Technology has revolutionized many different aspects in Canadian society. It plays a big role in shaping society. There are numerous correlations among technology and human identity as individuals attempt to conform their identity with societal views. As well, political and economic consequences are brought about by the disruption of technology. It is an essential force in globalization as it has globalized the world. But, there are many adverse psychological effects of technology. However, Canada is still home to the most modern and technologically advanced communities in the world.

Technology is testing every industry and challenging every worker. New job openings and organizations that never existed before are being created as others are being eliminated. As the Internet and other technologies make communications easier, they are decreasing the upper hand advantages of Canadians and citizens of other propelled economies. Simultaneously, they are empowering people in rising economies. However, in society, people are becoming more anti-social and are on social media for hours a day. More of the younger generations are missing out on significant life lessons taught through communication and connections. As well, individuals are becoming less mindful of their surroundings. With regards to families, technology has the ability to create social barriers. When it comes to the opinions of Canadians, “The large majority believe that technological change has been good for the world (89%) and almost as many (76%) think it has been good for their own economic well-being. Most people (62%) also believe continued technological change is inevitable” (Abacus Data 2017). Furthermore, the impact of technology can likewise be seen through the social science perspectives. When looking at it from a sociologist perspective, the abuse of technology has led to poor communication skills, as people are not getting the practice of conversing with individuals consistently. Anthropology has determined that technology has impacted human values and their norms. People are becoming less motivated to accomplish present moment and long term objectives. As well, psychologists can see that technology is impacting mental reasoning. Technology could be used in a positive manner to upgrade mental thinking by having quick access to unlimited information using the internet. But, for the most part, technology has a generally negative impact on mental thinking as it prompts to poor mental health.

One of the impacts of technology is the altering of self-identity. Young people are deeply immersed in popular culture and the media. Popular culture is telling them what they should believe about themselves and how they should act to maintain a perfect image. The problem with that is, self identity is being shaped by what popular culture sees as best. Additionally, self-identity is now an identity projected onto us by popular culture and therefore, it is not an accurate reflection. Second, social media has caused a shift in expressing true self-identities. Many people are putting others’ opinions first rather than their own. Young generations are now using social media to gain acceptance, popularity, and status. In addition, anxiety disorders are increasing in teenagers, perhaps this is due to incessant smartphone use.

Advancements in Artificial Intelligence are also adding to the evolution of disruption. These technologies will play a vital role in the future, and will affect society and, thereby, politics. AI will expand the understanding of how to collect and utilize big data. The information will offer new perspectives and decision-making tools, thus humans can end up with new methods of governance. Advance in technology will also create some serious challenges for society concerning the human labor force. When looking at the future of technology, hints can be seen when looking at big companies like McDonald’s. It plans on replacing their workers with computers in the near future, more than 1000 workers.

No one can escape from the outright need of technology throughout everyday life, as technology has a very big role in most aspects of society. It always directs for easiness in life and solving human problems. However, as per Newton’s third law of motion, “For every action, there is an opposite reaction.” Technology has impacted the lives of Canadians positively, yet, it can bring negative consequences.
