Political issues and warzones occurring in many countries brought Australia to bringing a countless amount of refugees, to save many families and to open up new paths for the immigrant’s future.
What are changes in Australia after refugees?
There are many changes to Australia’s refugee policies in recent years. These changes have largely been a political response to an increase in the number of people seeking asylum by boat. Over 51,637 arrivals in the past five years, also deaths at sea occurred with at least 862 dead bodies during the same period. Both of Australia’s major political parties have responded by blocking access to protection in Australia and penalising those who are coming by boat. For many years, Australia has set a number of visas under the Refugee and Humanitarian Program to relocate people for humanitarian reasons (offshore resettlement). In recent years, the places went from 13,750 [2012-13] then it was increased to 20,000. It has been said that that was the largest increase to the program in 30 years.
Do Australians understand the rights towards the refugees?
Refugees and migrants come to Australia with a fortune of skills, experience and ambitions. They are committed to pursuing employment as a means of ensuring economic security and contributing to their new home. Often these groups have been forced out of their homes due to war and conflict, and many have experienced persecution, unemployment and interrupted schooling. However, they face multiple barriers in applying their skills and experience, and in fulfilling their aspirations, within the Australian labour marketplace. We include those who have been recognised as refugees, as well as those who have come on other visas (for example, as family members, skilled workers or students) who come from similar backgrounds and face similar disadvantages.
How did the Australian government respond to the war and conflict around the world?
As announced by the Australian government places have been made available for people evacuated by conflict in Syria and Iraq in addition to others who are coming as part of the Refugee and Humanitarian Program. Now urging Australia to accept a new intake of Syrian refugees. The refugees who have resettled in Australia previously can get the same benefits as other permanent humanitarian entrants, including employment services, Medicare, income support payments, English language tuition, torture and trauma counselling and settlement services. The first families granted visas as part of the allocated humanitarian places began arriving in Australia in November 2015 and there is now a regular movement of visa grants for Syrians and Iraqis. There is a gap between when visas are granted and when they arrive, because of the time taken to complete checks and finalise travel arrangements. Before a visa is approved, applicants for resettlement in Australia are required to meet all criteria for a Refugee and Humanitarian visa, including health, character and security checks. There are growing concerns that Australia had preferred Christians over the refugees who identified with different religion groups. There are also concerns that too many refugees are being resettled in too few years.
How many people from Iraq and Syria have moved to Australia?
There are over 9,382 refugees from Syria and Iraq. Iraq and Syria were the most effected and conflicted countries during this war due to the political problems. Many people had to give up on their culture and leave to search for their safety. Children are at risk of being traumatised by what they may see or hear. Parents are worried about their home. Young men get taken away to fight in war. It is for their benefits to take advantage of the opportunity of coming to Australia.
Every day, refugees and asylum seekers living in Australia are struggling to make ends meet. Families living on just one meal a day. Parents unable to afford their children’s medicine. Young men sleeping on the street. Your kindness can help them cope as they search for work or make important decisions about their lives.
