In his essay “love and race” Nicholas D. Kristof wrote a persuasive essay where he discusses the effects of racism and how the people are dealing with it, he said that the number of mixed race marriages are doubling each decade, he talks about how the people improved with racism and he gives examples of people who were with and against it , and how after an accident with racism 42 states banned intermarriage, however the writer think that it is a good thing because it is a welcome sign of thoroughgoing desegregation, and most of interracial couples keep their relationship quit because they are scarred of what people may think about them and how they will judge them. I agree with Kristof that intermarriage is a good thing for the society because, the people learn different cultures and traditions with each other, experience a different way of thinking, and having miscegenation kids.
There are those who say that the foreign spouses in the end reach a road suspended for the accumulation of different problems between them, but in the beginning we have to say that the basis of marriage is the convergence of social and human values, Marriage is a mutual understanding and a spiritual human connection between husband and wife it depends on their personality not how they look like or where are they from. In the modern era, as a result of the progress of the societies, and in light of the development of the modern world means of communication and the technological revolution that broke all borders between countries, the whole world became a small village. Private international relations developed, and the world moved towards economic openness, integration and cooperation. The daily activity of the individual is no longer limited to the scope of his or her country of nationality, but also to other countries, especially after the spread of the phenomenon of migration and the large number of people leaving their countries and their stability in other countries and their entry into relations across the borders of one state.
The evolution of public opinion on intermarriage has been a change for the better in society Kristof argues that “The rise in interracial marriage reflects a revolution in attitudes” (pg.1) each individual has a distinct personality, which clearly affects his or her life, in emotional, social and psychological choices. The ability of each person to adapt thoughts or ideas from one person to another, based on the environment, the circumstances of his life, his experiences, his family and social surroundings, and his scientific level. A person’s ability to harmonize in a different environment related to his personality, whether if to open to others or be closed to himself. The ability to harmonize within any couple is based on their principles of understanding and mutual respect between the two partners. The presence of the other supportive people will help effectively to adapt with the changes more quickly, cultural or religious difference or any other difference does not necessarily generate different people but is an invitation to a rapprochement among themselves. some people disagree about intermarriage because their mind is still not opened about the idea of not doing everything in the old tradition way, but people with open minded think that it is a good thing because they are okay with idea of exchanging traditions with the other person.
From an experience that happened to one of my one of closest friends, they fell in love with each other, but both of them were from different religions, the girl is non-Muslim but the guy is Muslim. A Muslim guy can marry a non-Muslim but a girl can not, the parents of the guy are so religious that they did not accept the fact that their son wants to marry a girl from a different religion because their traditions and beliefs are different , but the guy himself does not mind it because he loves her and she loves him, I do not see why his parents did not approve of them even though it is allowed in Islam, now they are still dating but behind his parents, the girls parent are okay with it they told her to do what makes her happy.
I agree with Kristof when he said that “Thus we should welcome any trend that makes a superficial issue like color less central to how we categorize each other” (pg.1) because I do not think that a person should be treated by his skin color there are much bigger problems than this,
The richness, openness and culture that the children acquire from parents from two different countries. The intellectual and emotional maturity and social awareness of both parents will reflect a positive energy for the whole family. Children may be affected by a clear difference in traditions if the parents neglect their education from both countries, if they have not traveled to the second country with their children for a long period of time or have expressed dissatisfaction with the traditions and customs of the other society.
A happy and coherent marriage is manifested in the benefit of the richness of experience, the acquisition of languages, the acceptance of culture and the respect for difference, in which diverse civilizations are intertwined and integrated into the common family mold. It is closely linked to the individuality of the individual, the family and the community, the cohesion of the duo and the nature of their relationship and acceptance of each other unconditionally. Emotional, emotional and social self-reflection is evident in the person coming from a different environment, which reduces the feeling of alienation
