Clean and healthy water should be obtainable to everyone in the United States, however in April 2014 that didn’t seem to be the case in Flint, Michigan, U.S. The people of Flint, Michigan were about to endure a tragedy. This all became a reality in 2011, the city of Flint was in an economic downfall. The city had no incoming money. A recession was forming, sacrifices had to be made for the people of Flint, Michigan. Flint ultimately made the decision to switch over from their current water source Detroit River and Lake Huron, in hopes to save 2-3 million dollars a year, to the Flint River. Unfortunately, the water in the Flint River is very corrosive, acidic and unhealthy, which in result led to many problems concerning lead contamination in the Flint waters.

The unsanitary nature of the water was noticed by the flint residents, as soon as it was impelled from the river. Many of the complaints included that the water smelled & tasted metal, and it had looked ‘funny’. Residents of Flint used water from their tap water faucets. Flint River’s was not clean and purified water like the water that is across the country. It looked like huge jugs of darker and lewd liquid that was without a doubt unsafe to swim in. A Flint resident, states that she remembered that when she filled her water up in her tub it resembled sewage water. She was amazed at the outcome; the water was disgusting. She couldn’t believe what was happening in her water in her home.

The Flint river has already been a reason to think of considerable pollution with a dead corpse being found in the Flint river. Also, an abandoned car with strange prominent levels of trihalomethanes, and copper were in the Flint river as well. Very disturbing. During this very astonishing time the residents of Flint had no clue how to handle this situation. The flint residents were in confusion as much as the rest of the American people. First tests on the water confirmed that the very enormous issue. The Environmental Protection Agency, noted in confidence that in the water were trace amounts of the E. Coli bacteria, a very serious health hazard for all people on earth.

Roughly, 41% of the 100,000 residents who live in Flint, Michigan are living in poverty or on the borderline. That makes this issue of water pollution in issue in social politics as much as it is an environmental issue. The city of Flint was inspired to make the change in water imports due to financial worries which held that an advanced water resource. In which they thought could make money – saving enhancements in the city’s tense budget. In contrast, the financial decision caused several million more dollars to pay than what was intended to save.

The economic discrepancy that contributed to lack of communication that caused the states to fail & the state authorities to publicly address the issues in an appropriate time and manner. Many activist groups came together to get national attention to the subject. However, they were labeled as no status “anti-peoples”. The backlash was made, despite increasingly troublesome findings that were in concern to the water quality coming from data from scientists.

The water crisis in Flint Michigan was a worldwide epidemic. At the end of 2015, the Flint residents the distress they were so direly in. Scientific test was conducted on the effected populations to concluded that indeed, a vast quantity of Flint residents was critically infested with lead in the blood. That unfortunately, will result in lasting and chronic health problems, especially in children who are more prone to toxins & other various deadly illnesses.  I have conducted a list of sicknesses from the contaminated water resource are shocking. The results were hair loss, skin breakouts and various other health sicknesses that would cause a most unsolicited account of the cost not only of ecological destruction but poverty as well in the city of Flint.

The city of Flint, were unbelievably anxious not only for the longevity not only of the city of Flint, they were anxious for the young children as well. The most vulnerable beings in Flint are the children.. A key example of the damage that has become apparent within Flint’s youth is that of eighteen-year-old Dominque Absell. Possessing a common and lively appearance, Dominque had begun to experience many illnesses such as headaches, fainting, mild seizures and general sickness that are wounding into his everyday life activities. The Flint water contamination is at the origin of the problem and that if properly treated, it could’ve prevented Dominque from graduating from high school and going to his desired choice of service in the military . Once, the use of the contaminated water had been stopped. Dominque slowly stopped feeling ill. The people of Flint were bursting with such sad emotion. The residents repeatedly reported their feelings of neglect by the government and a profound sense of hopeless for the future of Flint, Michigan.
