Essay: 9/11 has drastically transformed the lives of Muslims

In the world, we live today we often faced with challenges and barriers. Throughout the many races in the world some find it harder to cope than others. Muslims on Earth are faced with many social and religious challenges. The view of Muslims has also evidently changed as from the catastrophic that occurred in 2001. It’s said to believe that Anti-Muslim hate crimes are now 5 times more frequent and often than they were before 2001. All of this is to believe to be from the events of 9/11 and fundamentally and transformed the lives in the US. Muslims daily life have also been affected dramatically at to the point that they are concerned with their lives and body image to go out in public.
The perception of Muslims across the United States had drastically changed after the 911 attacks on the twin towers. Many white and black people had the minimalistic view that all Muslims were terrorists. This led to protests and attacks on Muslims. America was called the land of the free and equal country, yet the equality of Muslims was then change. 911 brought this deception on Muslims that now there every day to day life was permanently scarred from the attacks. Muslims found that fitting into society was near impossible and find it hard to do many normal things in society. Such as being able to go the shops, finding a job, buying property, joining local clubs, being in public places and quite simply being in their front garden. Throughout the rest of Americas history after the attacks the deceptions of Muslims will never be the same. They will always live in fear of being persecuted for something quite frankly they did not commit.
Muslims have always been treated unfairly in America, for their religion, looks and beliefs. After 911 anti-muslim protests grew in significant numbers. Muslims found it hard to then fit into normal life as we know. They were limited the number of visas for immigrants, students and visitors from Muslim countries, have added to the feeling of unease among many American Muslims. A quote from Nawash on their treatment after 911 is empowering and tells the harsh true story of what Muslims were faced with. “We have a failure in Muslim leadership. And that is: rather than admit that we have a problem and try to deal with it, the problem is with extremism. Most American Muslim organizations took the victimization mentality and rather than recognizing that we have a problem, instead, accused anyone who noticed the obvious. That there is a problem we were faced with, they accused him of being anti-Muslim.” The weakening of traditional Islamic organizations has made room for new ones that recognize the importance of American values and democratic institutions. But the problem is with new leaders comes harsher laws and regulations. Donald Trump as we all know is very anti Muslim and has a strong opinion on Muslims in general. He has always spoken out for his dislike of Muslims and insured them he would eradicate them. Trumps recent laws called to ban all Muslim travel to the U.S, he has since called for an extreme vetting of people from certain territories with a history of terror. A very powerful message from a Muslim blogger Shawna Ayoub said to the world “I stopped reading the Qur’an between classes, I kept the headscarf I carried for prayer hidden in my purse instead of draped around my neck. I began pushing up my sleeves when in groups so people would not worry that I was conservative. I hoped they wouldn’t even remember that I was Muslim.” This is the devastating effects on Muslims from 911. This treatment brought them to stop believing as if they did they could go to jail or quite drastically ultimately lose their life.
Ultimately, after 911 occurred Muslims opportunities started to be limited. They were faced with harsh living conditions and day to day life seemed on the verge of impossible to live. Aside from these hate crimes and protests, Muslims were faced with new daily struggles. Things like flying in airplanes, getting through security checkpoints, finding employment and housing without facing discrimination, and going to weekly worship services without fear of attacks or undue surveillance. This all became a major reality for them, which meant Muslims where scared to be themselves and couldn’t justify why America was turning their back on them. Many young Muslims who were born after September 11, 2001, were brought up to thinking that there is only one US. The US that sees communities wake up to see their mosques covered in anti-Muslim vandalism, in which politicians and social media can get away with using slurs to describe fellow Americans. The opportunities started to limit in many forms of life, such as religion, and quite ultimately their deserved freedom.
In Conclusion, 911 has drastically transformed the lives of Muslims in many different forms of life. Some of which are the perception that the rest of the world view on Muslims. How this generalisation that all Muslims are terrorists and will blow you up. This perception has led to Muslims being forced in to being treated inhumane ways. They are being racially attacked, beaten, mosques being vandalised and more. All though not all Muslims are treated this way and there is good in the world. Many white Americans have given their help and support for Muslims, and looked out for them as they are human. The poor treatment led to limited opportunities and a harsh day to day life. Finding jobs or housing, or trying to fit into communities was hard. They were forced into this life because of extreme terrorists that took their lives and many other lives to create this devastating impact on the world.
