Intro- who what scope
Formed on the 1st of April 1964 (As a modern department) the Ministry of Defence having jurisdiction of the United Kingdom, their headquarters located at Main Building, Whitehall, Westminster, London co-ordinates 51°30′14″N 0°07′30″W. Employing 56,860 civilian staff (October 2015) with an annual budget of £46 billion(2017–18).
After the collapse of the Soviet Union and the Cold War, the MOD identifies weapons of mass destruction, failed and failing states, and international terrorism as the threats to Britains interests. The day to day running of the armed forces, defence procurement, and contingency planning is what the MOD manages. Their interests are to strengthen international peace and stability.
Five Departments of State from 1946 to 1964 did work for the modern Ministry of Defence these were: the War Office, the Ministry of Aviation, the Admiralty, and the Ministry of Defence (earlier form). Merging in 1964 these departments formed the defence function of the Ministry of Aviation supply then merging into the Ministry of Defence in 1971.

Working with allies and partners whenever possible. Aiming to ensure that the armed forces have the training, equipment and support necessary for their work, and that the Ministry keeps within their budget.

On the 12 January 2017 the Service inquiry panel convened in the MOD building ordered by the DG DSA to investigate and make recommendations to prevent incidents of the sort happening again.
The fatal accident during the 51 Brigade Sniper Operators' Course at Tain Air Weapons Range (Tain AWR) on 1 Nov 16 was investigated. This inquiry was in compliance with Section 343 of Armed Forces Act 2006 and in accordance with JSP 832 – Guide to Service Inquiries (Issue 1.0 Oct 08)
At 1741 hours on the 1 November a single round was fired from a L115A3 sniper rifle. This occurred inside an ISO shipping container on Tain Air Weapons Range, north Scotland. The soldiers awaiting to conduct a night shoot. Following the explanation of the incident are the exhibit and witness statements in the official report naming each student only with a letter for security.
A personal weapon issued to trained snipers, the L115A3 Sniper Rifle (figure 1). Produced by Accuracy International the L115A3 is a bolt-action rifle, fed by a 5-round box magazine it fires .338”(8.59mm) rounds. Weighing 7.81kg and at 1265mm in length, this rifle has been in service operations since 2008.
In the investigation the firing range was fully measured for investigative purposes helping in finding out what occurred a Depiction was drawn up (figure 2). Every detail of the events that occurred that day are available to view on the inquiry, witness statements included.

Role in CJS
The Ministry Of Defence is closely linked to the Criminal Justice System interlinked so much so as the Ministry Of Defence is like and overseer of the different systems and puts into place laws making sure people abide by them and carrying out their own investigations and reporting in inquiry reports shown previously.
