé Heide Fulton asking the migrants to go back to their country since “they are being deceived with false promises on behalf of leaders with political and criminal ends. They do not care about your safety and well-being”(ElHeraldo) this was a video published in her Twitter account. She then stated how she and the American government know the reality of what Honduran people undergo with the poverty of their country and how they are investing millions of dollars in Honduras to be able to help fight poverty, education and economic opportunities of the country (ElHeraldo). Even middle class and high class people from Honduras find their ways to leave the country due to the unsafely and incredible obvious corruption ruling the county, how can low income people not want to try and do the same. Low income people in Honduras are the more affected, without proper education they do not see themselves growing successfully. There is nothing the American Government can do more to help Honduras if the Honduran government does not start to worry about what is going on inside their country and stoping the corruption they have. Governments ought to grow better laws for immigrants by offering equal rights in order for them to stay in America territory, this will ensure and permit individuals to begin their lives again legally. They all deserve a chance to fight for a better future and if a government is not seeing any growth in the immigrants they allowed to stay in the country it is ok to force them to leave the country since they are not offering anything good for the growth of the country.
