Determine if you currently live in a rural/suburban or urban neighborhood. Brainstorm neighborhood features that could have positive or negative impacts on health in your neighborhood. Features may influence health directly or indirectly. For example, health benefits associated with local parks are exercise and community interaction. As of now I’ve always lived in both the city and rural areas’ I’m also leaving back and forth for weeks my residence is both in Flint the city of Michigan and Columbiaville , MI . I’ll brainstorm both my neighborhoods from rural/suburban. Before early in life I resided in Grand Blanc, MI the First six years . The next half of my life Genesee , MI in a rural area for a total of eleven years. Right now , I currently reside in both the city and the country a rural setting more time spent in a rural are Columbiaville, MI . Below, I will discuss positive or negative impacts within the charts for both which can impact my health in the neighborhoods ,I reside in.
Identify two neighborhood features and at least one positive and one negative health impact for each neighborhood feature identified (four (4) health impacts total). 1) One positive feature in the neighborhood of the city is social interactions . 2) One negative health impact in the city air pollution. 1) one positive health impact in the rural/country no overcrowding . 2) one Negative health impact in the rural/country no health services/facilities available . Neighborhoods which are considered to be impoverished housing , such far between resources most poverty houses are within unsafe conditions this leads the occupants In suffering depression. Curtona, C.E., Wallace, G., & Wesner , K. A. (2009).
Review the example table in the Week 2 – Neighborhood Features Table and add the neighborhood features and health impacts you identified in your own grid. Use the positive and negative icons to visually indicate whether the health impacts are positive or negative. Your grid and those of your classmates will then form the Neighborhood Features Table. Please note that this completed table should be used to address the assignment components, not the example table in the instructions.
onside the following questions as you watch the film:When we think about the environment, we usually think about air pollution, water quality, or toxic waste. What other things in our neighborhood environments might also affect our health? The social determinants of health as well as social influences on the individual’s health for instance the kind of neighborhood an Individual resides in bad or good. residing within types of settings has an enormous influence on the persons level of outcomes for instance employed versus single parenthood. The Neighborhood if violent can have negative impacts on child development also can have a very negative impact on a person’s own physical along with social environments of the neighborhoods they may reside which speaks on the distribution of health outcomes. Investigating Neighborhood Area Effects on Health. (n.d.).
How does the film support or contradict the idea that the neighborhood factors you listed in the Neighborhood Features Table harm or promote health? What other factors could you add? other factors , I could add which impacts health environment , low-income , chronic stressor’s impact health . Not having fresh fruit or vegetables, the cost of fruits and vegetables in comparison to non-healthy fast foods . the Availability of farmer’s market in communities. having more than one job affects your health. The film supports my idea neighborhood or location setting have an influence on health and opportunities . Such as; bad neighborhoods more violence more stress on residents of this locations on health and well-being . Being able to exercise safely in your neighborhood walking or running when you do not it has an impact on your health negatively or positively . Investigating Neighborhood Area Effects on Health. (n.d.).
Why do some neighborhoods expose residents to factors that are protective of health? Some neighborhoods are positive settings where parents have a positive social relationship with other parents who know their neighbors whom reside in their community , this is in turn, where children are watching their parent’s and neighbors around them these neighbors are considered to be positive role models providing positive influences also where there are more chances which have outnumbered any possible risks. Neighborhoods are very much dissimilar in comparison to one another for example how pregnancy is impacted as well with birth . The Neighborhood factors have made an impact on childbearing patterns significantly as well as the birthing outcomes which encompass access to health care , quality of available food , the specific quantity of environmental toxins as well as , the accessibility of places to physical exercise. How Neighborhoods Effect Child's Wellbeing. (n.d.). The neighborhoods we reside in have formed our conducts and impacted health in several ways.
The neighborhood environment’s for example the convenience of sidewalks and playgrounds, after school physical activity programs for children and all youth , also the availability of being able to attain affordable nutritious food also has been able to provided . in having encouraged more healthy conducts which has made it much easier in adopting and maintain facilities . those who are receiving suggested medical care when being seen at health facilities are largely nearby to them living nearby or have either since have re-located or since they are more safe , convenient transportation has been also made available. while others expose residents to factors that can threaten their health? Environment in which they reside. In some neighborhoods , crime and violence have been more frequent . neighbors have in some occasion an avoidance of the other , there have been numerable environment’s which have been affected from stress and isolation from neighbors not providing a positive social atmosphere. In more impoverished neighborhoods , parents have been less possible to have the social assistance of a provided network which consists of friends and family which in turn , arguments parent’s own stress which has made it much more complex for the parents to become an effective source in the parents’ life. Within neighborhoods which are predominantly deemed as unsafe children tend to watch the tv not take part in after school activates more frequently , also , they have a tendency as well to become overweight than children who reside in safer communities. Children who have lived within a higher impoverished type of neighborhood chances have been far lessening in graduating high school compared to their peers , in , in theses children adult earning ars lower. How Neighborhoods Effect Child's Wellbeing. (n.d.).
From the same, characteristics of neighborhood environmentssuch as the presence of sidewalks and playgrounds, after-school physical activity programs for children and youth, and availability of affordable nutritious food—can promote health by encouraging healthy behaviors and making it easier to adopt and maintain them. Similarly, people are more likely to receive recommended medical care when facilities are accessible from where they live, either because they are located nearby or because safe, convenient transportation is available. Where We Live Matters for Our Health: Neighborhoods and Health. (n.d.).
What public policy and private investment decisions have shaped the two neighborhoods in the film Unnatural cause place matters? participation of residents remarking what they’d like their neighborhood to be how those in safe neighborhoods take their neighborhoods for granted. Neighbors were allowed to sell their garden vegetables in their neighborhood and to engage safely. Also , for those who were asthmatic like me , they built filtering safe clean homes to filter out dust , pollen , diesel and other contaminants. Unnatural Causes: Place Matters. (n.d.). By the same token, aspects of neighborhood environments—such as the presence of sidewalks and playgrounds, after-school physical activity programs for children and youth, and availability of affordable nutritious food—can promote health by encouraging healthy behaviors and making it easier to adopt and maintain them. Similarly, people are more likely to receive recommended medical care when facilities are accessible from where they live, either because they are located nearby or because safe, convenient transportation is available. Built space including the social environment which have a strong association on resident’s health and well-being. The Neighborhood circumstances also have a major influence on health in making healthy choices daily , easy , complex or near impossible. There are public policy choices to be made both private insurance which encompasses investment decisions which have a form on neighborhood conditions.
What could be done to improve these neighborhoods in the future so they better promote residents’ health and wellbeing? One ,way I believe to aid enhance neighborhoods has been attaining higher education and necessitating various health classes in high school and a health lab course in college for the neighborhoods. Making sure the community is educated therefore this will open doors to further opportunities employment better jobs and ensure socioeconomic status which will ensure a better quality of life. The social relationship among neighborhood racial and ethnic get rid of racial markers or barriers for residential segregation, segregation influences several health jeopardies on those within the poor minority residential areas. This has mostly happened to disadvantaged poor population which aids in psychological health risk interlinked with discrimination . for instance, black Americans communities have been quieter probable in suffering from this fact alone of nearby liquor stores, not many grocery stores not enough supplies of prescription drugs at nearby local pharmacies .A closer group of neighborhoods traits has entailed both physical and geographical influence on the environment such as air pollution , natural amenities , street layout , and pollution. The adverse health consequences ,from numerous exposures ,encompassing diesel exhaust , lead , and water quality known as PCBs, toxic waste spills , chemical releases, also airborne pollution have been a coherent issue. Anderson, N. B. (1970, January 01). What Makes a Place Healthy? Neighborhood Influences on Racial/ Ethnic Disparities in Health over the Life Course. Part II Written Agrement. Summarize the Place Matters video. After World War II, numerous Caucasian residents left the Richmond area leaving 1/3 of their resident’s minorities unable to move. Many conditions also averted the African Americans from departing as well due to income inequality and socioeconomic status. Place matters is simply an economic split a segregation among the richest and impoverish growing stretch which represents many American cities while the suburbs aren’t necessarily to blame wholeheartedly with the result of individual free markets all of this impoverished issue had begun to take form centered around short-sighted government policies which were set in place.
Answer the questions in Part II of the Assignment. Be detailed and specific, using examples where necessary to help you make connections to the video. Use scholarly research to support your answers. After watching the film, suggest additions or changes to the Neighborhood Features Table in light of what you have just learned. I’ve seen this video in my undergrad for health administration. I’ve learned about the history of Richmond how World War II came into play of Richmond going as one of the biggest cities. I’ve learned home loans were given predominantly to Caucasian to reside in the suburbs where minorities made up about two percent. I’ve learned how your neighborhood can shape life outcomes in addition how positive neighborhoods and education open doors to socioeconomic status and quality of life years. I’ve learned more about how stress for instance , crime in the community can impact your health negativity and prevent exercising . I’ve learned poorer area’s always do not have access to healthcare or nutritious food .
Include features that protect and promote health and wellbeing, not only risk factors. Keep in mind that the Neighborhood Features Table is the sum total of all the information added by each student, not just the information you added. Therefore, you should suggest additions and changes to the table as a whole, not just to what you added to the table.Explain, in detail, how the suggested additions or changes would improve the health of your neighborhood. it depends my community has to be able to take into consideration their own interests , which has encompassed numerous influences one being health apprehensions, the resources including volumes for instance social alongside political outlooks. including opposing requirements. A suggestion for the community where I dwell both back and forth between a rural community and a city community. It’s dependent on steps a community needs at the moment in time like my rural community suggestion since homes are way far apart interaction is none besides if you frequent the small store in town or join the events , I would suggest more social interactions amongst neighbors and parks . Also, I would suggest a nearby health clinic otherwise it’s about Twenty-Five minutes away . For the city when , I’m back for a couple weeks I’d propose making it safer to walk in neighborhoods , there is already a neighborhood watch however , I’d also suggest a policy be made to re-new infrastructure of the entire city are pipes are being replaced slowly to ensure a healthy water source used a long filter. I suggest for both cities I frequent back and forth to a committee should make a verdict on actions to take in addressing either environmental apprehensions or health concerns or what to be accountable of over the community also take suggestions and implement them from the community in concentrating in a methodical approach every issue.Read "Improving Health in the Community: A Role for Performance Monitoring" at NAP.edu.
