In the book “Charter Schools:Another Flawed Educational Reform” Seymour looks at why most charter schools will fail. He goes to explore a charter school in Providence, Rhode Island while they are in their first year of operation. Seymour explains that creating something may become really messy. He states ”Creating a new setting is a complicated affair which can become quite messy long before the setting becomes operational.” Seymour goes on to prove his point by stating that since charters start out with small groups “there's no possible way of knowing how a decision was made.” Seymour is a Psychology professor at Yale University. He has written over fourty books and sixty journals on education. Seymour is considered one of the most significant researchers in american education.

In the article “The Charter School Mistake,” Diane Ravitch speaks about how fast charter schools are making education private and the increasing of social problems. She states that the purpose of charter schools has been abandoned. The reality of charter schools is a system of unregulated schools that, at best, are just as good as public schools. She concludes that instead of making private education bigger, regular schools she be strengthed. Ravitch is a Professor of education at New York University and author of “Reign of Error: The Hoax of the Privatization Movement and the Danger to America's Public Schools” Diane believes that charter schools are not a good option. In the news article she states that Los Angeles has more charter schools than any other city in the nation. She is completely against charter schools. To her charter schools are not at the benefit of the school districts in the nation.

In the article "Surveying the Charter School Landscape." Martin West explains how the charter schools are beneficial. He starts out with the “Four Corners”. The “Four Corners” are states in the midwest which include , New Mexico, Utah and Arizona, Colorado. He defends his point by using facts from various sources and one of those facts are “ Charter schools now serve 19 percent of public-school students in Arizona, 11 percent in Colorado, and nearly 10 percent in Utah (in contrast to about 6 percent nationally)” he goes on to use other statements such as “But today, as Ladner shows, charter students across the four states are performing at impressive levels.” his point is clear that he is in favor of charter schools. Martin West is professor of education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a faculty research fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research. He is also deputy director of the Harvard Kennedy School's Program on Education Policy and Governance and executive editor of Education Next, a journal of opinion and research on education policy. West studies the politics of K-12 education in the United States and how education policies affect student learning and non-cognitive development. (Harvard.edu)

In this article "Gentrification and Neighborhood Schools."it explores the difference between charter schools and public schools in gentrifying neighborhoods. There argument is that higher income families, when it comes time to enroll, will choose a better performing schools dn that typically is charter schools. “they often choose high-performing private or charter schools to educate their children”. Due to that public schools have to be in competition with charter schools. “In an effort to compete with charter and private schools in attracting new students, some public schools in gentrifying neighborhoods have expanded their academic offerings to include magnet programs, gifted and talented classes, foreign-language instruction, and other courses of study that may particularly appeal to affluent parents.” This article does not take a stance on the pro or con of having charter schools.

In the article “Charter Schools Under Attack” posted by The Washington Post they present how charter schools benefit children of color and how they can negatively affect them as well. The article presents to sides of the story using two prominent African-American advancement organizations/ The NAACP and Black Alliance for Educational Options. The NAACP states “harters were faulted by the groups for supposedly draining money from traditional public schools and allegedly fueling segregation”. The NAACP takes the stance that charter schools diminish the current school district and allegedly contributes to segregation. The opposing side which the Black Alliance for Educational Options states that "You've got thousands and thousands of poor black parents whose children are so much better off because these schools exist,".They believe that children who go to charter schools from low-income areas receive a much better education and in the end will be at an advantage compared to if they went to public school.

In the article “ The Charter Advantage” posted by The Wilson Quarterly it speaks about how charter education have the advantage over public schools. The article takes an obvious approval stance on chartered education. One of the way it presents the idea of it being better is a it says “Charter schools do a better job of producing proficient students.”. Then it goes on to say just how much better charter schools education was better than most public schools. In the article they compared how 50,000 students did on an exam it says “We looked at how some 50,000 charter-school fourth graders did on state proficiency exams in reading and math, relative to their peers in comparable regular public schools. The results: The percentage of charter students who were proficient was four points higher in reading and two points higher in math.” They are using statistics for there argument of how charter schools are better.
