It is often argued that the production and sale of cigarettes should be made illegal or not. Most of the people think that the production and sale of cigarettes should be made illegal as health problems are increasing because of smoking. Smoking has negative impacts on health because of having 4,000 chemicals in cigarettes that are cancer causing and toxins which also even cause death. The production and sale of cigarettes must be prohibited to altogether of non-smokers while other people who support smoking think that everybody has the right to buy and smoke cigarettes. In addition to this, the smoking ban is kind of killing of the freedom of personal choice and an undemocratic exercise which could encourage intolerance in society. However, considering to the non-smokers point of view, the production and sale of cigarettes must be forbidden as 6 million people are dying every year because of smoking-related diseases.
Today, the production and sale of cigarettes have become a legitimate threat for human civilization as the death rates caused by smoking are higher each year than illegal drug and alcohol use, HIV, motor vehicle injuries, trafficking women or children, suicides, murders, and environmental disaster altogether. More precisely, in the twentieth century, 100 million people died because of the injuries health of smoking, while it is predicted that 300 million deaths might occur by 2100 if the consumption rates of smoking drop steadily during this period. However, banning cigarettes cannot be a good solution to reduce the harm caused by smoking. This is because people would try to get rid of the exercise of autonomy, if banning cigarettes imposed on and then they could try more and could be addicted to more. So, for the safeness of entire human world, instead of banning smoking, we should concentrate on spreading awareness regarding its consequences.
Smoking is one of the main causes Lung, Brain, Bladder, Rectum, Stomach and Breast cancers and also many other cancers. People are suffering from various kinds of diseases caused by smoking like heart, chronic coughing and asthma diseases. Women and children are particularly affected because of smoking. Especially, women have a high risk of declining fertility rate, low birth weight, sudden infant death and even infertility as consequences of smoking. Indeed, children, whose parents smoke, are often found in suffering from lung diseases, bronchitis and asthma in particular. The teenager’s are miss led as they just want to have fun habituated by smoking and could not understand the bad effects of it. Moreover, smoking is always not harmful, rather we could say that excessive amount of smoking is harmful. Likewise, large quantities of junk food are also harmful but we do not think to ban it even. Risk and harm caused by smoking could be reduced by educating smokers about safer smoking ways like electronic cigarettes and smokeless tobacco instead of banning production and sale of cigarettes. It is a fact of habit and kind of addiction. Most of the people start smoking before they are being an adult. They may like to addict themselves in this age period. So, instead of smoking; they may be involved in strong addiction as there are too many drug addicts out there. In this point of view, the smoking ban might not be really helpful to prevent people from smoking.
There are some people who do not agree with the idea that the production and sale of cigarettes should be made illegal as they believe that it is helpful for their creativities and inspiration as well as sometimes, to get relax and refresh of their brains and also helpful to concentrate properly and keep them in mind. It is also claimed that everyone has the right to buy and smoke cigarettes as a part of their freedom. Conscious people could avoid it in their own thinking. On the other hand, cigarette business, being the most heavily taxed commodity, is a big business as one-third of the total population of world are smoking now, banning smoking would lose thousand of billion dollar in tax revenue, for the government to serve public sectors, although billion dollar costs for smoking in health care from individual pockets. It is important to consider that it might promote other business related to this sector such as bars, pubs, clubs, restaurants business and the so on.
Finally, it can be concluded that, as most of the people are smoking because of availability of cigarettes and of being habituated by others and also for having no idea of the effects of smoking, they are suffering from various kinds of diseases and dying every year. To protect people and for being saved from the manmade disaster like smoking, the prohibition of the production and sale of cigarettes might be the right decision.
