The Flint Michigan Water crisis, starting in 2014 was when the water crisis that swept over Flint Michigan began. Residents of Flint begun to notice that something wasn’t right with the water as they turned on their water foisted in their kitchens and bathrooms, where they were now confronted by a deadly substance so vile, where it changed the appearance of the water. Residents were now seeing 4 different colors in water away from the original clear water they were use to. They were confronted by brown water, orange (rusty) water, a hot red almost like a red pepper, and some even came out as gray as used pile of charcoal. This is a result from pollution in the water system. For example, lake pollution, river pollution, and deuterating pipes. And just like that residents lost one of the main essentials to living where some would be forced to go without water and some would be resulted in searching for places who still receive clean water to take care of themselves. There are multiple factors leading into the contaminated water crisis, but they all circle around one major of it and that is the Government. Being that water supply sources have been switched to poor level water sources, the construction and up keep of the city’s water system, and illegal dumping into clean water making the water polluted with hazardous chemicals. And even with extremely hazardous polluted water circling through residential areas and causing extreme health risk for 4 years the government has yet to make a move towards making reparations into cleaning their water supplies and reconstructing a new pipeline.

The Flint Michigan arouse in 2014

“The city announces fecal coliform bacterium has been detected in the water supply, prompting a boil water advisory for a neighborhood on the west side of Flint. The city boosts the amount of chlorine in the water and flushes the system. The advisory is lifted on August 20.”

with high levels of chemicals and lead found in the water supply. According to EPA (Environmental Protection Association) the amount of lead that is acceptable for human use is 15 part per billion which mean per billion 1 is equivalent to 1 milligram of something per liter or 1 milligram per kilogram, and that something being the Flint Michigan water source.

“Lead concentrations in drinking water should be below the EPA action level of 15 parts per billion. EPA – Drinking Water Requirements for States and Public Water Systems and information on chemical and microbial contaminants.”

Researchers who are studying Flint Michigan Water conducted their own test on the water separate from the states government to give raw facts on just how toxic the water is in flint. In conducting the study of the water researchers discovered many chemicals that’s causing the pollution in the water. The chemicals found in the water were Coliform bacteria, THMs, Lead, and Legionella. Coliform bacteria forms from the production of acid and gas when incubated at 35 – 37 degrees. The bacteria are commonly used as an indicator for sanitary quality of foods and water. This bacterium is also found in feces. THM, Trihalomethanes is a substance formed from four hydrogen atoms of methane (CH4). Trihalomethanes is usually used for industrial usage as a refrigerant. Lead which is a chemical element only harmful if consumed in large amounts. Legionella is a type of bacteria that belongs to pathogenic group of gram-negative bacteria which contains the species L.pneumophila, which causes a disease called Legionnaires’s Disease and also a mild flu-like illness called Pontiac fever. With these chemicals present residents have gotten sick and have even died from lead poisoning and Legionnair disease.

“Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette charged five current and former officials with involuntary manslaughter on Wednesday, alleging that their failure to act on Flint’s water crisis caused at least one death.”

This is also one of the main reason researchers conducted their own research since government officials tried to cover up this death cause by Legionnair disease.

“in 2014, Schuette alleged, and he participated in a cover-up “by repeatedly attempting to prevent an independent researcher from looking into the cause of the outbreak.” The Legionnaires’ outbreak killed a dozen people—including 85-year-old Robert Skidmore, the victim cited in the charges, and sickened more than 70.”

So, anything above 15 parts is deemed unacceptable for drinking and use. Flint Michigan lead level in the water currently is at a 20 percent.

The cause of the Flint Michigan water crisis all began when Flint backed opted out of the water supply plan made with Detroit and then began to draw water from the Flint river in 2014 part of a cost saving move. The city tried to re connect with Detroit but it was already to late for the damage has already been done. Another factor in the water crisis is that the City and State officials failed to apply corrosion inhibitors to the water. And with the Flint river being treated improperly led to lead from aging pipes to be pushed throughout the pipelines throughout multiple residents’ homes.

“the city of Flint, Michigan was changed from Lake Huron and the Detroit River to the cheaper Flint River. Due to insufficient water treatment, lead leached from the lead water pipes into the drinking water, exposing over 100,000 residents”.

Lawyers and even the FBI constructed their own investigation on the water crisis where hey turned up that the switching of the water supply is a scandal dealing with financial corruption. Investigators uncovered a plan to Karegnondi Water Authority pipeline linking up to the Lake Huron which is an attempt to go around Detroit’s agenda with the first agreement on the water supply which is the reason for them backing out in 2014. That way the can move their own agenda forward into accessing their water supply and profiting from this in return.

“Schuette brought 20-year felonies — conspiracy and false pretense charges — against four defendants he alleged conspired to operate the Flint Water Treatment Plant when it wasn’t safe to do so. He said the defendants used a phony environmental order to allow Flint to borrow money to proceed with the new $285-million Karegnondi Water Authority pipeline, while tying Flint to the Flint River for its drinking water in the interim.”
