Gender Inequality

Gender inequality means the idea and situation that men and women are not equal. I’m writing this research paper because gender inequality is still a problem around the U.S. and other countries. In my opinion I don’t think we should be having gender inequality. Female or male should be paid and treated equally. It should not matter if it is a female, they can do the same exact thing a man can do. Gender inequality is important to talk about because people need to understand that you gotta treat people equally and should not matter on their gender.

Women get treated differently all the time because men think they should stay in the kitchen cooking, or taking care of the kids. Women are reminded about gender inequality and the abuse of the power. Although it is illegal here to have gender inequality, some other countries like Afghanistan want their females to not work, to just take care of the kids and to cook. The girls in Afghanistan are taken out of school when they hit puberty. They don’t get the choice to stay and have any type of education because they are forced to marry early and have early pregnancies. They still fight for their rights to have their education, and have the right to do for what they want.

Gender inequality is very much talked about issue around the world. It’s an issue that has affected many people whether they are male or female. “Inequality refers to unequal treatment or perceptions of individuals partly due to their gender.” Women are considered to be “sensitive” as men are considered “strong” but why does a women have to be labeled “sensitive?” but a man “strong?” why can’t it go the other way?

Women who have children choose to get a part-time job and stay at home with their children while they are young. Females have a hard time mostly feeling pressured to balance on their jobs and family a priority. There are so many single moms with a part-time job that get no help from their kids father, that they tempt to do everything on their own. Females may have the same job title as some men do, but they don’t always earn the same as a male would. “ A female's salary at work is 75% as low as males.” It’s wrong to pay a women less just because they are a “women.” Females can work twice as hard as male can, yet get paid so low.  It is unfair for a women to be paid differently than a man.

Women often get hired because they may look a “certain way.” Harassment is very much common when women gets hired somewhere where men would work, and men would tell them things like, “you shouldn’t be working here, you should be behind the kitchen.” Sexual harassment happens a lot around women in their workplaces. “41% women who work at a workplace full of male say sexual harassment is a problem where they work.” When sexual harassment happens women don’t always come forward and talk about it because they are afraid the workplace won’t do much about it or won’t do anything at all. “Sexual harassment is often denied by many businesses all over the world in an attempt to protect the company’s reputation.” Small or big business should worry about their reputation, but they should also take care of the sexual harassment problems that they could be receiving. Women shouldn’t tolerate sexual harassment.

Men could face gender inequality also, It’s very rare most of the time. But that’s only when a male is hired in a suppose “women’s job.” For a example, a male may or may not be hired in working at a place like Sephora where they have to sale makeup. Only because women are  considered to know more about makeup then a male will. But sometimes that could be wrong, some males do know about makeup. Specially now in 2018, a lot of males know about makeup and all beauty things. “5% working men say they have earned less than a female peer.”

Women who work the same job as a man end up getting paid less, while the men get paid more. Women find it very unfair, because some women do enjoy doing a man’s job. Men think that women shouldn’t be doing a mans job because they know nothing about the job, sometimes. Many times jobs can be unequal to women. Which usually makes it harder for some women to find a job. Men often get upset if a woman ends up getting a “mans job” and would start to harass the female. “Women and men can differ in any number of domains, gender inequality intersects.” Women are likely four times as a man to say they have been treated differently by a other gender. A women today can have a full-time job and be paid 77%.

A lot of girls are more at greater risk on sexual violence and harassment. “Once a girl starts going to school, discrimination follows.” I feel like it’s easy to attack a female, we’re known to be more delicate and more sensitive. “In China, girls have a seven percent higher infant mortality rate than boys.” 40% of the time, girls have equal access to having an education. Girls in other countries India get treated differently with education. Most times they don’t always get the education they need. Only because most are pushed into early marriages, and not being able to have the choice for education.

Women who face going through a sexual or physical abuse from their partners. College students who are women have experienced sexual assault. Most times women are in a relationship where it’s abusive because men think since their “men” they have the power to hurt the female, because females are known to be “sensitive.” and most likely won’t hit back. “Partner violence and power differences in relationships.” Females are normally scared on leaving their abusive partner and wanting to go to the police because they feel like they don’t know if to trust the person they are telling, or the abuse might get worse. Abusive happens a lot during an arranged marriage and any other regular relationship.

Race/Ethnicity can be part of gender inequality. Race is already a huge problem in the world that we need to solve. Most women don’t always get hired right away and that’s probably because of their race. Latina’s and African American women have a less chance to get hired because the color of their skin. People think hiring Latin women isn’t always a good idea because what “spanish country”they come from, and some companies don’t want people speaking spanish at work. African Americans women get accused for being too “ghetto” at work.  “Racial and ethnic inequality focuses on supposed cultural deficiencies of African Americans and other people of color.” People of color are mostly put into less intelligent and having other flaws that keep them from getting a good education. “Whites benefit from being white, whether or not they realize it.” A white women is most likely to get hired into the a job because they are more “professional.”

Women in Saudi Arabia are forbidden to drive, and must rely on their fathers or husbands to get from place to place. The husbands have the right to stop their wives from traveling outside of the country, they must require some type of permission to do so. Females are mostly married by the age of 18. “Pakistan, women are expected to accept arranged marriages and refusal can lead to “honor killings,” honors killing is when a girl or woman, who is perceived to have brought dishonor on the family. Countries like the middle east are controlled by religious and gender inequality is unwelcomed. Men can easily divorce their wives, while then women would have a harder time divorcing. If the women are being abused they have to have prove to get a divorce. “Abused women do not even have the right to file for divorce unless an eyewitness is willing to testify.” Women are left without any financial support, while their husbands get the rights to custody of their child. Women in the Middle East don’t have the right to pass on their citizenship while their husband have the right to not only give the citizenship to their kids
