Introduction
Concussion refers to a traumatic injury in the brain affecting the brain function. Its effects are usually temporary and can include a headache, confusion, memory balance and problems with concentration. Its primary cause is the blow that is caused in the head; it can as well result from the rapid shaking of the upper parts of the body. The typical situation in which concussion occurs is when an individual plays contact sports, for instance football. Its affecting duration varies from a few hours to weeks. According to the way I understand concussions, most individuals always recover fully from concussions while a relatively lesser amount of people may not. Personally I do believe that the ways in which it presents itself immediately, or may last for days before revealing themselves and at times may fail to show entirely. Some concussion symptoms which I know of include confusion, memory loss, and headache.
Other additional symptoms of concussions that I know of are temporary loss of consciousness, feeling pressure in the head, nausea, vomiting, blurred vision and delayed response to questions. Other individuals can also show signs of fatigue, ringing in the ears, temporary loss of consciousness, seeing stars and appearing dazed. In cases where concussions occur some symptoms are felt immediately while others are always delayed. Based on my opinion, some of the immediate signs and symptoms of concussions include: sensitivity to light and noise, irritability as well other personality alterations and disorders of taste and smell. Other immediate symptoms I know of include sleep disturbances and psychological depression and adjustments. The situation is equally prevalent among children; even though I know that identification of symptoms in toddlers and infants is of great challenge as they are unable to describe what they are feeling. In children the signs and symptoms I know of include; crying excessively, irritability as well as crankiness and tiring easily and listlessness. Concussions, therefore, have some impacts on sports and families.
Impacts of Concussions
Personally I believe that concussion does show its effects on both sports and families. It majorly affects individuals who are involved in games. Based on my opinion, the first impact that it has on games is that it reduces the activity of the individuals suffering from the defect. One of the significant issues with concussions is confusion and problem with mental balance. In most instances, sports need a lot of concentration and energy. Once the focus of the player has been withdrawn it then means that he or she will not be at the position of efficiently performing what is required for him or her. People will always make things which they need happen with full concentration, lack of attention especially in sports will, therefore, lead to poor performance and thereby affect ting sports in a contrary manner.
I do as well believe that concussion may as well force an individual to withdraw interest from sports especially football and hence negatively to affect games. A significant percentage of concussions are a result of a head injury that is coursed through contact for instance in football. Research shows that most considerable proportion of individuals suffering from concussions is sportsmen and women. With the mentality that sports can cause shocks, many can withdraw themselves from games. Many people will, therefore, have no option rather than trying to understand how they can enhance their lives thereby making their lives more fruitful and healthy. Being that many will consider concussions to be as a result of sports, this will, therefore, make it difficult for many individuals to be involved in games in addition to others who are withdrawing. This situation will consequently, negatively affects sports since relatively less number of individuals gets interested in games.
Also I know of concussions as something that results to reduced physical fitness among different who are involved in sports. Sports always require an individual to be fit both physically and mentally. Sports needs individuals who are capable of making efforts to perform better, this is however not the case once a person suffers traumatic head injury. The head injury always forces a person one to lose concentration and at times may suffer from blurred vision. Such instances, therefore, make it relatively challenging for one to make things which are essential in the lives of individuals. With such complications in the body, one is therefore not capable attending exercises regularly something that is relatively critical when it comes to ensuring success in games. Being that a person with the condition is not able to carry out his or her duties as efficiently especially regular exercise for sports individuals this then leads to reduced physical fitness and along with memory fitness and hence decreasing the cooperation of the individuals involved in the event.
I also know of concussion to bring about some effects on families. People within a family relatively depend on each other for various things. In families, parents are the primary providers, and they are therefore always tasked with the duty of ensuring that the kids, as well as other people within the family, are well provided for. This may however not be the same situation when a concussion happens to attack the providers in such families. One of the effects that shock brings in families is therefore stress. Stress is lack settlement of might, or the state of mind is not at rest. In many cases, pressure may arise in a family due to many reasons one of them being diseases. Concussions are just like an infection or conditions that reduce the productivity of individuals. Once a family member suffers concussions, this will naturally result to stress within the company since he or she will not be capable of carrying his or her duties efficiently. Concussions are always characterized by mental confusion together with other symptoms for instance blurred vision that may end impacting negatively on an individual and headache bringing about stress in the family.
I as well believe that concussion as cause’s poverty in a family. Debt is something that has relatively many contributing factors. It has been noted that people concussions do bring about some defects in the brain something which results to lower brain concentration and hence lower productivity. The productivity of a person is what makes him or her successful. Once the productivity of a person has been reduced, this, therefore, impacts negatively on his or her income. Most families survive on the profits that they get through work on a daily basis. Once the productivity has reduced, this, therefore, means that the revenue will as well relatively drop. The drop in both productivity and profit is thus to bring about poverty and other sufferings within a family. Similarly, families may as well spend a lot of money trying to seek solutions for concussions. Families will always work and seek medical attention for their people, so that they become normal once again. In the process of trying to find a remedy for concussions, families may spend too much and hence remain with nothing to contribute and thus poverty.
Prevention of Concussion
Being that concussion has negative impacts on sports and families, its prevention should be one of the things taken with severe considerations. Personally I know of various of avoiding issues related to that first preventive measure that should be taken in the case concussions is putting on protective gear when engaging in sports as well other activities that main result to head injuries. Wearing such speeds is vital since it will help in reducing wounds to the head that may result in concussions and hence should be taken into consideration. Education other people on shocks is as well another essential part of ensuring their prevention. Creation of awareness is always one of the best methods that are effective when it comes to prevention of conditions. Through educating others on concussions, this will, therefore, make it possible for many individuals to learn on how the condition comes about and hence will be in a position of preventing it. The other possible way preventing concussions is through carrying out regular exercise. When individuals involve themselves in daily use, their leg muscles are strengthened and hence improving their body balance. Other preventive measures include protecting children from head injuries and making the home safe.
Conclusion
Concussions are a condition that may be less common, but its presence may hugely be felt. It is significant as a result of traumatic brain injury. Some of its symptoms include a headache, confusions, and blurred visions. The condition is relatively common in children even its detection in infants and toddlers may relatively be challenging. Some its symptoms in children may include crying excessively, less interest in favorite toys and loss of balance and unsteady walking. Concussion has effects on both family and sports and May, therefore, end up impacting sports negatively. Some of the results that are it has in games include reduced activities, loss of interest and physical fitness both of which influences the individuals involved in sports negatively. Some of the impacts on families involve bringing about poverty and stress as well as reduced activities among the affected family members. Some preventive measures are as well necessary in this case, they add, creating awareness about the condition, carrying out regular exercise, and wearing protective gears during sports.
