THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
Introduction
The world is facing the innovative changes in technology which has a great impact in the field of education. Education is always in the process of change to meet the needs of the challenges of time. In the dawn of the information age, computer education strengthens classroom learning and instruction by providing access to information from varied sources.
The Internet, sometimes simply called the Net, is a global network connecting millions of computer. Within this network a user who has permission at any one computer can access and obtain information from any other within the network. A network is a group of computers and associated devices that are connected by communication facilities. A network can span a global area and involve permanent connections, such as cables or temporary connections made through telephone and other communication links. Local, regional, national and international networks constitute a global network. Each of their networks provides communications services and access to information.
In popular usage, social media is a computer based technology that facilitates the sharing of ideas and information and the building of virtual networks and communities. By design, social media is internet based and offers users easy electronic communication of personal information and other content, such as videos and photos.
User engage with social media via computer, tablet or smart phone via web based software or web application, often utilizing it for messaging.
The introduction of social media has changed the world in many ways. It affects each individual in different ways, today it can be used as a very helpful tool in changing a person life, but at the same time cause such conflicts which can negatively effects the academic performance of the students. Furthermore, social media may cause distraction of the students during class hours, their interests in the learning will distract by this social media. Students must have time management in when, where and how they used social media. They must have the schedule to focus one thing in a certain time before doing anything else, Although social media can help the students in different ways but they have their limitations. Neverthless, all of this usefulness of social media will cause disadvantages which can destroy the life of students in their academic performance.
Academic performance is the reliant variable of our research and is characterized the performance of student has maintained his/her academic career. Academic performance is considered up to the stamp if the student has steadily maintained GPA. Nonetheless, in the outer variables the students affect his/her academic performance such as social media usage. In light of this, our objective is to examine and observed the impact of social media on academic performance of students and to determine whether they have a positive or negative relationship.
TVL remains for Technical-Vocational-Livelihood TVL Track should plan senior secondary school understudies for school and prepared for business. Specialized Technical Vocational-Livelihood track will outfit you with work prepared abilities later on. This track additionally contributes essentially on abilities that can pick up you imperative COCs (Certificates of Competency) and NCs (National Certifications) which would be essential when looking for better career opportunities in agriculture, electronics, and trade. This is additionally vital while applying abroad where the abilities you pick up would set you up as you join the workforce. There are different TVL strands that you can take, there is Home Economics strand, Industrial Arts strand and the Information Computer Technology strand. There is 266 students overall in G12 TVL.
In this research, the researcher will attempt to discover the relationship between social media and academic performance of the students. This study may cost positively or negatively two can be utilized in the same time and place.
Theoretical Framework
Ainin et al (2015), states that the Social Learning theory basically explains how the environmental and cognitive components collaborate to affect an individual learning and behavioral pattern.
The Theory explains that Social Media has a good and bad impact in our daily lives. It is essential to people’s way of communicating and interacting on daily basis .This theory is a bridge between behaviorist and cognitive learning theories because it gives attention, motivation and memory that encompasses the learning of people. Theory posits the learning of people from one to another by observing and imitating. Social Learning Theory views learning as a social process that individuals will self-initiate, regulate learning and actively construct knowledge by acquiring, generating and structuring information. This Theory supports because Social Media has a big impact to people. Due to the addiction in Social Media it affects their academic learning that causes the personality and behavior. Social Media is the most influential part to people. Stated that social media has a negative impact on school performance, and others shows positive influence, but in the end it is failed to find the relationship at all. In addition, those who are active on social media did not have time to study. However, the
theory specifies the behavior and attitudes if we are not familiarize in the positive and negative impact of social media.
Conceptual Framework
The conceptual paradigm presented in figure 1 shows the input, process, and the expected output of the study. The inputs are composed of the profile of the respondents that are used in conducting the study. The researchers collect information about the outcome of social media to the academic performance of the respondents.
The researcher started by conducting a questionnaire to the G12 Technical Vocational students who are using social media. Second, the collected data were evaluate, After evaluating of data, data were interpret it and prepared ideas for explaining the study.
The expected output is what researcher is aim to achieve in this research. In the end of the study, Proposal of Infomercial that tackles the outcome of social media to the academic performance is expanding to boost perception and give knowledge to the students.

Statement of the Problem
This research aims to find out the Relationship between Social Media and Academic Performance of University of Batangas Grade 12 Technical Vocational students. Specifically, it sought to answer the following question:
1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of:
a. General Average
b. Regulatory of using Social Media
c. Limit of time using Social Media
2. Is there a relationship between social media and academic performance of University of Batangas Grade 12 Technical Vocational students?
3. Why is important to know the relationship between the use of social media and academic performance?
4. How does social media affects academic performance of Grade 12 students in University of Batangas?
Research Hypothesis
The following hypothesis were formulated to guide this study.
HO= There is no Relationship between Social Media and Academic performance of University of Batangas Grade 12 Technical Vocational students.
HA= There is a Relationship between Social Media and Academic Performance of University of Batangas Grade 12 Technical Vocational students.
Scope and Delimitation of the Study
This research attempts to know the Relationship of Social Media and Academic Performance of University of Batangas Grade 12 Technical Vocational students. Primarily the focus of this research is on how social media affects in the academic performance of a students.
The respondents of the study were limited just to the Grade 12 Technical Vocational students of University of Batangas for the school year 2018-2019.
Significance of the Study
This study entitled “Relationship between Social Media and Academic Performance of University of Batangas Grade 12 Technical Vocational Students†will be beneficial to the following:
Students. This study is the progress in academic performance and it will serve as investigation and observation to the learning of the students. It is also help them to maintain their grades, However, it will boost student knowledge in classifying the effects regards to their performance.
Teachers. They can understand and have a focus on how social media affects to the learning of the students. They can make a student engage actively in their studies.
Parents. May improve their relationship with students to observe there education and give proper discipline. Furthermore, they understand the role of being a partner in education.
Researchers. This study will serve as reference about the relationship of social media and to the academic performance of Grade 12 Technical Vocational students of University of Batangas. This will help them to become familiar in the topic.
Future Researchers. This study serve as basis or future resources that they can use for further development of their study. This can also be their guide in working in similar research.

Interpersonal skills-This term refers to the skills that what people use every day to communicate and interact with other people. (Internet )
ICT- This term refers to an umbrella term that includes any communication device or application, encompassing: radio, television, cellular phones, computer and network hardware and software, satellite systems and so on, as well as the various services and applications. ( Internet )
