Abstract
The Quran is a complete guide covering all aspects of life, whether spiritual, political, social, economic or scientific. It is a guidance that has no boundary of time, place or nation. These guidance or messages are spread throughout the Quran in variety ways, such as direct stipulation. One of the most excessively grew studies regarding Quran is Scientific Interpretation of Quranic studies, where thousands of articles were written about it. Science is a knowledge related to a person’s understanding of the natural world while, science of revelation is knowledge revealed by Allah SWT to Prophet to be convey to the followers as a guide to develop self and civilization. As Muslim, discovering and delivering all these knowledge in Quran is an important act. Therefore, this paper is a review of a selective Quranic verse regarding its scientific interpretation and how it is related to scientific research in the form of interactive application.
Keywords: scientific interpretation, scientific research, interactive application
Introduction
The development of science has increased significantly in this past few decades. Not even one man deny, that science is needed for development of human civilization in the world. Without science, we would not achieve what we have today, and what’s more science compel scientists and people to admit the essential need of Supreme Creator. Because of that, this knowledge lead us towards ‘tawhid’ which is the most important part in spiritual aspect. Before that, we need to know that there is no definite definition for science. What clear is that science is essential for our daily lives.
In order to understand more about science, let see us begin by looking at the term science itself. According to Peter Medawar (1984), science is a new term that were not used in past civilization. However, science term was origin from Latin term which is ‘scientia’. Plus, there are 12 words which are similar to the Scientia term. The words are ‘sienz’, ‘ciens’, ‘cience’, ‘siens’, ‘syence’, ‘syense’, ‘scyence’, ‘scyense’, ‘scyens’, ‘scienc’, ‘sciens’, and ‘scians’. The Latin word ‘scientia’ means knowledge. Traditionally, science may be defined as ‘systematic and formulated knowledge’ (Fowler 1978). Meanwhile, Mortimer J. Adler (1976) states, ‘science is a search for a rational explanation of natural phenomena. It is a continuing activity.’ Based on Britain’s Science Council, ‘science is defined as the pursuit of knowledge and understanding of the natural and social world following a systematic methodology based on evidence’.
After knowing the definition of science and its importance towards human civilization, let’s us understand the connection between science and Quran. The book of wahy is the best guidance for the world and hereafter, which was revealed in the 7th century to Muhammad by Jibril as medium and it is narrated in mutawatir chains. Furthermore, al-Quran is the main source of the Islamic faith. It is a book believed by Muslims to be of completely Divine origin. Muslims also believe that it contains guidance for all mankind. In this research, I intend to give an objective analysis of the Muslim belief regarding the Divine origin of the Quran, in the light of established scientific discoveries for verse 17 from Surah al-Mu’minun. In addition to that, I intend to deliver this analysis’s result in the form of interactive application to help others understand the scientific interpretation for Al-Mu’minun verse 17. This interactive application is widely use nowadays especially for education purpose instead of traditional education method. This is because no limitation of time to use the application. Therefore, it is very suitable for every age categories.
Objective
Regarding the introduction above, these are the objectives that I want to achieve from this project:
1. To understand about the knowledge of Scientific Interpretation of Al-Quran.
2. To help Muslims learn about the Scientific Interpretation of Al-Quran for verse 17 from Surah al-Mu’minun.
3. To review the connection between scientific discoveries or research and Quranic verse especially verse 17 from Al-Mu’minun.
4. To design and develop a suitable courseware for every age categories to help them learn the Scientific Interpretation of Al-Quran for verse 17 from Surah al-Mu’minun in an interactive way.
Methodology
When doing this project, I used ADDIE Method as a framework in designing and developing this educational interactive application. The ADDIE Model consist of five phases. The five phases are Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation which representing a dynamic, flexible guideline for building effective training and performance support tools. The five phases for ADDIE Model is as shown in the figure below:
Figure 1: The ADDIE Model
Based on the figure, there are five phases in ADDIE Model which could be summarized as follow:
Analysis
During analysis phase, the designer identifies the learning problem, the goals and objectives, the audience’s needs, existing knowledge, and any other relevant characteristics. Analysis also considers the learning environment, any constraints, the delivery options, and the timeline for the project.
Design
A systematic process of specifying learning objectives. Detailed storyboards and prototypes are often made, and the look and feel, graphic design, user-interface and content is determined here.
Development
In the development phase, the developers create and assemble the content assets that were created in the design phase. Programmers work to develop and/or integrate technologies. Testers perform debugging procedures. The project is reviewed and revised according to any feedback given.
Implementation
During implementation, the plan is put into action and a procedure for training the learner and teacher is developed. Materials are delivered or distributed to the student group. After delivery, the effectiveness of the training materials is evaluated.
Evaluation
Evaluation is the systematic determination of merit, worth, and significance of a learning or training process by comparing criteria against a set of standards. While the evaluation phase is often listed last in the Instructional System Designs (ISD) process, it is actually ongoing throughout the entire process. This is what partially makes ISD or ADDIE a dynamic process rather than just a waterfall or linear process.
The reason why we choose ADDIE Model as our project method instead of others is due to its straightforward instruction for each phase that make it is easy for us to follow. Plus, this model is one of the most commonly used software test methodology besides Waterfall Model, Agile Model, Spiral Model, etc.
