The American dream/precious

It all started in 1931, when Adam used the term ‘The American Dream’ in his book called ‘The Epic of America.’ At that point of time there was an economic depression. Adam used the term ‘The American Dream’ to describe the dream of a land, with equal opportunities and a life should be better and richer. Many people have, mistrust to Adams because they travelled to America and worked hard, but it got them nowhere. Their expectations were too high, and they couldn’t reach their goals.

‘The American Dream’ is known everywhere and it’s used to describe the American way of life, but not everyone is successful with it. That is, why no one can give a clear definition of the term ‘The American Dream.’ The dream made many over the globe travel to America to get a taste of ‘the American Dream,’ especially in the 19 centuries when Europe had no real government or an ideology to follow that made them flee to America.

Many people believe that ‘The American Dream’ has it’s beginning in the Declaration of independence, and Adams took inspiration from the basic idea that every men and women are treated equal and seen equally.

If you want ‘The American dream’ to come true, all Americans have to work. In the American dream you can start from the bottom and reach the top, with hard work and passion everything is possible in the American dream. That’s why many under or middle class flee to America to try to get richer.

You can say that ‘the American dream’ is connected with wealth and the hope/ability, to reach everything if only you work hard enough for it. For other people it is more than just getting rich, but for them it’s about to live a simple and happy live with no struggle.

‘The American Dream’ is all about liberty and Americans with unlimited opportunities. Libertinism started when Columbus found America, and created a lot of trade marks. that means that a lot of businessmen got a higher position in the society and more money. That made the feudal society crack and the businessmen adopted their new ideology libertinism.

Many people around the globe choose to travel to America, because of the idea that immigrants of different nationalities, different backgrounds/religions don’t have to abandon them believes because of ‘The American Dream’

‘The American Dream’ have many poor American citizens and there is a lot of ghettoes, inequality and social mobility. Do all people live under Clareece condition? The movie is only so popular because is something we never see in our everyday life. Did the ‘the American Dream’ cause this?

Non-fiction Essay

Precious

The Movie is narrated by Clareece (Gabourey Sidibe), an overweight 16 years old girl that lives in a ghetto in Harlem in 1987. The area she lives in is full of crime, drugs and poor people. Clareece is physically and mentally abused by her mother/father (Mary.) Mary is treating Clareece as a slave, washing dishes, fixing food and forcing food into Clareece if she hasn't done a great job at cocking the food for her. Mary just watches TV and live on social security. Clareece often dream she is normal, with a boyfriend or she dreams that she is a celebrity. Clareece is going to school and are one of the shy ones. She is trying to get good grades, but get confronted by the principle for looking suspiciously pregnant, and gets the offer to leave the school and join ‘each one teach one. Later in the movie you find out that she has been sexually assaulted, by her own father twice. Clareece gets transferred to the alternative school and meets Mrs. Rain, that won’t give up on her problems and tries to motivated her to stay in school. Clareece social worker Mrs. Weiss (Mariah Carey)

tries to help her, but can’t bear the fact the she is being kicked in the head while giving birth or that her father is touching her in the wrong way.

It takes time in 1987 in Harlem (New York,) in a ghetto area were the atmosphere is pretty sad and quiet. The environment is dark and really disgusting. The place belongs to the underclass that is having a hard time. You hear that Clareece mother lives on social security and won’t work, because she is lazy and can’t find a job. The ‘American Dream’ isn’t really given them any favour, it’s hard for the underclass to adapt and that have an effect on Clareece. The mother pretend that she is trying to find a job, but in reality she can’t because many have a bias against people with welfare. The underclass is having trouble with ‘The American Dream,’ they can’t get out of the underclass because the ‘The American Dream’ is forcing them to stay there.

The movie is Narrated by Clareece and reading in second person. Precious is a singular story, focusing solely on the perspective and story of a single girl. The Theme of the movie is ‘being in the underclass in America.’ Clareece is forced to steal food and that’s the consequences if you live in underclass under ‘The American Dream.’ She is trying to take an education, but her mother keep telling her ‘she’s stupid’ because all of the bias people have of the underclass.

‘Sometimes I wish I was dead. I'll be okay, I guess, cause I'm looking' up. Looking' for something to fall a desk, a couch, TV… my mom, maybe.’

‘The American Dream’ is really letting people down, Especially the underclass and Clareeces family. Many Americans are so depressed because they have no money and no one can help them, because the society are built around that every individual have to help them self. Clareece is literally forced to survive in America she has to steal food and live with all the bias people have of her. That can bring a lot of pressure to a teenager.

‘My name is Clareece "Precious" Jones. I wish I had a light-skinned boyfriend with real nice hair. And I wanna be on the cover of a magazine. But first I wanna be in one of them BET videos.’

The black people is still oppressed in the American society, that can be another problem the narrator is trying to tell us.

‘But first I wanna (want to) be in one of them BET videos.’ ‘The American Dream’ haven’t given anything to the underclass they have to survive and dream of a better world, as the quote verifies.

The Conclusion.

I really feel bad for Clareece, she has no one to love her and she gets abused almost every day. ‘Please don't lie to me, Ms. Rain! Love ain't done nothing for me… but beat me… rape me… call me an animal! Make me feel worthless! Make me sick!’ ‘The American Dream’ have not done anything for them either, and in the end of the movie is still haven’t done anything. ‘The American Dream’ says that it doesn’t matter witch color you have or religion, but the movie is telling another story.

There is a lot of inequality and social mobility in America, Clareeces mother is living on social security and can’t even afford to give Clareece money to food. In one of the scenes Clareece is forced to steal that tells us that you don’t get a lot of money if you live on social security in America.

America is about to live a simple and happy life, witch Clareece family has never done

Only love and hope made Clareece make the jump and confront her mother, learn to read and write. I would recommend ‘The Danish Dream’ for her because you get a decent amount of money if you live on social security, you get SU to decrease the social mobility, free education and it doesn’t matter witch religion or color you are. If Clareece lived on ‘The Danish Dream’ she would have been much happier.

The movie is rejecting the American dream
