It is a professional discipline that deals with the designing, planning, construction, and management of infrastructures such as highways, bridges, airports, railroads, buildings, dams, and utilities.

Principal objectives of a construction Engineer

• Construction engineer must survey the area.

• An engineer should prepare charts.

•The construction engineer must also provide technical advice to all parties involved with the project. This may relate to any number of topics including the    construction of the site to abiding by certain laws, codes and regulations.

•Construction engineer must overcome the Cost estimation and labor estimation.

•An engineer must ensure that the various project elements are effectively coordinated.

•Must ensure that all the work required (and only the required work) is included.

•Engineer must provide an effective project schedule.

The work of a construction project engineer is varied. She reviews the plans and financial projections for the job to be sure that they are accurate and reasonable. She also creates project schedules and works with contractors to assure the work is done properly and on time. The project manager will meet regularly with all of the parties involved, including the contractors and the client, to provide status updates and answer questions. Because she is so involved in all aspects of the project, the engineer spends a lot of time on the construction site.

Quality control is the part of quality management that ensures products and service comply with requirements. It is a system to check and measure the quality of the material which is being used.

Importance of Quality Control:

Quality control  represent increasingly important concerns for project managers. Defects or failures in constructed facilities can result in very large costs. Even with minor defects, re-construction may be required and facility operations impaired. Increased costs and delays are the result. In the worst case, failures may cause personal injuries or fatalities. Accidents during the construction process can similarly result in personal injuries and large costs. Indirect costs of insurance, inspection and regulation are increasing rapidly due to these increased direct costs. Good project managers try to ensure that the job is done right the first time and that no major accidents occur on the project.

Steps for Proper Quality management.

These are some of the steps which can be used for the proper quality management any construction project.

1. Proper Material testing from any recognized lab.

2. Concrete Mix Design Process.

3. Proper Curing of Materials.

4. Timely supervision of the site.

5. Pre Cast Concrete is used for proper quality assurance.

6. Assurance for the proper mixing and curing.

Difference Between conventional construction contract and construction management contract

Both the conventional contract and construction management contract play an important role in the construction projects. Some of the difference between the construction contract and construction management contract are explain below.

 Conventional Construction Contract.

A conventional construction contractor generally deals with the supervision and management of the contract. Construction contractor is limited to the design and specifications given by the architecture  and  manager generally hire sub-contractor and sub ordinate to look after the project. Construction contractor estimate the total cost of the project, integrated of labour, machinery and material, generally take the amount in lump sum form to run the project. Owner is not responsible for over run of the cost estimation and the loss of any kind Construction contractor is responsible for the timely payment for the subcontractors. There is always a risk present in construction contract to perform the work on a limited estimated amount.

 Construction Management Contract.

Construction management contract is between the investor and the builder. This is for use on construction projects. This contract is usually appointed by the client (investor) in the early stage. The relationship between the client and the management contractor usually covers both the work of pre-construction and construction activities.

The management contractor is responsible for all the administrative and operational work of the construction project. The investor is usually comes in the picture to hire the management contractor and then when the building of the project is complete. The entire work in between these two event is done by the management contractor.

This agreement is most beneficial when little guidance or information is available in the initial stage of the project while the project is complicated and complex and management contracts acts as a consultant in the early stage of building.

A projet is a temporary endeavor designed to produce a unique product, service or result with a defined beginning and end undertaken to meet unique goals and objectives, typically to bring about beneficial change or added value. The temporary nature of projects stands in contrast with business as usual  which are repetitive, permanent, or semi-permanent functional activities to produce products or services. In practice, the management of these two systems is often quite different, and as such requires the development of distinct technical skills and management strategies.
