Advantages and Barriers
There are plenty of examples I could have used but one that I found very interesting happened to be a bowling a alley. Bowlero help provide a safe and fun environment for people who have a disabilities. The bowling alley was located in the dolphin mall which you would have to use an elevator or stairs in order to bowl. I thought that was a great idea to implement stairs because it makes traveling from the first floor to the bowling alley which is on the second floor much easier. The area itself is very roomy and sizable for people that are wheelchair or walker bound. The policy for the bowling states that if a person happens to be blind and a emergency occurs there will be an emergency alarm that would trigger an intercom. In a situation like that there a guides and signs posted throughout the bowling alley to help give assistance to find either the restroom, exit, or the front desk. I noticed as I walked around the facility the area was very well kept and fulfill the Americans with disability act.
There were not as many cons however, the area where the couches and tables were happened to be very little space which caused conflict because it made it difficult for my cousin that is wheelchair bound to eat the food the waiter had placed on the table. Even though my cousin didn’t make a big deal about it I know it made him feel uncomfortable just because he had to depend on someone else to pass him his food because he couldn’t reach and get it on his own due to the couch being in his way. Even though the couches were comfortable they were a big problem just because they took up so much space I feel as if they should have been a different size accommodated for people that are wheelchair bound. Also, I noticed that the hand wash section in the bathroom could be reached a lot easier.
Accessibility Recommendations
One way you could assist the ADA law and also help the facility grow and be a lot more safe for people that have disabilities is by adding ramps to help prevent accidents such as slipping or even falling due to the fact the ramps are nonslip. Entrances can be labeled to help guide to the closet exit. A door that opens with a push of a button would be very helpful to the ones that are wheelchair bound or even needs the assurance of crutches. Added to this should be a automatic door that shuts within a few seconds. Lastly, the couches could be removed in a few sections depending on if the person that is being seated has a wheelchair to allow them to be a lot more independent. The tables could be lifted a about two feet = 24 inches. As discussed earlier the hand washers could be more accessible.
Global Review of disability and Accessibility
The ADA has empowered today’s generation and society immensely. The act has given people with disabilities the same amount of rights as any other person, it has help allow society to embrace instead of isolate or look at them differently. It has showed many people that even though they may not walk like everyone there mind and character is what defines them as a person. The movie that was played in classed was called the Music Within a character had a disability called Cerabral Palsy his name was Art. Art went out to eat with one his friend named Richard as they got to the place to eat the realized that there was no ramp and Richard had to help bring Art because there were only stairs and no ramp. Art and Richard both didn’t not get proper service because of Art’s appearance and his voice. The person that was suppose to served them actually said she didn’t want to assist them because he didn’t “appear normal” which I felt was very shallow. This is why I am so found of the American with disabilities act because it helped people that have been in situations like Art the entire lives and it allows them to speak up for what’s right. A person should not be looked at differently for how they came onto the earth they should be embraced because with different still has beauty in it.
China has many disability rights it is called LPDP which stands for “Law on the Protection off Disabled Person”. The law stands for the almost the same as the ADA such has the benifts of rehab and education and also assurance with finding decent paying jobs. One thing I noticed though is that China points out the fact that person is disable in a way that it may seem as if there is a problem with being disabled. China refers to a person that is in a wheelchair or crutches as an disable person. I feel as if that’s rude and it shows that China shines a right light on the fact if a person is disabled. Another difference I noticed is that China give pensions to the ones that served to protect there country but not to just anyone but the U.S allows everyone to obtain a pension to majority of people with disability’s. China also makes no exceptions for the disabled for even though they point out the fact that they have a disability they must still respect the law and they are very high on inclusion.
It’s no secret that the United States and China are considered one of the two biggest Country’s but they’re very similar in many ways such has there disability laws. It feels as if they have battling for the number one spot for a long time now if you actually do research you would see that China and the US both have a huge stronghold on the productivity and growth of GDP, merchandise, job employments, and etc. China has a population rate that’s growing rapidly and it’s actually causing the US educational systems to not thrive as they once did. Even though China has surpassed the US in education they are not to far behind one another that’s starts states that the United States has a score of 3 while China has a score of 2 according to (“China vs United States Education Stats Compared.” NationMaster.com.)
Overall the outcome for the survey in regards to Bowlero bowling center in China would be very similar if not identical as it would be in the United States due to the fact both country’s laws protects the rights of people that have a disability. In the Disabled person law it says in the fourth article that “Provided by the state special assistance with methods to help eliminate barriers ensuring their rights. “Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund.” NORD (National Organization for Rare Disorders)
Society should create a class that helps inform people on the way to address people with disabilities and how to treat them equally I would make it a requirement for kids at a young age. Because if you help correct a child error at a young age on how to speak properly to a person that is disabled it would be carried on all the way till there an adult but you would have to start young to show them what’s right and wrong.
Sports for the disabled has helped in multiple ways it has help allow a person that is disabled enjoy there life by being able to have basketball leagues allowing them to gain a self of confidence and independence. The beauty of watching someone enjoy a recreational sport and not feel as if they being pampered or they have any limitations is just amazing.
