Chapter 3
The researcher gathered data from different sources to review the information to further understand the subject. This chapter includes both local and foreign studies, newsletters, journals, statistics, and published and unpublished works so that through these data the researcher will explain the project in full details.
3.1 RESEARCH STRATEGY AND APPROACH
The researcher shall use descriptive method to understand the data to provide solution and to support the project. The method shall be related and suitable to the study which shall direct the researcher for studying the project. This method is also a quantitative approach in which data can be tabulated such as through scores with test, the number of times a person chooses to use a-certain features. Quantitative approach is collecting the data in a numerical form where it can be rank in order, categories and measured in unit measurements. It can be presented through graphs and table with the raw data (McLeod, 2017) This approach is objective since the synthesis will only be base on what the statistic, survey, others form of gathering data which can be measured.
The descriptive research has three ways that the researcher can do. First is the observational, cases study and survey. Descriptive method’s objective is to get latest information of a state phenomenon ( Rahi , 2017) It is set to give a accurate profile of people,
events and situations. It also discusses in the section, the author said that it seeks to observe and document which is an occurring phenomenon that cannot be referred to objective value.
( Rahi , 2017) said that a research strategy is a method of gathering and interpreting data having a clear objectives. The research strategy used for this study is survey and archival analysis and case study. Survey is conducted through a pre-designed questionnaire or through collected interviews While the archival analysis is the incidence or the prevalence which is related to a specific phenomenon. Lastly, The researcher shall use case study to describe the current situation of the
3.2 RESEARCH INSTRUMENTS
The data gathering for this study is through conducting surveys and questionnaires, doing interviews and consultation, for site there is ocular visits, mapping and archives files. The researcher anticipated that through this instruments for collecting data shall provide necessary information for the justifications of the study. Through using files, news report and other form of documents from different department of government and other institution, the researcher will have basis to fully understand the result of building a new school to the community.
3.2.1 Interviews and Consultations
Consultation and interviews shall be done through an informal style. All personnel, related agency officials who have knowledge about the subject are respondents of the interview and shall be used as a basis for the study. The interviews objective is to have knowledge about the site and the issues that has to be solve.
The necessary data for the proposed Elementary School can be acquired form the office of Las Pinas City since the project is situated in this city. From the zoning, regulations, and guidelines shall be followed. The historical input and other information with regards of the design shall be obtained in the local office of the city. Planning Department of the city can be a source for data that is related to their works such as the site, permits, files and documents.
3.2.2. Mapping and Ocular Visits for site analysis
The ocular and mapping shall be done to come up with the site analysis, to know the proper zoning, sun path, noise direction, wind direction, access road, and other details. It is to have a closer look to the location and result to deeper study of site.
3.2.3. Questionnaires and Surveys
The researcher shall use a closed -ended question type of survey in which the respondents are given a list of pre-determined responses where they can choose their
answers. Researcher commonly used this strategy because of ease of counting. 100 is the total number of respondents to survey.
3.3 ACTIVITY PATH
ORGANIZATION OF UNDERSTANDING
CAA elementary School is rank 1 among the populous school in NCR in year 2012 to 2014 and 2016 to 2018 record. The records of the school showed the insufficient number of classrooms and other activity rooms that shall serve the population of the school. In 2018 record, it also manifested that as ratio increases, the opportunity of the student to access learning decreases because the time of using a particular area are divided to all students. In terms of health, the lesser access for proper nutrition, the lesser opportunity for the students to learn since it causes drop outs and difficulty to process the information given to the students with the data presented by Dep Ed.
So, to address the issue, designing a new school is proposed that will attend the needs of students to access a quality education while also improving their health that enables them to use their potentials even more. The method given shall the guide researcher on designing the project.
DATA GENERATION
The results for data gathering shall use as a basis for designing and planning the structure. The content of the interview was about the current situation and activities of the CAA Elementary School. First, the researcher shall select the appropriate respondents for the data gathering, person involve or who are knowledgeable about the project. The researcher shall carefully develop their questionnaire for the intended respondents. The questionnaire and survey must be understood by the respondents and shall answer it with honesty and with the best of their knowledge. To conduct survey, the questionnaire shall be administered through google form to reach people more effectively and also face to face to obtain more complex information.
The tabulated data results were checked by the participant and after the counting, it is interpreted through statistical tools and presented through graphs.
Respondents of the study
The target respondents were students in grade level and to those who already graduate since they all already have knowledge of the school environment and experience different setting of learning facilities. Also, Parent or guardian of students in grade school.
The survey questionnaire included the suggestion of people about the idea of having new elementary school in Las Pinas City, having urban farming with in the new school to contribute to the school's food supply for improving of students' health, and to allocate
spaces that meet the students- room ratio mandated by DepEd for improving the quality of education. The following are the question included in the survey:
1. Name of the respondent
2. Age of the respondent
3. Student category and status
4. City or municipality of the respondent
5. Have you been to CAA Elementary School?
If yes, what can you say about the facilities?
6. Are you aware that CAA is one among populous school in Metro Manila?
7. Do you think facilities has an impact to students learning?
8. Do you think building a new school with complete school facilities will improve the development of students?
9. Please select on the list below things you want for the new school design?
10. Do you think poor health condition affects students’ performance?
11. Do you think incorporating urban farming (increasing the garden area or using its walls and roof for growing edible plant that will contribute to the school base feeding program and to its canteen’s food supply) would lessen malnutrition rate of the students?
12. Do you think teaching the students the process of growing food and eating healthy food would help them to grow and to have strong body and mind?
Also, does school having farming areas influence the community to create their own to help increase their food supply.
The researcher commonly asks for an interview the following questions:
1. What is suitable site for the school?
2. What is the organizational chart of the school?
3. List of rooms?
4. Population of the school (teachers and students)
5. What are social problems of the school?
6. What are the programs and solution they have or planned to do to solve the issues?
7. What is the effect of lacks of rooms and poor health conditions to students?
synthesis
After all the data ready gathered the researcher started doing design concepts, detail of the design, and space programming. The correlations of the case study will be used as a base for the development of the project. It directed for computation of the space programming and properly allocated spaces that meets the users needs. The methodology was strictly followed to be effective.
Conceptual framework
With the given data, the researcher will use it as a basis for conceptualizing. The researcher will use the guidelines given by the Deped, and incorporating it with new school design and giving consideration for more allocation of areas to gardens and other form of farming. The school will provide spaces according to ratio provided on the guideline and make the areas accessible to all types of user.
