Social media is now the way of life, with the technology going up and up over time. A lot of people rely on the social media for news, contact to friends, or just getting things off their mind. Social media also changed the way everyone gets the news and this could thus far effect the way the journalists put out the news and how people in the world receives their news. This could affect journalism or help journalism, could be many of things that benefit and affect journalism. A lot of people get the news right away from social media, that could affect journalists because they have to find the source than write about it as they were writing the article the news is already out to the public. But also it could benefit by providing news at the “tip of a finger” as the situation of event happens journalists can be right on the topic. The only problem is finding a reliable source and what is a reliable source, but if they know social media they should know that if the account is verified it should definitely be a credible source. Social media is the way everyone gets the news and how everyone contacts each other and is the way life is going to be. Journalists benefit off of social media and it helps them get the news as fast as possible and relay the news out to the public via social media or the local news channel.

Social media has dramatically changed the life of a everyday citizen in modern culture. Social media started a something that people didn’t really think it was a thing anyone needed in everyday life. People thought that they didn’t have to message anyone and could just call someone if they need them and didn’t see a use of social media. over time, people realized that social media is actually a really reliable and fast way to contact friends, or family and find out the news the second of the accident or incident happens. Social media has changed journalism in many of ways but in this writing i am going to mainly focus on the positive effects that social media has on the world and journalism. Journalists benefit greatly from social media by getting the media and news as fast as seconds after the incidents. Journalism all started without social media and all the journalists get their news from various sources thought would end up calling or the journalists would have other journalists report on the seen of the incident. Social media has had a lot of backlash from the start of all of it, social media has had a lot of people worry about their personal information being leaked to hackers and the hackers knowing everything about the people they hacked. Like the case that happened recently to Mark Zuckerberg, where he got sued for millions of dollars because of the privacy of the people and how people were noticing that hackers were getting a lot of information through people’s on account on facebook. Social media has a had a really high impact on society to this day, everyone relies so heavily on the social media like people spend every second on social media, checking it every time of the day. Its like people do not know how to meet up and speak in person anymore, like the world has dramatically changed.

Journalism is heavily benefited by social media, in many different ways, from the information, to the way they contact everyone, to how the put out the news to the public. “One of the main reason journalists check the news to mainly check the breaking news and secondly check what other news organizations do.”(Peterson,2014).  Journalists if they use social media around 53.8% use microblogs to mainly promote them self and their own work.(Peterson,2014). Journalists really can have so many reliable sources on social media that they can tell if the sources are credible and good to go through. The blue check next to a business or a person on social media means that their information is more than likely credible and reliable to use for their research and their next post/blog.  Journalism is a key role in every thing news and they need a bunch of different sources and reliable places they get their information to have a topic on the next news channel update. Social media helps journalism get all the stuff they need to know and relay all this information bac to their news branch that they work at.

Journalism widely benefits from social media, “Today, many stories are received third hand  through facebook posts or tweets or digg so that by the time a story is assigned to the reporter, the story in some form or another is already out there in the social media universe. The  reporter now has to take that into consideration and find some angle to the story that is not yet being talked about.”(Alejandro,2010). This shows that journalists benefit by adding versatility to their work and to make sure the people get the story that makes them respond in like a wow reaction. “Journalists are forced to accelerate the traditional journalistic process because people now want real time information. People want the information as soon as the journalist or the media outlet receives it”(Alejandro,2010). This risks any journalist to do more research on the topic as soon as they do that, they are too late and everyone already saw the news they put out. Social media makes journalists have to adjust to the news and hw everyone is receiving it , and how the competitors do it as fast as they do with keeping it reliable and credible.

And journalists also blog news when they are not on the air to let the public know what happening in the area they are in. one reporter from Cnn said this in one of their articles

“Journalism has been forever changed — i’d argue for the better — thanks to the fact that people can interact with media organizations and share their opinions, personal stories, and photos and video of news as it happens. This year’s nominated iReports are prime examples of how participatory storytelling can positively affect the way we cover and understand the new.”(Hawkins-Gaar,2013).  Social media makes journalists do their job differently but not in a bad way, in a good way, making journalists expand what they learned to do more in a shorter amount of time. People can use social media to expand their mind on what is happening in the world as it is happening, and sometime before it happens.

Social media does a lot to benefit journalism like making the journalist job easier, expands the news and coverage they have,  how they receive the news. All these are ways that journalism is benefited in the situation that social media is in right now. Social media is a very popular way to get the news, receive message, and send messages to friends and family from their city or across the country. Social media expanded all contact with the world for someone in new york to see what’s going on in california, because it is all over social media journalism accounts and news accounts all over every application on one person's phone. Journalists need all the sources that include information on any subject or topic they want to research for the next television broadcast. Its enough for journalists to find credible and reliable information, on the topic they want to research, or just a breaking news article they have to make sure that it is real and not fake news. But this also helps journalists expand the way they get their information to make sure they get the right information. They can follow a bunch of different sources that have the blue check next to their name, so they can get all the credible information at the speed of everyone else.
