In this in-depth geography coursework pice I will be answering my main question “how has Singapore benefited from migration?” I will answer key statements such as how has migration affected Singapore why have people chose to migrate to Singapore an how has migration affected the identity of Singapore and I will expect to test my hypothesis that Singapore has drastically changed due to migration I expect to find that my hypothesis is true and that Singapore has gone from swampy mud flats to a prosperous nation . Reasons for this are that Singapore is a small island and evidence for my choosing this hypothesis is because the evidence is all around us because Singapore is a safe progressive nation and I will be displaying my first and secondary data and in the end I will be concluding how I think migration has affected Singapore for the better.

History
Singapore is a prominent nation and it has a long story starting in 1819 when Sir Stamford Raffles landed on the beaches of Singapore it became part of the British empire in 1825 the population was 80000 and more than half of which were Chinese and other immigrants that came to work on the pepper, gambier and the rubber plantations. Before all this Singapore was a Malaysian territory so it was originally Malay but because of the plantations bringing in Chinese workers, a majority of the population is Chinese. Then after the second world war, Singapore was a colony until they gained independence in 1964 and then they became their own nation.

Forced migration
Forced migration is the act of being forced to migrate because of a conflict disease or fleeing from a bad situation but forced migration can be good so we will look at the good and bad things about Singapore and forced migration
Good
Forced migration can be good for Singapore in the sense of business, for example, my family in England were forced to move to Singapore because of my mus work and not to run away from a major conflict.
Bad
The bad type of forced migration is running away from a conflict, for example, the situation in Syria people are getting big rafts to escape isis and refugees are trying to come to Singapore but Singapore cant take refugees because it has joined a lot of other Asian nations that have straight on turned away refugees. because first Singapore housed refugees waiting for a permanent settlement and then two many refugees came so they had to turn them away. However, Singapore’s refugee policy has been slowly softening in recent years. In 2009, Singapore’s Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong, addressed the problem of Rohingyas searching for and being unable to find, a haven after fleeing from Burma. A senior minister of state for foreign affairs clarified that Singapore could not accept asylum seekers, but would offer humanitarian aid so that they could depart for another country.

Conclusion
In conclusion in my investigation I found that migration has changed the face of Singapore as we know it, for example, Singapore's population going up substantially in the past 50 years and how many cultures and peoples have collided to create a huge melting pot of peoples and how it is most progressive and is a very environmentally conscious nation and there is no sign of Singapore's growth slowing down anytime soon .
