'Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.'- George Bernard Shaw.
Throughout my life I have been told I should take the time to find myself before it is too late and I get lost in a world of wonder and confusion. I have found myself countless times, we all have'.. every time we look in the mirror. However the person we see in the mirror is our physical selves; it is the shell to the meaning of why we were put on this earth and who we really are. This shell is opaque, we cannot see through it in order to find the meaning of who we are and what we stand for. George Bernard Shaw's wise words gives us an understanding of why we can't find ourselves just by looking in the mirror- if it were that easy our lives would be easy, the point is to create yourself. It is nearly 18 years later and I still haven't found myself and I couldn't understand why it was so difficult for me to know what exactly it was I wanted to talk about in my philosophy ' the reason behind this, is that people have been giving me the wrong instruction my whole life! They should have told me: 'take the time to CREATE yourself' not 'FIND' myself. Well now that I finally understand, I'm not going to waste any more of my life following the wrong instruction.
I have been living my life with the basic ingredients that I need in order to create myself. Such ingredients include: my values, my beliefs, my ideology and my goals.
Today I am who I am because of my friends and family. My family are the people in my life who understand me better than I understand myself. It is because of them that I strive to never fail and to never give up. My family are the reason I am proud to be alive and wake up every day feeling safe, loved and protected. My family have taught me the difference between right and wrong. They encourage me to work hard and my brother taught me to always go for the challenging choice rather than the choice that will leave me nothing to learn from. Through my family's teachings I have been able to grow and mature and live in the ways of an independent woman who stands by what she believes in. My friends are the people I am lucky to have found in my journey through life. My friends are the ones who make my life just a little bit crazier. It is with my friends that I can share things that my family wouldn't necessarily understand or care about. When I'm feeling down they are the shoulders I choose to cry on. With my friends I experience adventures of growing up and trying new things. My friends and I go through most of the same things: we go through school together, learn how to drive, become legal together and more and therefore we understand each other. No matter how much my friends and I annoy each other we know it is because we love each other. I will remind myself daily to treasure and honour the friendships in my life and to take time to create lasting memories with each and every one of my friends. I want to be there for my friends when they need me just like they are there for me. I want to continue to do my best in not holding grudges at my friends and getting cross with people for small things. I constantly strive to look out for these people in my life,
to make them love me more than they already do. My friends and family are the last people I want to hurt or disappoint in my life. If I make a mistake I don't want my loved ones to be involved in that mistake in any way. My loved ones are the knot that keeps me from falling apart. And they are the ones that will prevent me from getting lost. My friends and family are the key value ingredient to myself creation.
I aim to work hard- I want to achieve my goals by knowing I did so through hours of hard work, dedication and motivation. Without creativity the world would be a boring place. We are all responsible for adding some colour to this world and before I leave I want to add my sense of creativity by adding joy to the lives of people who can't afford joy in their lives.it is through being responsible, caring, truthful, loyal, respectful, kind, determined, motivated and understanding the idea of team work that I have become the leader that I am today and a leader who wants to share her values with the world.
Bnei Akiva is a big part of who I am, they have given me the ability to improve n my Jewish ways and to constantly take on new things. It is through Bnei that I have formed so many lasting friendships and have connected to inspirational people who have impacted my life. Being a part of Bnei has made me the educated, proud and Zionistic Jew that I am today and my goal is to give back to Bnei as much as I can.
These values are the main ingredient to myself creation.
My belief system is the engine that runs my life. I have grown up to become a proud religious orthodox Jewish woman who believes in Hashem, Zionism, morals and caring for those around me. These are just to mention a few. I know that when I don't see Hashems footsteps besides mine it means he is carrying me. I believe in saving my purity for marriage. I live and believe in the way the torah tells me to because the torah is my guide to life and I know that by following it I will never lose track of where I am going. I also believe that whenever I am in a situation whether it is good or bad I know I am in it because Hashem wants me to be in it. I strongly believe that Hashem has drawn out an accurate plan for me and I look forward to continuing the journey of discovering this mystery plan. Without my beliefs my creation cannot run smoothly and accurately.
My goal is to pass matric knowing I have achieved the results I worked for. I want to meet many inspirational people. I hope to add to my Judaism and knowledge. My main goal is to become a successful occupational therapist and help people get through their suffering.
My ideology will be my creations voice in this world full of judgement and hate. I strongly believe that equality has the right to exist. I for one love other cultures: I enjoy learning about them and what they believe in. I have learnt to respect other cultures and religions as I want respect for my own. It is important to step out of our bubbles and make a bigger bubble that embraces every person from every culture, religion, race, gender and age. I feel passionate about Israel's existence and I hope to go home to it someday soon. I personally
feel that if all society really wants in this world is peace we should stop looking for reasons to judge and hate people and start looking for reasons to love and accept people. Without this ingredient my creation would exist but without an opinion and voice it would have no significance to the matters in the world. The world is full of problems that we as a society have created and it is our responsibility as a whole to fix these problems. I hope that someday my voice will be strong enough to make a difference and to assist in helping to solve these problems.
My creation is now ready to exist in this world. I know who I am and what I stand for and I only hope to never let myself or those around my down.
I guess Abraham Lincoln was right, 'In the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years.'
I will strive to apply this to my life.
