12. Describe the most important characters. Tell something about their age, occupation, family, character, physical appearance.
The most important main character is Katniss Everdeen. Katniss Everdeen is a sixteen-years-old girl who lives in District 12 in Panem. She has a little sister, Primrose Everdeen. Katniss is a strong and intelligent girl, who provides food for her family. Her father died in an mine accident so she is the one to take care of the food. Her best friend is Gale. They hunt together in the woods around district 12. What I like about Katniss is how brave she is, how talented and how smart. By using all her survival skills, she completely outsmarts every tribute.
Peeta Mellark is the other tribute from district 12. He has been in love with Katniss ever since he was a little boy. He is the son of the baker and he is more wealthy than Katniss. He teams up in the hunger games with the career tributes, but it’s all to save Katniss. I like about him that he does everything that is within his possibilities to save Katniss and make sure that she will survive the Hunger games.

Katniss Everdeen, not because she is the main person but because she isn’t scare of anyone in the book. I love such persons.

The story begins with Katniss and Prim, it is the day of the fine. Prim is frightened because this is her first year. For fine Katniss decides to go hunting in the forest. Katniss hunts for her family which includes her mother, Katniss and Prim himself. Her father was killed in a mine. Katniss always hunts with her best friend Gale. He also takes care of his family. Trapped animals exchange them with other people in the village, for eg. Breads, and other foods.
Before the penalty begins Katniss goes home to freshen up her own for the During the fine Prim chosen to fight. Katniss can’t believe this and gives volunteered to take the place of Prim. This is the first time in District 12 someone signs up voluntarily. Therefore, Katniss is soon known throughout the rest of Panem. Then Katniss and Peeta are taken to the town hall where family and friends are given a short time to say goodbye. They are then put on a train to the Capitol, where all the children from each district are being kept. In the capitol, they are trained and prepared for the games. To win the game you also need a sponsor who can provide food. By getting these Katniss and Peeta decide to play a couple in love, they become quickly popular among the public. Then start playing. Peeta works I start with 'professional', they come from district 1, 2 and 4 and for years trained for the games. Meanwhile, Katniss has partnered with Rue a girl from District 11 team formed. They want to murder professionals together. They have agreed to destroy the food of the tributes, this works, but Rue is killed. Katniss takes extended leave of Rue and is seen as a hero of District 12 and 11. After that, the night was announced that there will if the boy still lives they both can win the girl of the same district. They do this to ensure that Katniss and Peeta remain together and eventually murder each other. This would be a big TV hit. Katniss goes like crazy looking for Peeta. Then she finds him completely camuflated.Hij underneath the wounds. Katniss knows that he is not going to survive this without medication. The game makers announce that something special is to get the'hoorn' where they all started. For Peeta and Katniss that medication. Katniss goes to get the drugs. She manages, now are the only players who are: Peeta, and Cato. When the night comes removed wolves there, these are the dead tributes to mutated wolves. At the Horn will eventually killed Cato. Katniss and Peeta think they have won until the game makers come up with a fun new surprise. There should be only one winner. Katniss finally devises a plan that keeps them both alive. Katniss and Peeta won.
But what Katniss does not know is that the Capitol is angry with her, and want revenge.

In this book one thing is the main message; When you trust in yourself you can do everything. When you don’t do that, not everything is possible, so believe in yourself.
The Hobbit
1. Explain your choice: why have you chosen this book? (Think of: cover, recommendation by others, genre you like etc. and explain).
The two titles of the hunger games and the hobbit I remember, so first I had chosen both the books of the hunger games but then I realised that it must be from another writer, so I’ve chosen the hobbit.
2. What do you know about the writer?
J.R.R. Tolkien is the writer of The Hobbit. He was a very smart men. He was writer, philologist and university teacher. He died on 2 September 1973
I. Are there elements from the author’s life in the book?
Yes, in the life of Tolkien he had fought in WW1. He fought in the battle of the Somme and in the whole book people are fighting with each other. The whole book is about a big battle.

The title: The hobbit, refers to the race of the main character ‘Bilbo’.
4. This book was first published in” (year).
This book was first published in 1937.
5. The period the story deals with is:
o 18th century
o 19th century
o Before World War 1
o Between the World Wars
o Modern Times, the ” (example: seventies etc)
o Other: ‘..
How do you know? Give two examples from the book.
There is not really a specific period where the story deals with because the book begins with: ‘this is a story of long ago’.
6. Genre:
This book is a ‘ ( examples: detective story, about social issues (poverty, racial problems etc), psychological novel, historical novel, etc).
This book is a fantasy / fairy tale book, because all of the things in the book are fantasy.
7. Themes:
This book is about ” (examples: love, education, war, poverty, racial problems, death, loss etc).
This book is about strength: You can do more than you think and that you don’t have to go tough things out of the way.
8. What place or country is important in the story? Explain from the book.
The mountain that was taken over by Smaug the dragon and which the dwarfs wanted back was the most important place in the story. (The name of the mountain was: ‘The Lonely Mountain’.) In the book everything is directed to the take-over of that mountain.
9. What is the most important chapter? Why? What happens? What event completely changes the course of the story?
The most important chapter of the book is when Bilbo found the magic ring. This ring could make him invisible. That helps him and other a lot of that moment. Later in the book the ring helps companions a few times. So the ring is a very important thing in the story and change it.
10. What is the part of the book you like best? Describe what happened and tell why you like it.
The part when they arrive at Lonely Mountain. The whole book is about to reach that place and then finally it happen. You’re waiting the whole story of that moment and then it finally is there. As a child that is waiting on his birthday 😉
11. Describe the ending of the story and tell why you like /do not like it.
At the end of the book a few unexpected things happened. Namely the dwarfs got. The dwarfs were convinced that the treasure was their property because it already belonged to them before the dragon shoo them out of the mountain. The elf’s think that they must get anyway a part of the treasure because an elf had killed Smaug the dragon. Another thing that is unexpected is that Bilbo takes the side of the elf’s in this conflict. I do like the ending just because it is so unexpected.
12. Describe the most important characters. Tell something about their age, occupation, family, character, physical appearance.
Bilbo Baggins
He is a Hobbit who is a bit boring, he never did something unexpected. That is a typical thing for the Baggins family. Or like the book says: ‘You could tell what a Baggins would say on any question without the bother of asking him’. He tries to be brave but a lot of times it is under urge. The dwarfs encouraged him to talk with the dragon, because he was appointed burglar by Gandalf.
Gandalf
He is a magician with a white beard, a pointed hat and a wand. He is a flat character so you don’t get to know much about him. He is the one who has arranged that Bilbo joins the dwarfs to go on an adventure. He also supports Bilbo when he brings back the Arkenstone treasure to the enemy. He is always there when he is needed.
Thorin Oakenshield
He is the leader of the dwarfs. In the past his family was the boss underneath the mountain. When he returns to the mountain he assumes that he becomes the boss again. Luckily for him everybody agrees with that.
13. Who is the character you like best and why? Give examples from the book.
The character I like best is Bilbo Baggins because he is a round character so you get to know a lot about him and he changes a lot trough the story, I like that because a flat character in a book is always the same and that makes a book so boring.
14. Who is the character you like least and why? Give examples from the book.
The character I like least is Thorin Oakenshield because I think he is a bit arrogant.
He like to play the boss when they are back at the mountain.
15. Write a summary of the book of at least 100 words.
Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit, he lives peaceful in his hole underneath the ground. On a day a group of dwarf with a magician comes by. And Bilbo has to go with them, to beat the dragon who stole old treasures from the dwarf folk. Bilbo joins them with reluctance. He will experience all kinds of adventures with the dwarfs. He meets trolls, goblins, elf’s and huge spiders. He had also found a ring which could make him invisible. Because of that he could speak with Smaug the dragon without being seen by him. There also is a Battle of the Five Armies where Bilbo was involved by. And of course by every fantasy story / fairy tale, everything ends well.
16. What have you learnt from the book?
I’ve learned two things of the book:
1. This book made me realize that you can do more than you think you can do. Because Bilbo never thought that he dare to speak with a dragon and that he was that brave to bring the Arkenstone treasure back to the enemy.
2. This book also made me believe that you also do need help / support of friends when you are about to do something tough. Because when Bilbo was on the point to Bring back the Arkenstone treasure back to the enemy Gandalf supported him with that.
