The first 48 is a documentary based TV program found in America aired as a television series on A&E TV station after being filmed in various cities in the United States. The episodes are based on reality acts hence indicate a true picture of what is happening in the real life pertaining homicide case investigators. The filming is normally done up to the end of the episode which focuses on the first 48 hours of the incident where some homicides from different cities are picked to be used as evidences and witness interviews and other advanced tactic skills to identify the suspects. If the problem cannot be solved in the first 48 hours, the correct information might not be found since the suspect may not be found easily. Community policing
Community policing is a strategy of policing that focuses on police building ties and working closely with the members of the community, it was first established in the year 1994 in the United States after the violent crime control and law enforcement act of that year. It is also a philosophy which promotes organizational strategies, that supports the systematic use of partnerships and problem-solving tactics to actively address the immediate conditions that arises to safety issues such as crime, social disorder and fear of crime. It is a professional management organization set aside to create conditions to the safety of the community and provide security to the community members. It uses public media to publish some crime committed by people so as to create fear among people on how shameful the act may look like. They also provide education about the dangerous effects a person can experience after committing a crime. Community policing has created a strong bond between the police and the community which enhances unity, good relation and cooperation amongst people. The community policing was originated from the United State in 1980s as a result of alienation of police during reform era. It prevented collaboration of police and community efforts which reduced crime rates in the area.
Relationship between police and community
The relationship between the police officers and the community is bad because the methods the use to do the investigation is poor since they are so fast to obtain the information yet they don’t know that the information they are getting ,might not be effective in finding the truth about the victim. The police are always font of coming late after the victim has already happened, and for that reason, community members are not happy since they consider them to be useless in the society because they are not offering any importance to them. Example in the this episode the man who reports his case to the police, for having lost her wife ,he does not give the full information since he knew he might be the suspect for causing his wife to move away without leaving any notice behind, this becomes so difficult for the police to continue with the work of investigation. In some cases, police officers sometimes may find somebody who have caused an accident or shot someone, but because the community members might not have arrived to help, they end up taking bribes to allow the suspects runaway while leaving the victims suffer. This may result into getting wrong suspects and long time of research. There are many crimes which are being committed across the world but the few are reported to true with the real suspects. The community does not cooperate with the police since sometimes when they investigation, they keep on carrying guns which leads to killing of the innocent people in their faster way of finding the suspects. The relationship between the officers and the communities is not good since they may accept to be witnesses but they go ahead to change the statement before the court and this may the ck to the police as the suspect of the crime.
Finding witnesses
The ways the police officers use in finding witnesses was wrong because they were relying on one party. It could have been more appropriate and easier for them to get relevant information in case they could have approached more people in the neighborhood. By the time willing people came forth to give the information the detectives ignored them. By the time the detectives wanted to get that information it was too late because these individuals were occupied with other tasks. The questions they were asking could be twisted in a way that the interviewer could not understand what the police officers intent to get because if they ask the closest person directly, the person mighty hide some important information since he may be among the suspects. The best approach that they could have used is to start with the people surround the lady before coming to the closest person so as to compare the information for them to identify the suspects easily. In order to find suspects, detectives are supposed to use questions that motivate people to answer in a way that they were not the suspects but at least they have some slight information about the incident. The police officers are always very fast in their approach since they don’t give attention to some people who may be willing to give information at that time.
