A title that has intrigued me to write about would be, “The Production of Knowledge requires accepting conclusions that go beyond the evidence for them.” For starters, this title will require much thinking to understand on a deep level. For me to give this title a rough explanation I would say that it is stating that in order to understand or evaluate certain pieces of knowledge, one has to believe even further into what is already known. In this title, some main words that can be discussed would be production, knowledge, conclusion, and evidence. All of these different words make the reader think and want to evaluate the title even further into finding a deeper meaning and understanding. In evaluating these words comes with a deepening understanding of them as well.
When the word "production" is used, it signifies, by definition, “the action of making or manufacturing from components or raw materials, or the process of being so manufactured”. You can produce many things in life such as food or a film. In this example, "knowledge" is what is being produced. To "produce" something intends to deliver it out of where ever it is at. "Production" is identified with the Greek word techne which is the "knowing" and the "know how" that manages our relations to the things that are produced by Nature and to Nature itself and additionally that is identified with the things created or made by people. Production happens every single day, all around us. Whether it is on a small scale or big scale it happens day in and day out and is a big part to what makes the world go round.
The main word which is the most important in this title would have to be the word “Knowledge”. Everyone has some sort of knowledge and depending on how much we have can value us as a person. In society, those with a higher level of IQ are considered to be one of the best of the bests because of their knowledge on vast subjects and because of their knowledge they have made amazing contributions to the world we now live in. An example of someone who has impacted the world we live in due their knowledge would be none other than Marther Luther King. MLK is one of the most renown people in history and one of the things he is most known for is for leading a Civil Rights movement to end racial segregation. Because of his knowledge and views that he passed on to people, he has impacted the way we live in an amazing. In order to do this he also had to produce and teach some his knowledge of what is right and what is wrong. Something to add would be that knowledge can be learned by virtually anything that can be understood. Something like a rock can’t obtain knowledge but something living can. By definition knowledge is “facts, information, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education”. Knowing this we can conclude that knowledge isn’t random, there is a process to knowledge. Knowledge at times must have some sort of a background to be understood. There is though, such a thing as wrong and right knowledge. An example of knowledge would be what a toddler knows compared to an adult. A child of 5 years old would have less knowledge than that of the average 20-year-old adult. There is not straight formula to producing knowledge which gives so much opportunity for it to become something.
Another important word that should be thought about is the word conclusion. Conclusion is a person’s final understanding of what something is. Conclusions are seen a lot in essays of course or in reports. By definition conclusion is the “end or finish of an event or process.” We can make conclusions of things that we understand and even things that we might not comprehend completely. To make conclusions of things that we might not completely understand would have to be part of this. An example to this would be to make conclusions on something such as force. We cannot exactly see what force is physically but we can see the effect of force on various objects and things. We know it is there even though we can’t see force or touch it physically. The world and sciences accept the concept of force even though there is not physical embodiment of it.. After going past the whole stage of not being able to physically see force but rather see what it does, accepting conclusions that goes past its evidence can developed which gives thought to many aspects that back up knowledge about force.
The last word that can be discussed about in the title would be evidence. Evidence as by definition is, “the available body of facts or information indicating whether a belief or proposition is true or valid”. Knowledge is what is proven as true or valid which shows the connection between the two. A question that occurs in this is, can something be considered knowledge even if there isn’t enough evidence to determine whether it can be followed or taught? This question connects to the title in many ways. We are trying to understand this title and in order to do so questions have to be asked to further understand this. Without evidence, how can we determine whether something is right or truthful. Evidence in a place such as a courtroom is most important. Depending on the evidence given can determine who wins in a case. This gives thought that evidence is power such as knowledge is power. Evidence and knowledge go hand in hand. Knowledge is proven by evidence but what is the case in making evidence. Can knowledge be produced even with a lack of evidence? Since knowledge also involves a sort of belief in the beginning to get a foundation for it, evidence is not always mandatory for making knowledge.
Bringing back the title “The Production of Knowledge requires accepting conclusions that go beyond the evidence for them.” We can now understand It to a further degree because we have gone to a further meaning to important words in the title such as production, knowledge, and conclusions. Producing knowledge involves creating knowledge out of something that we might not be able to completely understand. The title states that one has to accept conclusions. Conclusion are, as defined, a final understands of what something is. Understanding what we already know or that we don’t know yet is a risk that needs to be taken. Evidence is a key point in this because in order to produce knowledge, there might not be enough evidence to follow it up but the risk of following a conclusion even without all the proper evidence is what it’s all about. On a deeper level, the main words in the title all connect in some sort of way to help explain the title in its entirety. Knowledge is all around, it has been produced and will continue to be produced. To produce knowledge involves many different understandings and ideas and concepts such as risk. A conclusion doesn’t always have the complete evidence to back it up which is the production of knowledge is all about. Sometimes, in order to understand or produce something such as knowledge, we must forget whether or not it is possible to later on give background to it.
