Cyberbullying is becoming more serious recently, instead of face to face bullying people tend to bully others by not using face to face that also known as “cyber harrassment” , but it is through the social network contact. “ From psychology perspective, cyberbullying causes a lot of metal problems; or from the world, cyber bullying lead to many mental and mood disorders.” Yeoh Jia Ying, Psychology Student, Western Michigan State University. It does not matter the person who bullying people or the person who get bullied. As a victim” For me i think cyberbullying is a very irresponsible and childish act, cyberbullying it is a way for bullies to bully people without actually showing their identity and showing that they’re brave but they are not.” Ika Yunus, victim, Western Michigan State University. Perhaps some of them doesn't even know they are cyberbullying, they might just feel that this is their right to express their feelings or hatred towards someone.
The case of Cyber bullying had been existing since long time ago, and it had
significant growth after introducing of social network. Cyber bullying including gossiping, lies, spread rumours, threats, teasing and insult other people. Cases of stereotyping have been seen on social network also. People like to comment about those news or we can call it rumours that had not been verified. People like to apply cyber bully to other people, might be cause by their “sense of justice”. “ The main motives for bullying are anger, frustrations and hate. Although in some cases the bully find entertainment in bullying because of boredom since, most of us will always enjoy seeing somebody complaint about someone/something.” Lim Khye Cjen, people who always like to bully others, Taylors’ University. Stereotype happened when someone is out of the trend or they are acting differently from the social norm. I can conclude that stereotype and ignorance lead to cyberbullying. People
who lack of sympathy and empathy also have the higher chance to apply cyber bully on
other people. In psychology term, we called it prejudice, people tend to apply tags to whom they seem like a perpetrator, but they did not really participate in the event. “In many cases
we can see, people commented below those rumours that had not been verify, they thought they voiced out to seek for justice for those victims, but the fact is some news that posted
on social media might not be the true, in the other sense that, those victims might not be
the “real victim”.” Yeoh Jia Ying, Psychology Student, Western Michigan State University.
To prevent cyber bullying, at first, we must stop being stereotyped and ignorance. Cyber bully can be view as the discrimination action. Campaign that related anti-cyberbully can be a solution to stop cyber bully. Education also an important way to prevent cyber bully. Both education institution and family member should advocate anti-racism and anti-cyberbully. Sympathies and empathies should be learning by every person. As a victim perspective “I think the best way to stop cyber bullying is by ignoring them. I found that the more you react, the more pleasant they are to continue cyberbullying.” Tan Tze Young, Victim, Monash University. Another victim, Ika Yunus, Western Michigan University, “it used to be physical bullying but now cyberbullying has increased profusely as they don’t actually have to do the bullying and let their fingers do it”. As we know that cyber bullying is increasing, pace of technology is getting faster and faster. There is a huge increase in access of internet in the past 10 years compared to in the 90's. From some research data, cases of cyber bullying had significant increase nowadays
due to the prevailing of social network. It had become easier way to apply cyber bully to other people. The feeling of hopelessness and helplessness increased the chance to get mood disorder such as depression. According to cognitive theory, major depressive disorders are caused by learned hopelessness. “ When i first got into cyber bullying, i feel upset and keep asking myself about what I did wrong, what can I do in order to please everyone? But eventually i just realised and started to understand that it is impossible for someone to please everyone. Just be yourself, and those who love you and care about you will always be there. “ Tan Tze Young, Victim, Monash University.
In conclusion, we should be more sympathy and empathy to other people and we should pay more attention to the person who bullies instead of the one being bullied. Stop being racist and stop ignorance. Ignorance can be lead to cyber bully, because they virtually did cyber harassment to other people, but themselves did not realise. Perhaps, government should come out with some relevant law regarding these actions in the virtual world, not only to overcome cyber bullying, but for every users of the internet. Interview said by Lim Khye Cjen, people who always bully others, Taylors’ University “Just by living, people hurt others without realizing it. As long as humanity exists hate will also exist. Hate draws people to seek justice through revenge. But if there is justice in revenge that would only breed more revenge and trigger a cycle of hatred.”
