There are many perspectives to consider when one thinks of the perfect relationship. While of course, “marriage” does have a definition, it being: “The legally or formally recognized union of two people as partners in a personal relationship” but what decides a perfect one? Self-love, self-reflection, communication, beliefs, and affection, are all things to consider.
The relationship between Edward and Winery Elric, from the show “Fullmetal Alchemist”. Is an amazing example of these characteristics.
Most relationships are built on a spiritual foundation, proving to believe in the same religion can create peace and a lack of conflict. Perceiving the world in the same perspective can be something to work on in a relationship. Significant others should be interested in having the same type of free time, for example, how to spend a weekend: drinking? Partying? Or quite simply lounging. Trust is incredibly important if one is unable to trust their partner to be away for extended periods of time, without being monitored, that should be a problem. If they are uncomfortable with drinking or other actions, one should take that into accountability. Though Edward has not outwardly admitted any romantic feelings toward Winry, he is rather overprotective of her and becomes unnaturally flustered at the mere suggestion of an amatory relationship between them.
No two relationships are the same, every experience, every motto, every behavior can be different whilst still proving to work properly. An example of this is caused by the five love languages. Each individual receives and feels love a certain way, whether it’s through physical touch, receiving gifts, words of affirmation, acts of service or quality time. Edward Elric notices Winry through her acts of service, he is missing an arm and a leg due to an accident at a younger age, and she is the one to build
Learning to control one’s own loneliness is a huge objective in a relationship. When their state of mind is clouded with insecurities, romantic relationships will easily be dysfunctional and doomed. Insecurities are very influential on a partner if exhausted with a constant need for validation, attention, and reassurance. Low self-esteem can wear a relationship, continuously witnessing inner struggles and self-loathing. Self-love is learned and practiced. Without first mastering self-love, romantic relationships will suffer a noticeable disconnect. When a couple both love themselves, that’s when they’ll be able to establish a genuine connection and develop an unshakable bond.
Self-reflection is one of the biggest things to consider in a relationship, the ability to keep oneself in check, thinking back on past situations and understand why they reacted that way, and know that it could be considered a problem, anger issues, or having a very conceited point of view. If they’re able to focus on themselves and communicate how they think. From the show, the couple has similarly stubborn personalities keeping them at odds with one another despite their powerful bond. Winry has served as Ed’s constant well of support, both mechanically and emotionally, though they still find themselves arguing frequently. They often reflect back to realize most arguments are not necessary. In a functional relationship, one doesn’t win or lose, they come to a mutual agreement in n argument. However, this affectionate hostility appears to be masking a deeper relationship. Winry, for her part, has admitted to herself that she had been falling for him all along. They finally confess to each other at the end of the series as Edward proposes to her, although they use The Law of Equivalent Exchange to do so.
