Section 1:
Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States, did many things for our country. He helped write the declaration of independence, supported the Revolution, and ruled over the Louisiana purchase. During his presidency Jefferson greatly reduced the national debt by almost thirty million dollars. He began the U.S. Military Academy in 1802. Overseeing and guiding, Jefferson played a major role in the Lewis and Clark journey. Thomas Jefferson not only furthered our country, but also won the hearts of many Americans.

Section 2:
Jefferson was passionate about this country which is why he believed it was unethical to give money to the government for them to distribute. Because Tomas Jefferson cared so much about America he said his first statement “I predict future happiness for America.” He wanted the country he helped create to succeed and flourish. His next statement, “if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people,” is talking about the governments use of tax money. If the people do not give their hard-earned money to the government, it will prevent unhappiness and uneven work ethic. “Under the pretense of taking care of them,” by saying this Jefferson is talking about welfare. It goes along with the last statement is stating that if people give their money to the government, the government will distribute it to people who “need it.” Although some people may truly need the money, many will misuse this benefit.

Just like his political view, Jefferson took his religious beliefs very seriously. He believed that there was a just God, which is one of his core beliefs. He was raised to be an Anglican, but sometimes may associate with the Deists. He believed that what Jesus said was the, "outlines of a system of the most sublime morality which has ever fallen from the lips of man."

Section 4:
American has not followed the advice of Thomas Jefferson on this subject. We still have to pay a lot of taxes and we still have welfare laws. People work hard for their money, but have to give it to the government. People take advantage of our government in the way of welfare. People decide that they do not want to work which then, in turn, gives money of the hard-working people to people who do not work hard. This is exactly what Jefferson was saying in his quote. If we continue down this path, our country will not find happiness anymore.

Section 1:
George Washington, one of our founding fathers, was critical in the making of America. He was at one time a general for the army, but stepped down to retire to mount Vernon. In 1787, the Continental Convention asked Washington to attend to help draft a new constitution. He was then picked to become the first president of the United States. After serving three terms Washington stepped down from being president and retired once again to Mount Vernon. This was one of the most helpful things someone could have done for our country. Washington helped with the forming of America, and his legacy still lives on today.

In George Washington’s farewell address he mentioned a quote that has much meaning to it. When he says, “of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity,” he means of eveyones character and things done repeatedly that lead to being successful in government. Washington is making the plain even for everyone. The next section, “religion and morality are indespensible supports,” is arguably the most important part of the quote. He is saying that peoples religion and what they believe is right preceeds all other attributes of our country. If we do not have religion and morality to hold onto, there will be nothing left.

Washinton’s reigion is still a debated topic today, and no one is completely sure of what his religion was. Some people believe he was a Christian while others believe he was a diest. Washington attended the Anglican church all throughout his life and even had a position in the church. One thing Washington was extremely clear on is that God played a major role in the making of America. He believed that the Lord guided America in its early year and if we stayed spiritual America would thrive later on in its history.

I believe that America has not followed the advice of George Washington. Over the last few years we have seen a major decline in the spiritual nature of our country. The are new laws that have been passed that directly go against the Bible as well as people elected into office with morals contrary to the Bible. Since these laws and people have been in office and in place America has gone downhill.

John Adams, another founding father, was integral in helping others and fonding our country. He was against the oppression that the British was giving to them. Adams was not only a part of the first and second continental congress but also a defender of the British soldiers. John Adams was sent to France to try and help make a peace treaty with England. After coming back from France, Adams was picked by Washington to be his vice president. When Washington retired from being President, Adams stepped up and became the second President of the United States. The next year Adams lost the election for his second second term to Thomas Jefferson.

Adams is saying that if the government were to split it would be detrimental to our government. “There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties,” in this part of the quote adams is sayingthat there is nothing worse than the republic dividing. He wanted everyone to get along and try to form a government together. Next, he says, “each arranged under its leader.” Splitting is a great fear of Adams for the country. “And concerting measures in opposition to each other,” John Adams states here that splitting parties would put people against each other and the ideas would never get done. Finally, Adams says, “This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our constitution.” The founding fathers made this country from scratch, so they were doing everything in their power to keep it running. The religious past of John Adams can be a little hazy. He was a devoted Unitarian but later rejected many aspects of Christianity. In his early years, John Adams was encouraged by his father to become a preacher, but adams felt that politics was more noble. Many times Adams commented on the abuse that religion can cause certain people, but also saw that it cased many people lives to change for the good. John Adams publically proclaimed that religion was a necessity for public life because of the morality and just guidelines.

I again belive that America has not taken the advice of this founding father. We have ompletely split as a nation and are divided on so many topics. With the complete split down the middle between bemocrats and repubicans there has been more and more moral corruption in our nation. Patrick Henry, first governor of Virginia, played a large role in fighting back against the evils of the world. He gave many speechs that rung in the hearts of the people, but probably his most influential line was, “give me liberty or give me death!” Changing the constitution was the thing Patrick henry opposed the most. He believed that changing the constitution put an enormous amount of power in the hands of the government. Henry was so influential, in fact, he was inspiration for the Bill of Rights. He also spoke out when the stamp act was issued by giving speech that showed Americas outlook on the tax. Although henry spoke out against many things, he always spoke for the betterment of the country.

This quote is emphasizing that because our nation was founded on the true gospel, that is why people are able to seek help here. By saying, “It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not by ‘religionists’ but by Christians,” Henry means that we can not make enough notice that this nation was founded by Christians. The country would be completely different if it was founded by different religion and not Christianity. “Not on religion but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ,” our country’s basis is on the Gospel rather than the basis of “religion.” Finally Henry says, “For this very reason, peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity and freedom of worship here.” By saying this, Patrick Henry implied that because our country has been founded on Christianity we accept people of all religions into our country. Although Patrick Henry spoke harsh words against other politicians, he always incorporated his beliefs with his speechs. In one of his most prominent speechs the “give me liberty or give me death” speech, his faith shone through. He refrenced the Bible many times and even mentioned Matthew in this speech. People have reported that at the end of his life Henry read his bible at night for hours at a time. At the end of his life, he majorly regretted that he did not read his Bible more. In a letter written to his daughter, Henry stated, “This book is worth all the books that ever were printed, and it has been my misfortune that I never found time to read it with the proper attention and feeling till lately. I trust in the mercy of heaven that it is not too late." He was very proud of his religion and tried to encorperate his religion into everything he said.

This statement by Patrick henry has not been adapted by the United States today. We take relion for granted today in America. In previous years, people have displayed their beliefs to the public; but in modern times people are quiet about their religion. Our nation is trying stay away from the Bible, but we forget that our nation was founded on Christ. Although we do
have some Christians in government, we do not have enough. Our country was founded on biblical principles, which is why we need biblical people in our government today. Patrick henry saw what our country needed, but we have not applied it today.
