In examining a case study as an example, the psychologist Mary Pipher, in her book Reviving Ophelia, discusses one particular teenage girl s struggle to remain feeling confident, empowered and loved in light of the today s media industry. The girl, a thirteen-year-old was struggling with a hard, very common battle in this day and age; the constant fight to stay true to herself and, maintain a sense of self worth and belonging while competing with the images of females placed in front of her every day—images that are thin, pretty and flirtatious.
