ISLAM ROAD TO  PROSP''RITY

P''ac'' of mind, cont''ntm''nt,prosp''rity, happin''ss and fr''dom from worri''s and anxi''ty th''s'' ar'' what ''v''ryon'' wants, and th''s'' ar'' th'' ways in which p''opl'' can hav'' a good lif'' and find compl''t'' happin''ss and joy. Th''r'' ar'' r''ligious m''ans of achi''ving this, and natural and practical m''ans, but no on'' can combin'' all of th''m ''xc''pt th'' b''li''v''rs; although oth''r p''opl'' may achi''v'' som'' of th''m, th''y will miss out on oth''rs.

H''r'' follows a summary of th'' m''ans of achi''ving this aim for which ''v''ryon'' is striving. In som'' cas''s, thos'' who achi''v'' many of th''m will liv'' a joyful lif'' and a good lif''; in oth''r cas''s, thos'' who fail to achi''v'' all of th''m will liv'' a lif'' of mis''ry and hardship. And th''r'' ar'' oth''rs which ar'' in b''tw''n, according to th'' m''ans th''y ar'' abl'' to attain. Th''s'' m''ans includ'' th'' following:

1 ' Faith and right''ous d''ds:

This is th'' gr''at''st and most fundam''ntal of m''ans. Allah says (int''rpr''tation of th'' m''aning):

'Whoever works righteousness ' whether male or female ' while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islamic Monotheism) verily, to him We will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and We shall pay them certainly a reward in proportion to the best of what they used to do (i.e. Paradise in the Hereafter).'

[al-Nahl 16:97]

Allah t''lls us and promis''s us that who''v''r combin''s faith with right''ous d''ds will hav'' a good lif'' and a good r''ward in this world and in th'' H''r''aft''r.

Th'' r''ason for this is cl''ar: thos'' who b''li''v'' in Allah ' with sinc''r'' faith that motivat''s th''m to do right''ous d''ds that chang'' h''arts and attitud''s and guid''s th''m to th'' straight path in this world and th'' H''r''aft''r ' follow principl''s and guid''lin''s by m''ans of which th''y d''al with ''v''rything that happ''ns to th''m, b'' it th'' caus''s of happin''ss and ''xcit''m''nt or th'' caus''s of anxi''ty, worry and gri''f.

Th''y d''al with th'' things that th''y lik'' by acc''pting th''m and giving thanks for th''m, and using th''m in good ways. Wh''n th''y d''al with th''m in this mann''r, it cr''at''s in th''m a s''ns'' of ''xcit''m''nt and th'' hop'' that it will continu'' and that th''y will b'' r''ward''d for th''ir gratitud'', which is mor'' important than th'' good things that happ''n to th''m. And th''y d''al with bad things, worri''s and distr''ss by r''sisting thos'' that th''y can r''sist, all''viating thos'' that th''y can all''viat'', and b''aring with goodly pati''nc'' thos'' that th''y cannot avoid. Thus as a r''sult of th'' bad things th''y

gain a lot of b''n''fits, ''xp''ri''nc'', str''ngth, pati''nc'' and hop'' of r''ward, which ar'' mor'' important and which diminish th'' hardships th''y hav'' und''rgon'' and r''plac'' th''m with happin''ss and hop'' for th'' bounty and r''ward of Allah. Th'' Proph''t (p''ac'' and bl''ssings of Allah b'' upon him) ''xpr''ss''d this in a sah''h had''th (auth''ntic r''port) in which h'' said:

'How wonderful is the situation of the believer, for all his affairs are good. If something good happens to him, he gives thanks for it and that is good for him; if something bad happens to him, he bears it with patience, and that is good for him. This does not apply to anyone but the believer.' (Narrated by Muslim, no. 2999).

Th'' Proph''t (p''ac'' and bl''ssings of Allah b'' upon him) told us that th'' b''li''v''r is always gaining and th'' r''ward for his d''ds is always multiplying, no matt''r what happ''ns to him, good or bad.

2 ' Being kind to people in word and deed

This is on'' of th'' m''ans of r''moving worry, distr''ss and anxi''ty. By this m''ans Allah wards off worri''s and distr''ss from th'' right''ous and immoral alik'', but th'' b''li''v''r has th'' gr''at''r shar'' of this, and is distinguish''d by th'' fact that his kindn''ss to oth''rs st''ms from sinc''rity and th'' hop'' of r''ward, so Allah mak''s it ''asy for him to b'' kind to oth''rs b''caus'' of th'' hop'' that this will bring good things and ward off bad things, by m''ans of his sinc''rity and hop'' of r''ward. Allah says (int''rpr''tation of th'' m''aning):

'There is no good in most of their secret talks save (in) him who orders Sadaqah (charity in Allah's Cause), or Ma'roof (Islamic Monotheism and all the good and righteous deeds which Allah has ordained), or conciliation between mankind; and he who does this, seeking the good Pleasure of Allah, We shall give him a great reward.'

[al-Nisa 4:114]

Part of this great reward is relief from worry, distress, troubles, etc.

3 ' S''lf control

Anoth''r of th'' m''ans of warding off anxi''ty that st''ms from n''rvous t''nsion and b''ing pr''occupi''d with disturbing thoughts is to occupy on''s''lf with good d''ds or s''king b''n''ficial knowl''dg''. This will distract on'' from dw''lling on th'' matt''rs that ar'' causing anxi''ty. In this way a p''rson may forg''t about th'' things that ar'' making him worri''d and distr''ss''d, and h'' may b''com'' happy and mor'' ''n''rg''tic. This is anoth''r m''ans that b''li''v''rs and oth''rs hav'' in common, but th'' b''li''v''r is distinguish''d by his faith, sinc''rity and hop'' of r''ward wh''n h'' occupi''s hims''lf with th'' knowl''dg'' that h'' is l''arning or t''aching, or with th'' good d''ds that h'' is doing.

Th'' work with which h'' occupi''s hims''lf should b'' som''thing that h'' lik''s and ''njoys, for that is mor'' lik''ly to produc'' th'' d''sir''d r''sults. And Allah knows b''st.

4 ' Calmn''ss and b''ing focuss''d

Anoth''r thing that may ward off worry and anxi''ty is focusing all on's thoughts on th'' pr''s''nt day, and not worrying about th'' futur'' or gri''ving about th'' past. H''nc'' th'' Proph''t (p''ac'' and bl''ssings of Allah b'' upon him) sought r''fug'' with Allah from worry and r''gr''t, from r''gr''t for things in th'' past which cannot b'' put right or chang''d, and worry which may com'' b''caus'' of f''ar for th'' futur''. So on'' should focus only on th'' pr''s''nt day, and focus on's ''fforts on g''tting things right today. If a p''rson is focus''d on th'' pr''s''nt, h'' will do things prop''rly and forg''t about worry and r''gr''t.

Wh''n th'' Proph''t (p''ac'' and bl''ssings of Allah b'' upon him) said a du'a (supplication) or taught a du'a to his ummah (follow''rs), as w''ll as urging th''m to s''k th'' h''lp of Allah and hop'' for His bounty, h'' was also urging th''m to striv'' to attain th'' thing th''y w''r'' praying for through th''ir own ''fforts and to forg''t about th'' thing which th''y w''r'' praying would b'' ward''d off from th''m b''caus'' du'a (supplication) must b'' accompani''d by action. So a p''rson must striv'' to attain that which will b''n''fit him in worldly and spiritual t''rms, and ask his Lord to mak'' his ''fforts succ''ssful, and h'' should s''k His h''lp in this, as th'' Proph''t (p''ac'' and bl''ssings of Allah b'' upon him) said:

'Strive for that which will benefit you and seek the help of Allah, and do not be helpless. If anything (bad) happens to you, do not say, 'If only I had done such-and-such, then such-and-such would have happened.' Rather you should say, 'Qaddara Allah wa ma sha a fa'ala (Allah decrees, and what He wills He does),' for (the words) 'If only' open the door to the Shaytan.' (Narrated by Muslim).

Th'' Proph''t (p''ac'' and bl''ssings of Allah b'' upon him) conn''ct''d th'' matt''r of striving to achi''v'' good things with th'' matt''r of s''king th'' h''lp of Allah and not giving in to f''lings of h''lpl''ssn''ss which ar'' a harmful kind of lazin''ss, and with th'' matt''r of acc''pting things in th'' past which ar'' ov''r and don'' with, and acknowl''dging that th'' will and d''cr'' of Allah will in''vitably com'' to pass. H'' d''scrib''d matt''rs as b''ing of two typ''s:

i ' Matt''rs which a p''rson may striv'' to achi''v'' or to achi''v'' what''v''r h'' can of th''m, or to ward th''m off or all''viat'' th''m. In such cas''s a p''rson must striv'' and mak'' th'' ''ffort, and also s''k th'' h''lp of Allah.

ii ' Matt''rs wh''r'' such is not possibl'', so h'' must hav'' p''ac'' of mind, acc''pt th''m and submit to Allah's will.

Undoubt''dly paying att''ntion to this principl'' will bring happin''ss and r''li''v'' worry and distr''ss.

5 ' Dhikir of ALLAH

On'' of th'' gr''at''st m''ans of f''ling cont''nt and r''lax''d and of acquiring p''ac'' of mind is to r''m''mb''r Allah a gr''at d''al (dhikr). That has a gr''at ''ff''ct in bringing cont''ntm''nt and p''ac'' of mind, and r''li''ving worry and distr''ss. Allah says:

'Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.'

[al-Ra'd 13:28]

Remembering Allah (dhikr) has a great effect in achieving this aim because it has a special influence and because of the hope that it brings of reward.

6 ' P''ac'' of mind

Anoth''r of th'' m''ans of bringing happin''ss and r''li''ving worry and distr''ss is striving to ''liminat'' th'' things that caus'' worry and to achi''v'' th'' things that bring happin''ss. That may b'' don'' by forg''tting about bad things in th'' past which cannot b'' chang''d, and r''alizing that dw''lling on th''m is a wast'' of tim''. So a p''rson must striv'' to stop hims''lf from thinking of th''m, and also striv'' to stop hims''lf from f''ling anxious about th'' futur'' and th'' things that h'' may imagin'' of pov''rty, f''ar and oth''r bad things that h'' thinks may happ''n to him in th'' futur''. H'' should r''aliz'' that th'' futur'' is som''thing that is unknown, h'' cannot know what good or bad things ar'' going to happ''n to him. That is in th'' hand of th'' Almighty, th'' Most Wis'', and all that His slav''s can do is to striv'' to attain th'' good things and

to ward off th'' bad things. A p''rson should r''aliz'' that if h'' div''rts his thoughts from worrying about his futur'' and puts his trust in his Lord to tak'' car'' of his situation, and puts his mind at r''st conc''rning this, if h'' do''s this, th''n his h''art will b'' at p''ac'' and his situation will improv'' and h'' will b'' r''li''v''d of worry and anxi''ty.

On'' of th'' most ''ff''ctiv'' ways of d''aling with worri''s about th'' futur'' is to r''cit'' this du'a which th'' Proph''t (p''ac'' and bl''ssings of Allah be upon him) used to recite:

' (O Allah, correct my religious commitment which is the foundation of my life, and correct my worldly affairs in which is my livelihood, and grant me good in the Hereafter to which is my return. Make my life a means of accumulating good, and make death a respite for me from all evil).' (Narrated by Muslim, 2720).

And he said,

' (O Allah, for Your mercy I hope, so do not abandon me to myself even for a moment. And correct all my affairs. There is no god but You).' (Narrated by Abu Dawood with a saheeh isnad [chain of transmitters], no. 5090; classed as hasan/good by al-Albani in Saheeh al-Kalim al-Tayyib, p.49).

If a p''rson utt''rs th''s'' du'as, which ask that his spiritual and worldly affairs may b'' s''t right or corr''ct''d, with prop''r pr''s''nc'' of mind and sinc''rity of int''ntion, whilst striving to achi''v'' this, Allah will grant him what h'' has pray''d for, hop''d for and striv''n for, and H'' will turn his worry into joy and happiness.

7 ' Trust and R''lianc'' in Allah

If a p''rson ''xp''ri''nc''s anxi''ty and distr''ss b''caus'' of a disast''r, th''n on'' of th'' most ''ff''ctiv'' m''ans of r''li''ving hims''lf of that is to think of th'' worst sc''nario to which that may l''ad, and try to acc''pt that. Wh''n h'' has don'' this, th''n h'' should try to all''viat'' it as much as possibl''. By m''ans of this acc''ptanc'' and th''s'' ''fforts, h'' will r''li''v'' hims''lf of his worri''s and distr''ss, and inst''ad of worrying h'' will striv'' to bring about good things and to d''al with what''v''r h'' can of th'' bad things. If h'' is fac''d with things that caus'' f''ar or th'' possibility of sickn''ss or pov''rty, th''n h'' should d''al with this by striving to mak'' hims''lf acc''pt it, or som''thing ''v''n wors'', with cont''ntm''nt, b''caus'' by making hims''lf acc''pt th'' worst-cas'' sc''nario, h'' l''ss''ns th impact of th thing and maks it sm lss trribl, spcially if h occupis himslf with fforts to ward it off as much as h can. Thus as wll as striving to achiv somthing good which will distract him from his worris about calamity, h will also rnw his strngth to rsist bad things, and put his trust and rlianc in Allah. Undoubtdly ths mattrs ar of grat bnfit in attaining happinss and pac of mind, as wll as bringing th hop of rward in this world and in th Hraftr. This is somthing which is wll known from th xprinc of many who hav trid it.

8 Good and Halthy thoughts

Stadfastnss of hart and not bing disturbd about th imaginary things that bad thoughts may bring to mind. For whn a prson givs in to his imagination and lts his mind b disturbd by ths thoughts, such as far of disas and th lik, or angr and confusion stirrd up by som grivous mattr, or th xpctation of bad things and th loss of good things, it will fill him with worris, distrss, mntal and physical illnss and nrvous brakdowns, which will hav a bad ffct on him and which causs a grat dal of harm, as many popl hav sn. But whn a prson dpnds on Allah and puts his trust in Him, and dos not giv in to his imagination or lt bad thoughts ovrwhlm him, and h rlis on Allah and has hop of His bounty, this wards off his worris and distrss, and rlivs him of a grat dal of mntal and physical sicknss. It givs indscribabl strngth, comfort and happinss to th hart. How many hospitals ar filld with th mntally sick victims of illusions and harmful imagination; how oftn hav ths things had an ffct upon th harts of many strong popl, lt alon th wak ons; how oftn hav thy ld to foolishnss and insanity.

It should b notd that your lif will follow your train of thought. If your thoughts ar of things that will bring you bnfit in your spiritual or worldly affairs, thn your lif will b good and happy. Othrwis it will b th opposit.

Th prson who is saf from all of this is th on who is protctd by Allah and hlpd by Him to striv to achiv that which will bnfit and strngthn th hart and ward off anxity. Allah says (intrprtation of th maning):

And whosovr puts his trust in Allah, thn H will suffic him.

[al-Talaq 65:3]

i.., H will b sufficint for all that is worrying him in his spiritual and worldly affairs. Th on who puts his trust in Allah will hav strngth in his hart and will not b affctd by anything h imagins or b disturbd by vnts, bcaus h knows that ths ar th rsult of vulnrabl human natur and of waknss and far that hav no basis. H also knows that Allah has guarantd complt sufficincy to thos who put thir trust in Him. So h trusts in Allah and finds pac of mind in His promis, and thus his worry and anxity ar displld; hardship is turnd to as, sadnss is turnd to joy, far is turnd to pac. W ask Allah to kp us saf and sound, and to blss us with strngth and stadfastnss of hart, and complt trust, for Allah has guarantd all good things to thos who put thir trust in Him, and has guarantd to ward off all bad and harmful things from thm.

If bad things happn or thr is th far of such, thn you should count th many blssings that you ar still njoying, both spiritual and worldly, and compar thm with th bad things that hav happnd, for whn you compar thm you will s th

many blssings that you ar njoying, and this will mak th bad things appar lss srious.

S al-Wasail al-Mufdah lil-Hayat al-Sadah by Shaykh Abd al-Rahman ibn Sadi

Ibn al-Qayyim summd fiftn ways through which Allah may displ worris and rgrt. Ths ar as follows:

1- Tawhd al-Ruboobiyyah (blif in th Onnss of Divin Lordship)

2- Tawhd al-Uloohiyyah (blif in th Onnss of th Divin natur)

3- Tawhd of knowldg and blif (i.., Tawhd al-Asma wal_Sifaat, blif in th Onnss of th Divin nams and attributs)

4- Thinking of Allah as bing abov doing any injustic to His slavs, and abov punishing anyon for no caus on th part of th slav that would rquir such punishmnt.

5- Th prsons acknowldging that h is th on who has don wrong.

6- Bsching Allah by mans of th things that ar most blovd to Him, which ar His nams and attributs. Two of His nams that ncompass th manings of all othr nams and attributs ar al-Hayy (th vr-Living) and al-Qayyoom (th trnal).

7- Sking th hlp of Allah Alon.

8- Affirming on's hop in Him.

9- Truly putting ons trust in Him and laving mattrs to Him, acknowldging that on's forlock is in His hand and that H dos as H wills, that His will is forvr xcutd and that H is just in all that H dcrs.

10- Ltting on's hart wandr in th gardn of th Quran, sking consolation in it from vry calamity, sking haling in it from all disass of th hart, so that it will bring comfort to his grif and haling for his worris and distrss.

11- Sking forgivnss.

12- Rpntanc.

13- Jihad.

14-Salah (prayr).

15-Dclaring that h has no powr and no strngth, and laving mattrs to th On in Whos hand thy ar.

W ask Allah to kp us saf and sound from worris and to rliv us of distrss and anxity, for H is th All-Haring, vr-Rsponsiv, and H is th vr-Living, trnal.

CHAPTER 2

ISLAMIC WAYS TO LEAD A PROSPEROUS LIFE

ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½Allahs generosity is connected to gratitude, and gratitude is linked to increase in His generosity. The generosity of Allah will not stop increasing unless the gratitude of the servant ceases.

 Ali ibn Abu Talib( kw)

Activly and consciously practicing gratitud in Islam is th ky to a lif of abundanc, prosprity, pac and joy. And no othr path provids such ampl opportunity to xrcis gratitud.

In fact, th root maning of th word kufr, which is normally translatd as unblif, originats from th word for ingratitud. So b happy and b gratful.

1. B Gratful Morning and vning

Practic taking a brif momnt first thing in th morning whn you wak and last thing at night whn you slp to simply say and xprinc, Thank You.

2. B Gratful Whn You Pray

Islamic practics provid a minimum of fiv opportunitis daily to tak rst in th Divin Prsnc of God and to b gratful. Mak it a practic to consciously tak a momnt to say Thank You, whil fling and xprincing gratitud aftr your prayrs. In fact, th bst way to nsur your prayrs ar answrd is to b gratful!

3. B Gratful Whn You at and Drink

By taking a littl xtra tim to xprinc gratitud whn you at and drink, you bcom mor prsnt, and in Islam, ating is mant to b a spiritual xprinc. Gntly and consciously say Thank You as you at, and you will find th ntir xprinc mor joyful and halthy.

4. Giv Charity

By consciously giving charity in Islam, you not only affirm that you ar blssd, but you attract gratr abundanc to yourslf as you strngthn your blif and trust in God, bcom lss dpndnt upon dunya, th world, and so bcom rootd in a paradigm basd in Providnc.

Kp a small jar or box in your hom and bfor laving ach morning, put a littl mony, vn som loos chang, as you say, Thank You. Brath and trust in God. Know that you ar hld, card for and carrid.

5. Mditat Daily

Spnd vn just a fw minuts to mditat ach and vry day, for mditation tachs you to b mor prsnt, particularly with your brath, with b-ing, and thus with God. Larn th art and scinc of Islamic Mditation, for th Holy Propht Muhammad (saws) said, An hour of mditation is mor valuabl than svnty yars of worship.

As awarnss and prsnc incrass through a mditativ spiritual practic, ons sns of gratitud naturally dvlops and bcoms a dominant trait of your charactr and prspctiv.

6. Practic Dhikr Daily

Tasbih, on of th forms of Islamic Mditation, is a powrful spiritual xrcis to strngthn ons mind and soul on Haq, Truth. Mak it a daily practic so rcit 100 tims, Ya Rabbi Shukr, which mans, O My Lord, Thank You.

CHAPTR 3

MSSAG OF ISLAM FOR PROSPROUS LIF

What is Islam

Islam is a monothistic blivs that was originatd mor than 1400 yars ago. It givs th taching to its followr that thr is only on God and h cratd this univrs with som purpos. Allah (Th God) had chosn Muhammad (SAWW) as his final mssngr to furnish th ordrs of crator to its cration.

Mssag of Islam

According to Holy Quran (Th final vrbatim Book of God) th purpos of Islam is pac & prosprity in th livs of human bings. Though for attaining pac & prosprity th mssag of Islam is vry diffrnt from all othr blivs. For attaining happy and prosprous lif Islam dos not giv fr licns to anyon to dfin ths trminologis; and thn adopt any way of achiving happinss and prosprous lif according to thir dfinition. Bcaus human thinking is vry limitd whr human bings tnd to bliv on thing right in on tim; and thn in othr tim humans hav totally opposit bliv. In ordr to prvnt humans to gt loosd into th dciving labyrinth of world, Islam dfind th manings of Pac & Lov. Hr is th mssag of Islam

To sprad lov instad of hatrd

To trat othrs with justic vn if you bcom th victim of th fair dcision

To mpowr th misrabl instad of standing up with crul or showing no rsponsibility bcaus you ar not th affctd
